Our Kitchen - During
Posted on July 31, 2007 - Filed Under DIY or D-I-Y, Home Improvement
Okay, you saw the before pictures. These are the “during” pictures because we haven’t really completed the project yet. TGH has been doing almost all the work himself from building the cabinets from scratch to insulating walls and everything. We did contract out for the plumbing and electrical but TGH has done everything else except for the little bit of painting that I did. This is what you have to do when you are not rich. But we are rich in other ways so…;) Okay, enough about that - here’s the pictures. I will try to place them in the same order as the “before” but there are not as many pics at this stage.
I love my new fridge. Notice that the stove is not to the left of it anymore. The stove has been moved across from it where it now resides against an outside wall so we could actually use a vent to vent out any steam or odors. Woo-hoo. There is also a new dishwasher which wasn’t there before. Man I hated washing dishes by hand all those years. There is a new garden window over the sink where a normal window used to be. We found a great beam hidden inside the trim and TGH brushed it all up with a wire brush so it looks awesome now. That window to the porch is now replaced with a 15-lite door and the solid door that led to the basement and the original door to the porch was replaced with this “Wine Cellar” door. My joke is that the door is half-true. It does lead to the cellar but sadly there is no wine down there. LOL. So you can see that the cabinets will be painted white and we went with a beadboard ceiling that TGH pickled for me and did the same effect on the back of the new island of cabinets. I will post more slightly updated pics in the next day or so.

Your fridge is beautiful and shiny! I really like the beadboard ceiling and that big beam! The white is lovely and fresh. You are so loving your kitchen I can tell! And aaahh, a dishwasher!! I wash our dishes by hand, and sometimes wish… Anyway. It’s great and I’m so happy to see during pics! It will be great for you to look at when it’s all finished and remember the process!
LOVE the doors…so many doors!
I replied to your comment on my blog!
(sits waiting for “finished” pictures)
It looks amazing!!! Wow!! Your hubby is very clever indeed! I know what it is like to live with a DIY-er as my hubby is the same and refuses to pay other people to do things that he is able to do himself.
How have you survived without a dishwasher for so long?! Having said that, I only got mine 2 years ago when we renovated our kitchen, and didn’t have a pantry until 3 years ago either!
LOL. Snapdragons - don’t hold your breath! I have a couple more pics that were taken since that show our finished floor, the countertops, and some of the cabinet doors but that is as far as we’ve gotten. I’ll try and post those pics tomorrow. Believe me, nobody wants it “finished” more than I do!!!
Hannah - sounds like you know what TGH and I have been going through. But I’m jealous - I still don’t have a pantry. No room for one in this house (we store extra canned goods in the basement).
I love the fridge also then again I love stainless steel the majority of my kitchen appliances are stainless steel.
Congrats on the dishwasher!
i think it’s looking quite nice! i can’t wait to see the after photos.

I bet that you will want to be in there ALL the time, just admiring and enjoying..lol.
Funny, we didn’t have a dishwasher before; they are awesome!!!
I can’t believe all the years I spent doing dishes by hand either!
Great fridge too!
Aren’t we lucky to have handymen hubbies!
Can’t wait for the after photos either!
Ahh, amazing progress. I thought the countertop was cool as well. Love the look of steel! How wonderful it’s going to be once all completed. You’ll be spinning round like “the sound of music” marveling at everything, lol.
