Tea at the Inn

My two tea girlfriends and I got together again for tea at an Inn near where my friend, S, lives. It was so funny.
I don’t know if the woman who waited on us ever served tea before or what, but it was a “proper attire required” (read “snobby”) establishment so I suppose we just expected better. When the condensation from my red iced tea glass got on the white tablecloth, she commented on it, joking that they wouldn’t charge me for it. Later, she made a comment about having worked since 6:00 a.m. (our reservations had us there at 1:30 p.m. and they are supposed to serve tea until 4:00). Maybe letting us know she was up early was her way of excusing the bad service. I don’t know. She then informed us that it took a while to make the sandwiches so she served us cookies first. With the wrong silverware. Then she brought us cakes. When B ordered some more tea, the server wanted to take away her first pot, but B wasn’t done with it yet and told her to leave it. She came back when we weren’t paying attention and took it anyway. When the sandwiches came out we got the dessert silverware to go with it. Finally, we got scones, but B got one raisin and one plain instead of the two raisin she asked for.
It was a beautiful place and the food was delicious, and we three had a great time anyway, as we usually do. But I would think if they were worried about their tablecloths they wouldn’t serve red teas. It was tacky for the server to mention a small spill since it’s not her property, nor was it even her job to change the table linens as we saw someone else doing that while we were there. It was also tacky of her to mention how early she began her shift, and to serve tea in that strange order of sweets first and with the silverware all messed up. It was almost as though she were trying to rush us out of there and that is why she served things in that order, even though she insisted we should take our time. Again, our reservations were at 1:30 and their hours said they served tea until 4:00 which is not unusual. It is not the customers fault if she started at 6:00. It seems they need to hire more staff there.
We have had just as delicious a tea for a lot less money and much better service in other places. But the important thing is that B, S, and I had a fun time and spent the rest of the afternoon into the early evening at S’s house. There just never is enough time when we get together.

Ah… Sorry to hear about the service you all received (or rather didn’t), but very glad to know everyone enjoyed themselves regardless. The red iced tea looks beautiful! And with a lime wedge, I see. [wink]
Yeah, we really do enjoy getting together. The tea experience is usually just a good excuse to get together. The red iced tea was pretty good. Normally I wouldn’t have ordered iced tea but it was very hot that day. And to be totally honest, I’m really there just for the little goodies that come with the tea. I love those little sandwiches and scones and stuff.
It’s nice that you all do that, get together and hang. The goodies are like the cherry on top!
