No Mimic Mutts Today

Sadly, I had to postpone my quest to make the mimic mutts because I ran out of vital wheat gluten. The grocery store I went to didn’t carry it. That is what I get for shopping alternately between four different stores. I forget what each one of them carries. But I DID get the ingredients to make this lovely wheat berry and barley salad. This is a picture from when I’ve made it once before and didn’t add the tomatoes or mozzarella because I didn’t have them on hand. The salad was still delicious but this time I do have those ingredients so I may have to upload another picture of it. Anyway, I recommend cutting the recipe in half unless you are taking it to a party because it makes a lot and you may get addicted to it like my mother and I did. I couldn’t stop eating it and she had to go out and buy the ingredients to make it after she had tried a little bit that I had made. wheat berry barley salad

In other news, those of you who have submitted comments to my blog and didn’t see them posted online right away - that is because I have been checking them first before posting. The blog site allows me to do that and I wanted to take advantage of that to make sure nothing got posted that I thought was too personal or offensive. You never know. But so far I’ve had nothing but positive responses so I hope to have that feature automated soon.

For those of you interested, the picture in the above right shows a sesame tahini and grape Polaner All Fruit sandwich on homemade wheat bread with my old standby cup of green tea. I like to make my own bread because then I know what is in it and that it doesn’t contain soy. Anyway, it was the first time I had tahini that way and it was pretty good. A lot like peanut butter but messier. :)
One other thing, these Wild Violets are growing like crazy in my yard. I know some consider them to be weeds and they are pretty invasive, but they are also beautiful and I found that they are edible so they at least have a good use. I’ll have to try putting them in something sometime and I’ll update my posts on how that goes. Have a great day!
