100 Meter Photoshow
Posted on November 27, 2007 - Filed Under Meme
Mike Goad tagged me for this meme last month and I just realized it two weeks ago. I’m a little slow but I’m pretty loyal and that is what matters, right? My apologies, again, Mike my friend. I have also been battling a cold lately so that is why I’ve been missing from the blogosphere so recently. Sorry about that. Anyway….
This meme is to show a little bit of what is going on within the 100 meters (about 328 feet) of your home. So here are photos from within 100 meters of my home - a little trip down Teeni lane of sorts. Please join me on a little tour.
We live on a very short street - there are only nine homes I believe. Across from one end of the street is a little cemetery. It is a very old cemetery and not really scary. In fact, it is really quite interesting and pretty at times. These arches are at one of the entrances to the cemetery. The columns that the arches are made out of used to have all kinds of ornate designs in them but those designs have mostly been worn away due to time and the elements. The iron gates are kind of neat but entirely useless. LOL. One is open in the picture but even if it weren’t, the big arches don’t have a gate to keep anyone out anyway. TGH and I sometimes walk through this cemetery during our walks in good weather.

The next photo is from inside the cemetery. You can see it really can be pretty here. This is the type of cemetery that you could get some good rubbings from. Some of the stones are more recent but many of them are very old and ornate.

The next photo shows a tree that TGH and I often pass during our walks. One time when we passed this tree, a little bird flew right over our heads into the hole that you can see in the upper right trunk of the tree. There was a little bird family living in there and I had to check it out every time we walked by it after that to see how they were doing.

The next photo shows something on the other end of our street. TGH and I never really knew what to call it. It’s not quite a barn and it’s not quite a garage. It’s a barage or a garn I guess. It sports an oversized garage door for really large vehicles, has some type of woodburning stove in it for heat, and also has a dirt cellar under it (or at least a partial one). Of course, it looks much spookier in this photo than it really looks in daylight but I thought the trees would look neat at night and it sort of makes sense for this picture to be dark because of the story that goes along with it. You see, the tree on the right is one that my male cat, Toast, climbed one day and used to jump on top of this building. He then found he couldn’t get down. It’s hard to see from this picture but the building is at least a story and a half tall, and in Toast’s defense, it is much easier to jump from a little branch to a big roof than it is to go the other way around. It was a summer night and we had the screens open and I could hear my little ginger boy crying from his predicament on top of that big old bad roof. There was no way I could sleep when he was so scared. So, TGH and I were out at midnight or so with a ladder trying to rescue Toast that night. We finally got him down when we brought his little wicker basket out and TGH climbed the ladder with it. Toast jumped into the basket and Voila! He was saved! Note: Our cats are now indoor cats.

If I tag you then please add your name to the list above and post it at your place with the link on your name going to your 100 meter post! I tag the following people:
Beth Ellen Nagle at The Eclectic Studio Cafe - because she has some great photo skills and I LOVE to look at her photos.
UPDATE: Beth Ellen, you are honorably discharged from this as Opal tells me this particular 100 Meter Photoshow meme is the one you still owe her. Sorry, I knew you owed her one but I didn’t keep up with which one you owed her.
Diane at A Northern Slant on Life - because I’d like to see more of her slanted northern landscape. ![]()
Heather Smith Jones at Drawing on the Walls - because I could listen to how she describes things and what goes through her mind when she sees those things all day long.
MacBros at MacBros’ Place - because he is one crazy dude so this should be interesting. ![]()
There was no time limit indicated in the meme as far as I could tell and I know these are busy times for most of us so I just want to reiterate to those I’ve tagged not to stress about it. If you can do the meme, great - just link back to me when you can. But please don’t let it stress you out - it’s only a meme after all. ![]()

