Teeni’s Tips - Spicy Time Saver

Ah, my dear nieces and nephews,
You know what a pain it is to make some recipes? I mean you love them and want to make them all the time and all, but what a big hassle it is to find and dig out gather all the spices involved and measure them out. It almost makes you dread making the recipe. But you know that making some things at home is just better all around for you - it can be healthier, less fat, you know what is in it, you can tweak it yourself and you can save some money if you do it yourself at home.
So from now on make it a little easier on yourself. The next time you have to make that pain in the butt difficult recipe and sort through all those dagnabbed little jars items again, make it worth your while. Get yourself some little airtight containers - these can be recycled babyfood jars, plasticware, ziploc snack sized bags, whatever works. Now when measuring out all the dry ingredients, do it a couple times and put one amount for each recipe into the containers as well as for the meal you are making right now. The next couple of times you want to make the recipe, the hard prep work is done for you. Just grab your container and go. Granted this doesn’t work for everything but it does work well for rubs, french fry spices, home made shake and bake type coatings, spices for your wheat gluten roast, and I’m sure for many other recipes where a lot of dry spices are used. Right now I’ve got one rotisserie style spice bag (for chicken or for seitan or anything I might roast or rotisserize), plus I’ve got three oven french fry spice recipes ready to go. Don’t forget to mark each container with what is in it - you can use the permanent marker that I told you to keep in your kitchen in a previous tip.

Hmmm. Shake n Bake from scratch? I might need to borrow that recipe from you!
What a great idea! Although that goes against all my disorganized bones
LOL. Mine too Kami! But it does so help you save time and a mess when you are hungry and want to just get that food going in the oven!
Wow, good idea Teeni!
rotisserize <– lovin’ that word.
Thanks, Ms. REd. Just read your email (I got up late again, can you tell?) And I do love that word too. It’s fun to say!
Great idea, Teeni! Thanks for sharing!
You’re very welcome, buddy!
GOOD TIP BUt,I am lucky if i have the strength to get up and make one let alone more then one
and I am sorry but,I thought you were actually talking to your neices and nephews after I read that first line….I am a little out of today LOL!
I used to write these more frequently, Kaylee. My intention was to leave some little tips for my nieces and nephews as they got older and got out on their own. I don’t see why they should have to find everything out the hard way and if I can make their lives a little easier or help them save a buck or two then that would be great. So I originally started posting these with them in mind but hey I may as well share with everyone. If you want to see all the earlier ones, just search on the tearoom subjects for Teeni’s Tips. Some are just funny videos.
Wouldn’t it be easier to just not spice your food?
Just joking of course…I am a spicaholic…Hi, My name is Beth….
LOL. Well, spice is the variety of life or something like that, right?
That is a really good idea. I could see making a packet of spices for marinara/spaghetti type dishes, & a spicey mexican blend too. Those are some we use alot. You’re always thinking ahead teeni!
LOL. Thanks for the compliment, Heather. I really just am lazy and like to spend my time doing other more important things (like eating instead of prepping)!
