Things I’ve Learned From Blogging 1
Posted on August 28, 2007 - Filed Under Writing/Blogging

Don’t underestimate the power of the “train of thought.” One teensy little idea can turn into a bunch of paragraphs. Just when you think you’ve got nothing to blog about, you get a tiny spark of an idea - only a sentence worth, maybe. But then it snowballs, gathering steam, more words and ideas, and finally more sentences. Before you know it - you’ve word-spewed all over the page. This always seems to happen unexpectedly.
With me, it always seems inexplicably to happen when I’m commenting on someone else’s blog. I do apologize to everyone I’ve spewed on. I guess it is sort of a compliment because it means you sparked my interest and “got me going” (Opal and Harmonia - you know what I mean). LOL
I’m getting better at catching myself doing it in the comments and it sometimes leads to a post of my own so sometimes you will see a comment from me and it will say “oops - I’m babbling again.” Do me a favor if you see something like that and just smile, thinking to yourself, “Good ol’ Teeni - she’s still got a couple of marbles rolling around up there.”
Thanks, friends!

Haha, I’m a “spewer” too and probably need to apologise to you and many others for my long-winded comments sometimes!!
I love your comments, Hannah - sometimes I wish they were longer! LOL
You’re a conversationalist Teeni- something quiet people like me appreciate at times when we can’t think of the words! That’s why I talk in images, drawings, etc.
You have so many colorful marbles you could fill an entire house with them!
That has got to be the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me! I love that you think my marbles are colorful!!!! THAT is the BEST!! Hugs to you, Heather my pal!
I personally, like long winded comments for exactly the reason you said… it’s a compliment in my opinion!
You have such spunk Teeni and it’s great fun
Kami - you are too kind. I’ve certainly been blessed by having the best fellow bloggers. What a wonderful trip this has been for me so far, this whole blogging thing. Kami, I think you just inspired another post from me. I’ve got to go start the draft now (before the thought escapes me). LOL
I’m beaming Teeni from your nice words!
I always welcome friendly chatter on my blog!
There is nothing to apologize for when making comments and trying to follow a train of thought. In doing so you can accomplish so many things. You add to the original post, you show off your writing style and that in turn could make others interested in reading more about what you have to say so they follow you over to your own blog. It also helps lead you to other ideas that you can continue to your blog. Don’t be afraid to comment. Don’t be afraid to follow that train of thought either. If you feel like you are running long, break your original post into several smaller posts. This will leave your readers wanting and begging for more. This will keep your readers hooked. You are doing an excellent job. Keep it up.
Wow! Thank you, Mark. I needed to hear that today. I’m just having an “off” day today. So it was really nice to hear some good things.
Good ol’ Teeni.
i love having you babble on my blog… please feel free to continue.
You are too nice to me! Thanks, buddy!
Looking forward to that post! I think it might inspire me to do a post too
I know what you mean about writing longer comments. I have found I’ll start commenting, and realize I practically have a post going.
I like the others here, appreciate longer comments. I value community and conversation on my blog, and count these as an indication that I am on the right track in my blogging.
Funny, how I’ll feel bad about leaving a long comment at times, but I like it when people leave them on my site so I guess I shouldn’t feel bad anymore since you and others have expressed that you like it too. Thanks for making me see the light!
