Let’s Play a Game!

Posted on September 18, 2007 - Filed Under Games, Got Me Thinking, Just for Fun, TV, Television

My sisters and I used to like to amuse ourselves with games we made up ourselves or by making silly stories or lists. Obviously, I still do this, if you count volleyblog and virtual blog parties. I’m always thinking of creative, silly, fun things to do (well, they seem creative, silly and fun to me anyway).

Sister #3 recently came across some old lists we had put together as teenagers. I may post some of them at some future time because I still think they are funny. But I started wondering if I could engage some of my readers in the same type of games we used to play. There really is no winner for this type of game - it is just to exercise your mind, bring back memories, and challenge yourself.

So why don’t we, just for fun, see how long a list we can come up with for, say - TV shows named after places.

I can think of three right off the top of my head: (NOTE: List edited to add commentor’s additions and to alphabetize the list.)

Can you tell I don’t have any pressing work to do today?

LOL. Kami, get all your chores done first - I don’t want you to get in trouble for adding to the list! ;) Nice adds, by the way! TGH already got Degrassi Junior High though so I’ll edit that one out of the list so it isn’t there twice. And I’m still deciding whether or not to include Veronica Mars because isn’t that her name on the show and not really a reference to the planet? Hmmm. This wasn’t supposed to hurt my brain. LOL

  9. Phyllis on September 19th, 2007 4:18 pm

    Some oldies:
    77 Sunset Strip
    Streets of San Francisco

And some non traditional places where I don’t want to be:
    The Office

Oooooh - these are good - especially the ones where you don’t want to be. Heehee. Too funny! vGood ones, Phyllis. I’m adding them to the list!

  10. Ariana on September 19th, 2007 9:11 pm

Just wanted to stop by and say HI Teeni!!!

You’re a great cousin and a great sister too. :p

Hey Ariana!!!! So wonderful to see you drop in on this side of my life! LOL. You are always welcome so come by any time and feel free to join in whenever you like! Hugs to you, cuzster!

  11. kaylee (67 comments.) on September 20th, 2007 12:07 am

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM I JUST CAME T SAY HI I cant think of any to add!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(
That’s okay, Kaylee! You can come over to say hi anytime! I don’t mind. You can always add to the list if you think of something later too. Hope all is well with you. I’ll try to visit you in a day or two - been verrrry busy lately and away from my computer a lot.

  12. Harmonia (29 comments.) on September 20th, 2007 12:11 am

Oh! Ari’s here…hello! She visited me today too! :) I will put this to some more thought but I thought of a rare one…it was in the early 90’s I think it was called Swans Crossing…it was like a “teen soap”…the town was called Swans Crossing hence the name…it had Sarah Michelle Gellar in it…it was short lived 2 years at the most…

Also…what about Sweet Valley High…with the Twins after the Book Series…

    Passions…the soap

    AND…Fantasy Island…”Dee Plane…Dee Plane!!!”

    More coming soon!!!

OOOOoo - I got you thinking, Harm! LOL. I’ll add all of these but have to ask, was Passions the name of a place? I didn’t watch that one so I’ll leave it off the list until you let me know otherwise.

  13. Harmonia (29 comments.) on September 20th, 2007 12:13 am

2 Guys, a Girl, and a PIZZA SHOP

Another good one! Good memory, Harmonia - I couldn’t think of all these before but I keep hitting myself in the forehead when people put them in the comments! Why didn’t I think of these? LOL

  14. Hannah (382 comments.) on September 20th, 2007 3:52 pm

You’ve got Boston Legal and Chicago Hope on there twice ;-) I mentioned them, and then your hubby did too :-)
OOOoooh - Good eyes, Hannah! I’m taking out TGH’s Chicago Hope. He had Boston Public there, not Boston Legal so I will leave that, but I will work on sorting the list alphabetically - I think I can use Excel for that and I will repost to make it easier to see and catch duplicates! Wow. I still can’t believe you caught that! ;)

  15. Phyllis on September 20th, 2007 5:20 pm

I mentioned this to Dad and he wanted to add to the list:
    Sesame Street
    West Wing
    Peyton Place
    Surf side Six
    Romper Room
    Boom Town
    Love Boat
    Naked City
    ER
    Rm 222
    Hawaiian Eye
    Gilligan’s Island
    Apples way
    Rt 66
    Green Acres

Oh, these are good - LOL - Romper Room - my older sister used to watch that!

  16. kate (32 comments.) on September 20th, 2007 9:20 pm

Would Coronation Street fit on this list? By the way, I added your blog to my ‘Interesting Reads’ list.

Welcome back, Kate! ;) Yes, I think that Coronation Street definitely fits as it qualifies as a place. I’m adding it to the list. Thanks for adding me to your ‘Interesting Reads’ list. LOL. I always seem to fit into the ‘interesting’ category. I guess that is good. Otherwise I might not fit anywhere! So I’m happy with that. I’m adding you to my blogroll as well! ;)

  17. hrsj (105 comments.) on September 20th, 2007 9:54 pm

AAGHH, every title I think of is already on the list! Maybe the next one could be shows named after people!

That’s a good idea Heather. You already have me stumped. Oh, wait I thought of one but I’m saving that thought for the next post like this. LOL

  18. Kami (321 comments.) on September 20th, 2007 10:01 pm

What a great list! Way to go Teeni readers :-)
LOL. You are right though, Kami. Not to sound too snotty, but I DO have the best readers at my blog! Y’all can be jealous if you want because it’s true. That’s all I can say about it. :)

  19. Hannah (382 comments.) on September 20th, 2007 10:08 pm

There is a TV show here in NZ called “Shortland Street” and there is a street in Auckland (where I live) by the same name! So if you are happy to have “outsider” programmes you could add that one!

I also like Heather’s idea of having TV shows named after people for the next list!!

This is a really FUN post idea!

Definitely want to include “outsider” programmes. It’s even cooler because there is a street where you live with the same name. I’m adding it to the list. Funny - who’d have thought a silly little game I played with my sisters would end up being so much fun on a blog? There is another little thing we used to do but I’m trying to think of a way to adapt it to this format so we could try it. I’ll let you know if I can figure it out!

  20. Harmonia on September 21st, 2007 12:50 am

I think PASSION was the name of the town that PASSIONS was the soap…not sure…I only watched it a few times when it first came on.

    What about…

    This Old House
    Full House
General Hospital…someone may have already mentioned this one…

    Um…

    Little House on the Prairie
    Highway To Heaven
    Green Acres
    Orange County Choppers
    L.A. Ink
    Miami Ink

Ooooh - Orange County Choppers - that show is good. LOL. Thanks for the info about Passions - I had never seen it so I wasn’t sure if that was the name of the place or not. I need to watch more televison! LOL. I’m adding these to the list!

  21. TGH on September 21st, 2007 4:13 pm

This will get me a “stop being Mr. Technical” from my wife, but Orange County Choppers is the company name, but the show is American Chopper, which may still work because of the American.

LOL. Yeup - that’s you being technical. But I’ll change it - it’s still good. Thanks, honey. Love you!

  22. harmonia (175 comments.) on September 23rd, 2007 10:22 pm

You are correct…American Chopper…sorry…They are located in Orange County…Oops…my bad! ;)
LOL. Don’t mind him, Harmonia - that is why I call him TGH - the T stands for “technical” and sometimes it is good and sometimes it is annoying. So I gotta take the bad with the good. LOL. He even knew I was gonna call him on it as he said so in his comment. Technically, he is right about the show’s name though. However, the name of the shop on the show was Orange County Choppers and yes they are located in Orange County. So either way, it makes the list and that, in this little game, is all that matters! ;)
