Board Games
Posted on August 20, 2007 - Filed Under Board Games

Here are some of my board games. I love them and torture any company we have into playing them with me. I cannot be blamed for this as some of the games require more than two players so I can only play them when we have guests. I’m sure it embarasses TGH to no end but he always plays with me when I ask him to. Even though we both know I always lose, I still enjoy playing (maybe I am secretly masochistic?). But TGH will go along with me because we also both know that a happy Teeni is the best kind. ![]()

Oh Teeni, pity we don’t live close to each other as I LOVE board games!! Have you got RISK? That’s a great one for playing with friends. We really like games like Balderdash and Taboo when friends come over. Scrabble is great for playing when it’s just the 2 of us. And card games are fun as well. We’ve got a really good one called Red 7’s … love it!
Oh yes - I have two Risk games. I LOVE Risk!! One you can see in the pic - 2nd shelf from the top and 2nd game in from the left. That one is in a wooden box, but I also have a version in a tin I think. I started collecting them in tins or wooden boxes whenever I can because the cardboard boxes always get beat up and you lose pieces that way. I love Balderdash. Taboo is good (I used to have it but either sold it at a yard sale or left it at my sister’s). For card games I have Cranium’s Zigity and Uno as favorites. I’ve never heard of Red 7’s. You’ll have to tell me more. And I DO wish we lived closer - I’m always looking to find people who love board games. It seems harder all the time. Oh yeah - I also have about seven versions of Scrabble.
we usually play Scrabble without the board, speed scrabble.
You take all the tiles and put them face down on the table, then when everyone is ready, you “Take Four”.
the idea is to make a mini scrabble board of your own on your space on the table. Once you’ve used all four of your tiles you scream: “TAKE FOUR!!” (well, i suppose you could just say it, but where’s the fun in that?) Even if people haven’t used all their tiles they have to take four anyway.
You can rearrange the letters/words in your own board, but when you do that - you run the risk of someone saying Take Four while you’re reorganizing, and you’ll have to take four more on top of that.
When all the tiles are gone, the first one to use all their tiles screams: “DONE” and then you add up your score via the numbers on the tiles.
it’s pretty fun. exciting, cuz it’s fast and you can’t spend your time humming and hawing over your next move.
OR
Play the Original Scabble with the board - but make it themed. We played “erotic” scrabble with another couple, it was hilarious and kinda educational. LOL. all words had to be used in an erotic sentence.
oh yeah, and in speed scrabble, when the game is over cuz someone screamed DONE… then any tiles you have in your ‘hand’ that you haven’t used, those points count against you.
Those are awesome ways to play!!! Thanks Laura! I want to try them. TGH will probably like the speed version of Scrabble because he hates playing when people take forever to take their turns. (Of course, I’m sure he’d love the erotic version also - LOL). So would I.
I, too, love board games. My husband hates them but he plays to make me happy. He’s good like that!
Taboo is my favourite because I can actually kick my big brother’s hiney in it. I just did a post on the very topic
teeni, there is a photo of one of our erotic scrabble games on my page!
oooo! You know I’ve got to go check THAT out. BRT (Be Right There)!
We play “Take Four” as well, but ours is “Take Two” (you start with 4 tiles, and then take 2 each time). It’s a lot of fun!!
And yes, you have to scream it out each time as it is much more fun that way!
Loud games ARE the best! I have a few that are like that and they are very fun to play with the right group of people.
I love board games as well. I have nobody to play them with tho. My Husband doesnt like to play games, and we are very isolated, so no real friends. Play one for me, ok? Monoloply is my favorite
I love Monopoly too. It is hard to get people to play because it is a longer playing game and that seems to turn some people off. I still think it’s great though and you can limit the time or play different variations.
Sorry you are isolated, Calamity. I just tried searching to see if there were any online monopoly games but the best one I saw was a free trial and then you’d have to buy it at Atari.com.
I grew up playing board games with the fam…now H doesn’t like them much. sigh
I’m gonna have to find some online board games and get us a time tied down and make you all play!!! LOL
