Seitan Sandwich

Here’s a nice little sandwich I made a few nights ago. It is sliced homemade wheat gluten roast (seitan) with rice cheese and bell peppers on a roll. I threw together some mushroom gravy for dipping and had some crispy raw sugar snap peas on the side. All the work had been done earlier and consisted mostly of cooking the roast, which wasn’t so hard. Another simple, easy dish.

well it looks good! As long as I dont think too hard about how it sounds. Wheat gluten, I dont know why but it sounds awful LOL I have never tried it, and would probably like it. Its just the way it sounds, KWIM?

LOL. Yeah, Calamity, I know what you mean. It’s really not that bad tasting and makes a pretty decent meat substitute in some cases. But it does take a little getting used to and I’m sure it is best just used as an aid to help transition to a meatless diet. Thanks for the laugh though!

I revised your line so the sandwich sounds tastier to me - It is sliced homemade cooked wheat gluten roast (seitan) with rice cheese and bell peppers on a roll.

I have to admit you and Opal are very creative about the foods you eat. Quite a few of the vegans I know here in Portland just eat french fries and garden burgers, but your meals actually seem varied and interesting.

LOL - Thanks, Thomas. If it weren’t for health reasons and if I didn’t feel bad for the cows, I’d still be living on Jr. Whoppers w/ cheese and fries. So I try to make my food interesting so I won’t miss those things too much. By the way, I love french fries but now I’ll only eat the baked oven “fries.” Those are delicious and way healthier.
