Teeni’s Tips XIX

Ahh, my dear nieces and nephews,
Glad to see you’ve come to visit your favorite old aunt again. You know these days it’s tough to make your money go far but there are still little tricks that will help you along the way. So sometime when you’re in your first apartment, you may want to refer back to these little tips from your crazy old aunt.
For instance, you know you need bread to live on for those quick PB&J on-the-go sandwich meals so you will more than likely have some bread in the house. But a lot of times you just don’t use the whole bag of bread by the end of the week or you don’t like to eat the ends. Well, you’re trying to stretch the almighty dollar aren’t you for goodness sakes, so don’t you dare throw that out (unless it’s moldy for crying out loud - sheesh you’re in your own apartment now, do you need me to TELL you that?!). LOL. Anyway, what you can do with the leftovers is make french toast, and this works great for those nasty little bread ends that nobody wants to eat in a sandwich anyway. Now do it right away, while you’re thinking of it, before the bread DOES get moldy. Then you can freeze it and keep it in the freezer, adding more little french toasted bread ends to your collection, until you have enough to make a lovely little weekend brunch with it!
Since I’m saving you all this money, you’ll likely be able to afford to put me in a lavish rest home and you can bring me some there when you come to visit. Don’t forget, I like the good stuff when it comes to maple syrup - only 100% pure will do it for me! ![]()

That’s a great tip! I didn’t realise you could freeze french toast once it was cooked!
Great tip. I don’t think people realize that the amount of food they waste ends up being a huge amount of money over the course of a month…
Thank you! You are right - and it is such a shame with the modern conveniences of refrigeration we have today. And I don’t want my nieces and nephews to have to repeat everyone else’s mistakes and I don’t want them to be suffering financially (or go hungry) so that is the reason for all these Teeni’s tips.
Fabulous idea and so much yummier than the bread crumbs I make from our old bread
You are such a wonderul Aunt;-)
Thanks, Kami!
if they keep their bread in the fridge (or freezer, like i do) it wont go mouldy.
Good point, Jen (I keep mine in the freezer too because between TGH and I and we never finish a whole loaf quick enough). Still, it’s only good for so long and then you still have the uneaten, unloved bread “ends,” though. LOL
