A Teeni Poem

Posted on September 14, 2007 - Filed Under Tangents, Teeni Poem

Cold sheets at night,

Summer’s delight;

Warm sheets at mornin’,

Teeni’s a-snorin’

Okay, well it’s not really original. It’s a rip-off of that old sailor’s saying. But I had to change it to fit how I feel in the Autumn.

I really don’t like the cold weather. The thing I have to gripe about most though is my bed - the sheets in particular. In the summer there is nothing better than cool sheets when you are ready for your nightly slumber. But in the Autumn, it takes me forever to get cozy at night. The sheets are too cold and I’ll toss and turn, endlessly searching for a comfortable position. Nothing ever seems “just right.” Or the weight of the blankets on top of me is too light so I feel too exposed. Or it could be that TGH is hogging all of the sheets because of that strange way he has of rolling and cocooning himself into them. Sometimes, I almost send him careening into the opposite wall when I yank the sheets back and he unrolls, flapping around like an old window shade. Finally, I’ve exhausted myself and do usually end up falling to sleep. But usually it’s in a less-than-comfy position.

In the morning, on the other hand, it is a completely different story. The alarm clock goes off and TGH gets up to ready himself for work (and nurse any bruises from the night before). Then I’m left all alone in a big warm toasty bed and no matter which way I turn is perfect, just perfect. On my side is nice and cozy or I can roll on my back and spread out or I can tuck my arms up under my pillow, or even flop onto my belly, knowing it is going to feel great. Everything feels just right. I can turn any which way and fall back into a delicious warm snooze.

Why on earth does this happen? Why is bed the absolute coziest when you have to get OUT of it? Life is so not fair.

LOL see I would know nothing about that I leap out of bed in the morning. I used to have problems falling asleep, but I don’t anymore. I sleep between 3-5 hours nightly.

I couldn’t function with that little sleep. I don’t know how you do it.

Isnt that the truth, Teeni? I hate that!! All comfy and just the best spot in the world and you have to get out of it! grrr

XDD My bed is perfect alll the time… but then again… I keep my room temp warmer than the rest of the house and my bed cooler… it’s more fun to crawl out of a comfortably cool bed and into warm air… XD

You are nutty. A cool bed? Absolutely nutty, I say.

maybe your sleep cycles have something to do with it. Do you like to stay up late? Or maybe you’re just getting into good sleep by the morning time! I like sheets and blankets to have a little weight to them too, or else I also feel exposed.
Actually, I think it was because we all stayed up too late last night at your Pajama Party!!! hee hee

Heather, you may be on to something there! It’s definitely the pajama party! LOL. Seriously, my sleep patterns have been pretty bad - I don’t fall asleep early - I can lay there for hours it seems before sleep comes to visit. And I definitely do go to bed too late. I’m working on that by slowly trying to get up earlier each day so I’ll be tired and go to sleep earlier at night. I hope I can get to a normal pattern within two weeks. That will be my goal.

Aw, sorry you’re not excited about colder weather… I’m one of those weirdos that happen to just love winter! Still, I agree that there’s nothing better than a warm bed, and I don’t think it would be nearly as nice without my toasty electric blanket on those frigid nights! Perhaps you’d be interested in checking one out for yourself?

You know, I’ve always been a little scared of those electric blankets so I’ve never tried one. But that might help. Or maybe I could just drag out my down comforter - that might do the trick! It just seems early to be pulling out the big guns. LOL

Is something happening in two weeks that you need to get into a normal pattern?

No, Heather - at least not that I know of. But I figured it’s good to have a goal date to accomplish something by. It will make me try harder to get it done. But then again, my niece will be having surgery again soon so I want to be all fresh for that so I can help her out again!

It’s what we call SOD’s Law this side of the water…. :-)
Really, Penny? Wow. I need to do some research on that. Or I could just cheat and have you fill me in!

LOVE IT sorry I wasnt able to comment on the pajama party that night! I was so sick. I ended up in the ER :( Hopefully I can do the next one?!?!?!!? If there is one.

Kaylee - you were there! I saw your pillow! It’s okay. I haven’t done any real “real-time” parties yet but I may for the next one because Opal kindly offered to host a party room on her server for my next party. It will be neat to try having a live chat room where we all can gather. And don’t worry - there will be plenty more parties and you are always invited. All you have to do is bring something related to the party. I do hope you are feeling better - sorry about the trip to the ER. I will be over to your site shortly!

You know I like warm weather…I don’t like cold. sigh. Sorry I am behind on your posts…I will be catching up on them tomorrow. I have been doing a lot of MISC in the Zoi. Should be back to “normal” soon…whatever that is…lol…

    Chat with you tomorrow!!! :)
I’m hoping everything gets back to normal for you soon, too. It’s real quiet in the blogosphere without you!

On the other hand, Karen and I are sleeping great. Right now, it’s 65°F (18°C) inside and close to freezing outside. The heat is on to boost the temperature a little bit. I’m sleeping straight through the night and so is Karen. Of course, we always sleep under at least one of her quilts, and right now, there’s two or three.

We’ll be moving on in a couple of days heading down to the Jackson, Wyoming, and Grand Teton National Park.

That is one good thing about the cooler weather. At least once you do fall asleep, you can usually stay asleep. I’m jealous of your and your wife’s quilts! I’m definitely pulling out the down comforter tonight!

LOL I really like your writing style :) I agree with you , life just isn’t fair, well not all the time… but that’d be a bit demanding, isn’t it?

I like my bed warm and snuggly too and had totally forgotten about the electric blanket… but it seems too soon doesn’t it? I hate cold weather too… especially the mornings, until we turn on the heat!! and I am trying to go to bed earlier also ‘cuz I’m operating on a 4 to 5 hr sleep which is taking a toll on just about every aspect of my life….my gosh, so many similarities we have teeni….:)

Welcome to the Tea Room, Pearl. So glad to have you stop by. There ARE a lot of similarities! LOL. I knew I liked you right off! :)

I just got home and now am “home” here among my blogging friends!
I prefer warmer weather but sure know what you mean about the sleep just before you get up being the nicest..lol.
    What about getting a duvet?
It will keep you nice and warm and you won’t have the weight of the blankets…it also puffs up around you so there are no cold air “leaks” ..

Yay! Merri’s back! You were missed! I think I DO have a duvet. I need to pull it out and put it to good use. What was I thinking? ;)

  15. Hannah (362 comments.) on September 16th, 2007 6:57 pm

It’s so true!! I don’t usually have trouble falling asleep but you’re right about the mornings ALWAYS being perfect for snoozing, and always being comfy.

We use duvets here too, and they are awesome. I would recommend you use one!! And if your sheets are cold at night, what about an electric blanket??

Electric blankets kind of scare me. But I think the duvet should do it. I guess I just like postponing pulling it out because when I pull it out that means that I’ve accepted that Summer is over. LOL

Oh I am so with you on this one! I get the best sleep after my hubby gets up and goes to work at the crack of dawn. The whole bed, to myself is heaven!

  18. Melsie (53 comments.) on September 17th, 2007 3:52 pm

I have that problem of falling asleep!! It takes me forever, but my hubby can all asleep in seconds!! I now use flannel sheets so they have some warmth to them. As for the blanket hog, yeah that’s me. We have a blanket to share and I also have one of my own to roll up in. It’s comfortable!! Can’t o without it!! lol
But mornings are too comfy to get out of bed too quickly, I need my comfy time to wake up a little bit.
