Tamale Pie

I made this from the Moosewood Restaurant’s Low Fat Favorites Cookbook. The first pic just show the filling, the second is the filling with the cornbread batter on top and the third pic shows the finished tamale pie fresh from the oven. It was delicious and I’ll be making it again and again.

I have that cookbook…I will have to look for the recipe…looks very good!
This looks so interesting! We don’t have cornbread here but I wish we did so I could try this!
Hannah - do you have corn meal available there at all? This crust kind of makes itself from that.
Snapdragons - It may be a regional specialty but now that I think of it I never heard about it while I was growing up either! It may be the Latin American influence spreading across the country. All I know is this tastes darned good so I’m glad it did!
that looks incredibly delicious.
Ah but where is the recipe? I have a couple of recipes for Tamale Pie but am always on the lookout for new ones.
We live about an hour from the Moosewood Restaurant and I wonder if they serve it there? We’ve never been yet but maybe one of these days. There’s another restaurant in Ithaca we love to visit so we usually go there instead.
Peace, love and good food for the soul.

Hi Ms. Shooz! I didn’t want to post the recipe here since it is Moosewood’s and not mine. I want to be a good blogger and not break any copyright laws! If it were my recipe or even my version of a recipe then I would most certainly have shared it with you here!
Oh, I don’t know if they serve the Tamale Pie at their restaurant. That’s a good question. I ate there once but I think I got some kind of pizza for dinner there that time. Then I found their cookbook at Barnes & Noble later that year. I wonder what restaurant you go to in Ithaca - if I’m out that way again, I’d be willing to give it a try.
