She was something else! Did you see the movie The Bad Seed? That is my all time favorite.
Oh yeah - The Bad Seed was freaky. It was the first horror movie I saw (I saw the original) where the bad guy was a child and it definitely left an impression on me. Maybe THAT’s why I have no kids! LOL
I think I know what movie you’re referring to I think it was called another name?
The Bad Seed was made in 1956 and starred Carrie Wells she played Rhoda Penmark they changed the ending because they felt it was too horrible for viewers to see. In the original ending she killed everyone but that wasn’t publicized. If you get the chance watch it. I love AMC.
I saw that movie, for the first time, about eight years ago.
The Burning Man was a short film (less than twenty minutes) that aired on The Twilight Zone. Danny Cooksey (Different Strokes redhead) played the boy. That was another good movie. I only saw it once. I was in college at the time and watched it on a tiny 4″ television but I remembered that it was excellent.
I just did some research to make sure I got it right (Wikipedia had some good info and a picture so I could be sure) - The Bad Seed in 1956 had Patty McCormack as Rhoda and then it was remade in 1985 with Carrie Wells in the Rhoda part (but in this later version she is “Rachel”). I just read up on the different endings. It is so interesting how back then the Hayes Code did not allow for crime to pay so they had to change the film version. In the novel and the play, the mother dies and the child survives but in the film (1956) Rhoda gets hit by lightning and the mother survives. This way they aren’t teaching the lesson that crime pays. I just remember when I originally saw it, it was being rerun on television (cuz even I wasn’t around in 1956 - LOL) in black and white and the little girl was cute in her blonde braids. I was horrified when I realized she had used her shoes to kick the little boy in the head and caused him to drown. Then, for some sick reason, I always liked horror films. LOL.
I never saw The Burning Man - I’ll have to check that out somehow. I loved that little redheaded kid! He looks just like my cousin when he was a kid (well, except for the red hair). LOL
Yes that’s the one I saw. I got the girl’s names mixed up. I heard they had a newer one out, but I didn’t want to see it. I thought It would spoil the movie for me. I think the only way you’ll see The Burning Man now is if you buy that DVD that’s what I will have to do, lol.
When you said bad guy was made into a kid I was thinking you were referring to a boy. There is a movie that feature a boy who did some downright nasty things. I think that one was on The Twilight Zone the old black & white. That’s the one I thought you were talking about initially, lol.
Postcards from the Zone had an excellent writeup about it http://postcardsfromthezone.blogspot.com/2005/12/119-burning-man.html I stumbled upon this review a few months ago. I’ll be purchasing that DVD.
Oh, man. Sorry, Opal. I guess I use the term “bad guys” to refer to both sexes. Sorry for the confusion. I wonder if the Twilight Zone episode you are thinking of is the one you made ME think of - it had Billy Mummy in it (the little boy who used to be on Lost in Space) and he would send people into the “cornfield” if they didn’t do what he wanted and there was something about a giant jack-in-the-box. Oooh, that one was freaky - I found a link on Amazon that had a good review here
