Grill Gadget

Griddler - Closed Griddler - Open

This is the Griddler. It was a gift I bought for TGH because he loves grilled panini sandwiches. This little gadget unhinges as it presses down on the food so it can accommodate a pretty thick sandwich. It then acts as a contact grill and cooks or toasts the sandwich, melting any cheese you might have included and heating the contents between the bread. Yum. It also has removable, dishwasher safe plates that are interchangeable. There is a flat set to be used as a griddle (it opens all the way to the flat position to give you a larger griddle surface) and a grooved set (shown in second photo) to give you those lovely grill marks. This was a higher priced kitchen gadget at approximately $90, but we have really enjoyed it and have gotten our money’s worth out of it. Plus the ease of cleanup and the quality of the appliance made it well worth it. It’s been in use for a couple of years now and still works wonderfully. I love appliances that are practical because they do more than just one thing, saving precious cabinet and counter space in the kitchen!

That’s convenient when I worked out of the home they had a place a few blocks down that sold panini’s I never got one because the grill looked as if it had never been cleaned. Yuck. This was a “nice restaurant” Yeah! Yeah! Maybe they high heat kills the germs (highly doubt it kills all of them) but I’m not going to purchase it.

I wouldn’t if I had seen that either. That’s why I like this gadget - the plates can easily be removed, cleaned and sanitized in my dishwasher on the “sanitize” cycle!

The high heat might kiil the germs, but all of the burnt residue are probably carcinogenic. I think those machines are just hard to clean. At work, they abandoned using the sandwiches directly on the plates and instead put foil around the food first, so its much cleaner.

I’ve been eyeing one for a while I might purchase one. I have a Forman grill it does a great job on veggies. I love stainless steel so of course this one is screaming, “Buy Me!”

    TGH,
That is smart to put foil on those plates.

I bought my wife a Foreman Grill for Christmas, she requested it! It is awesome, it has interchangeable plates, and a hinged lid like this one. Being able to remove the cooking surfaces makes it relatively easy to clean.

There is even a set of plates to make waffles . . . hmm waffles. I agree with Opal though, I do love stainless steel appliances.

OOO - they didn’t have the interchangeable plates on the Foreman grill when we purchased this gadget. If they had, we probably would have gotten one of those! But this is basically the same. Yes, the stainless steel now goes with all our new appliances we got for our kitchen renovation - which is STILL in progress! But we’re getting there slowly! ;)
