Yogurt Maker

I have this yogurt maker from Donvier which has worked out rather well for me. In this picture, it is making cashew yogurt (Cathe Olson’s recipe - she’s the author of Simply Natural Baby Food). The recipe is here. It looked so simple that I HAD to try it. Only two ingredients? C’mon - even I couldn’t mess this one up!
This was my end result and surprisingly to me, it was pretty good. I didn’t really know what to expect it to taste like but it had a mild sweetness of its own plus a little yogurt-y tartness. Then I tried it with a teensy bit of honey - they tasted good together. I will make it again - I think it will go great with fruit.

Interesting! Could you do it with soy yogurt or something like it???
I’m not sure of the specifics of making soy yogurt, but if it is similar to dairy yogurt then this little machine works nicely because it keeps the yogurt in the proper temperature range for those good little bacteria.
How cool! Neato for you. I’ve heard of people making yogurt just by leaving the mixture out on a heater. I don’t think I’d ever be brave enought to do it that way, but hey.
I’m with you, Blaqberry - I would be too afraid to leave it out on a heater or something. I’d be afraid the wrong kind of bacteria might somehow get in there. I’m sure it is just doing the same thing, but putting it in an electrical appliance that is specifically made for making yogurt seems somehow safer to me. It’s probably all just psychological but you gotta feel good about it if you’re gonna eat it, right?
hahaha… “psychological” Ah, maybe!!…but, still!
