Teeni’s Tips

I’ve been thinking a lot about all my nieces and nephews. I have eight (so far). A sister-in-law just got married so maybe there are more in my future. I also have a great-niece and a great-nephew. So…I was thinking it would be nice to compile a bunch of handy life hints for them because life is short and there is no reason for them to have to waste their time repeating some of the mistakes I or other adults have made. They should be able to benefit from our collective and earned wisdoms. So I’m gonna tag these things “Teeni’s Tips,” and I’ll just add to them on this blog whenever they occur to me.
The first one I can think of and I’ve already passed on to Niece #1 is a kitchen hint. Here it is:
Whenever you need to chop up onions for a recipe, chop more than you need and refrigerate the rest in a small container. Later in the week when you need chopped onions, just reach into the fridge and some of your work is already done for you! Voila! You benefit from the work more than once but only have to wash the cutting board and knife once. Obviously this can be applied to any frequently used produce.
Here’s another onion one:
Buy more onions when they are on sale and if you don’t think you’ll use them all by the end of the week, just chop them up and freeze them. The next time you need them, the work is done for you! Onions freeze well and can quickly be fried up from frozen when you need them.
