Kinda Funny Faux Pas
Posted on August 24, 2007 - Filed Under My Sick Humor, Tangents

Sister #3 is staying at my mom’s house temporarily while she goes through the transaction of purchasing her new townhome. Well, as tiny as I am, she is even tinier than me and I sometimes have clothes that have shrunk (let’s not face the possiblity that it could have been me that grew) so I will bring them to her. She works full time and I don’t, so I might stop at mom’s sometimes and leave an article of clothing on my sister’s bed for her to find later.
Most recently, I had a little nightgown that was too short for me. It was pretty and made of navy blue satin with turquoise lace trim and a slightly Asian-style floral design. But, if I bent over, the only thing that would keep me from exposing my nether regions to the world was a thin strip of lacy material, and even that was too transparent for me. I figured since my sister is tinier than me that it might fit her differently and she might feel more comfortable wearing it. So I left it for her on her bed.
Obviously my sister liked her little “find” when she got home. So much so that she wore the little nightgown. To. My. Aunt’s. Wake.
She didn’t realize it was a nightgown, not a dress, and I wasn’t there when she got home from work to tell her differently, so I guess I can’t blame her. Imagine my surprise though when I was at the wake and she walked in wearing that (fortunately it covered her more than it did me). But I still think I had trouble keeping my eyes in my head as I pulled her aside and asked her why she was wearing a nightgown to the wake. Her eyes got bigger and bigger, matching mine and we both just cracked up laughing until the tears were flowing. We filled in Sister #1 and another cousin and they got a kick out of it too. When we were leaving, my cousin said “Goodnight” to her even though it was only late afternoon.
It’s a good thing my family has a good sense of humor. My aunt would have laughed too. ![]()

Too funny! Glad she could laugh about it - really when stuff like that happens you just have to laugh:-)
Oh dear! ROFLMBO!! That is just too good!! Sounds like something I would do! LOL
It definitely led to the laughing which was a good outlet for the stress and tears we needed to get out at the wake so all in all it was a good thing. I call it, “Making Memories.” LOL
that is a priceless story.
Hehee. And I’ll never let her forget it!
OMG! That IS funny…sorry to hear about your Aunt tho, that isn’t funny.
Well, I’m only 5′2″ and that is being a tad generous…teehee
Harmonia - I am just a hair under 5′. My sister is about the same height but she is thinner than me - skinny little booger that she is! That is why I thougt the nightie would fit her better. LOL. And it DID look nice on her. I guess I might never have known if this didn’t happen. LOL
That’s a cute story and yes I’ve worn nightgowns as dresses no one was the wiser. It’s great that you and your family had a laugh and its great that your aunt would have gotten a kick out of it if she were alive.
Yes, some nightgowns really are hard to tell from day clothes. Ahh, if only families could get along so well all the time. **sigh**
I have bestowed another award on you - sorry but I had to being that you are such a nice person and all.

Awww, Kami! How sweet of you! Thank you very much! Hugs all around!!!!!
Teeni if you ever write a memoir or a set of short stories about your amazing life, this is one for it! It sounds like you and your sisters have a ball together! Thank you for my humor break!
LOL. I definitely would have to include this one Heather! It’s like something that would only happen in a movie, not in real life. heehee
isnt’ that what a wake is uspposed to be about though? reminding eachother aboout the great things aabout the person who is no longer there to enjoy it?
Exactly, Jen. Wakes are so weird because you are almost afraid to laugh or smile for fear it might look disrespectful or something. But I know my aunt would have pretended to be mad, made a nasty remark and then laughed right along with us. She was the M&M kind of person - all hard coated on the outside but secretly melty on the inside.
OMG that is hilarious!!!! ROFL!!!
Hannah - you would have cracked up right along with us and you should have seen my sister’s eyes and how big they got - I don’t think she knew whether to believe me or not when I told her it was really a nightgown.
I like that analogy; “she was the M&M kind of person! well, I like most things that refer to chocolate. But still that is clever!
Thanks!