Those are lovely pictures. It’s always great to see where your blog buddies live. I tagged Beth also, lol.
Aw, crap. I knew she owed you a meme but I didn’t realize it was THIS one. LOL. Oh well. That’s what the cold is doing to my head - see? That’s my excuse and I’m sticking with it. At least now I know there was someone who was even LATER than me getting it done. LOL.
[…] Check it out! While looking through the blogosphere we stumbled on an interesting post today. Here’s a quick excerpt100 Meter Photoshow November 27, 2007 by teeni Mike Goad tagged me for this meme last month and I just realized it two weeks ago. Lovely post and pictures but,I couldnt live that close to a cemetery! I would freak out! just knowing dead people were there!
Hey Kaylee if you would like to do this meme too, feel free to join in. You need to get some fresh air anyway, right?
Interesting set of pictures. Sorry to hear about the cold. I thought that I was coming down with one this last weekend, but managed to escape a large gathering (36 people) in a small meeting/dining room at an eatery in Rogers, Arkansas, on Saturday without catching anything, I think. We’ll have another chance in about three weeks when we hang out with the grandkids in Wisconsin for a few days just before Christmas. Take care.
Thanks, Mike! There is also a playground near my house that would have qualified but there were kids there playing and the last thing I needed was someone thinking I was up to no good photographing their kids at a playground, so I stuck with the cemetery instead. LOL. Thanks for the well wishes and hope you stay healthy too!
Okay i would love to do it but, give me a few days hahah! Hope you feel better soon!
Thanks, you too. And by all means, take your time. I don’t want anyone stressing out over it - it’s supposed to be fun!
Wow, this is a cool meme! I’ve never seen one like it but it’s neat! I really enjoyed reading more about where you live and seeing the pictures, which are all great. I agree that the cemetery is quite beautiful. And that the barn/garage thing looks a bit spooky in that photo!!
I’m sorry to hear that you haven’t been well - I hope you are feeling much better now. Take care! (HUGS)
Hannah - I wanted to tag you too but I felt guilty cuz I know you are so busy right now. Maybe you could put this one in your back pocket to do at a later date? I know I’d love to see more of where you live!!! Thanks for the hugs and well wishes. Those always make me feel better!
I love the look of the cemetery - the tree by the heart-shaped grave marker is gorgeous. Neat meme!
Thanks, Kate! I think that is a pretty cool looking tree also. I think Heather got me looking at trees more these days!
Ooh, nice photos. I love cemeteries. Just a note for future reference: (I’m not a meme person if you ever had me in mind)
I’d have to work out what a meter is in American……. yeah, I know, dumb americans but hey, I’m not alone in this although I do know that some are actually smart enough to do the calculations!
I hope you’re feeling a bit better now! I’ve not had any energy at all and had to give up beating myself up for it - it made it alot easier. I’m sort of trying to catch up but doing it at my own pace - which could take a while. I’ll do what I can, while I can and the rest can wait. I need to take it easy for me or there will be no me…yanno?
Hey, I hope you’re having a lovely peaceful day today.
Always love, always peace,
~ RubyShooZ ~
Ow, I’ll keep that in mind. A meter is about 328 feet, so all of these things were within or about that distance from my home (although I didn’t get all technical and measure for sure). Thanks for the well wishes and yes, you need to take care of yourself. Hope you have a lovely peaceful day as well. Thanks for stopping in, Ms. ShooZ
Oh wow! Great pictures, MsTeeeni! I absolutely looove the last one . . the colors behind the big bad barage is just too wicked cool! Im glad your cemetery isn’t a scary one . There’s one down the road from me and it scares me. It only have a handful of stones, but they’re really reallly old. Loved this memememe!
Feel free to steal the meme, Ms. Red. I’d love to see you do some more photos around your place too.
I like this meme- seeing what other people see every day and hearing their/your stories.
Toast got himself into quite a pickle; I can just picture you guys out there with his little basket. Hilarious! Yes, I think Toast had best stay inside! I had pictured you living in the city after you said the other day something about tall buildings around your place.
I will work on this. I just don’t know what 328 feet looks like so I’ll do my best!
Thank you for thinking of me teeni- i don’t know whether I’ll post it on drawing on the walls or my art space but I’ll let you know!
I hope you feel better soon! Are you drinking some green tea?
Yes, this really is a great meme and is like doing a normal post so it’s not much more work as some seem to be. You post it wherever you think it fits best. I wasn’t sure which of your spots to attach it to either so I linked both. LOL. Oh, yeah - well I feel like I have the best of both worlds - I live far enough away from the larger cities to have quiet nights yet I’m not so far out into the country, so I’m able to walk to things like the post office and stuff in my town. Thanks for the well wishes. Yes, I’m drinking green tea at night while relaxing with the hubby and hope to kick this cold yet!
It is interesting, the cemetary pictures you took are quite inviting, and the barn picture has a darker side to it. Personally I think living by a cemetary would be peaceful, at least your neighbors would be quiet at night . . . ba da dum dum.
I agree that it is interesting to see where you blog buddies live. You interact so frequently with your online friends, that you sometimes forget they live in a completely different environment than you do.
Toast sounds like a pretty goofy kitty, but do they come any other way? BTW I really like the name Toast!
LOL. Yeah, Thomas I like when things seem the opposite of what you would expect them to be. And LOL, yes, my neighbors are extremely quiet around here, even the living ones! I’m glad you like the name Toast. He is a handful and there are plenty of stories I could tell about him - maybe I will sometime. Did you know my female cat was named Jam? I figured you might like that.

what a great meme and I for one would like to see Diane’s too! =)
I’m with you, Lynsuk. Let’s hope she can participate!
And welcome to the Vaguetarian Tea Room. Hope you enjoyed your visit and that you’ll be back!
great photos!! I love the cemetery, but m strange like that LOL I owe Opal on this one too. I need to get on that!
Well, get to work! **cracks the whip** I can’t wait to see yours!
I think we should make Beth do two of them.
Yeah! LOL
Yay! I was hoping you’d say that .. I love sharing.
NEAT neighborhood you live in. I love the cemetary and the garage - neat picture at night… goes with the cemetary1

Thanks, Kami! Sometime in the future I’ll take some better shots in better lighting.
One of the things I liked coming out here to Wisconsin were the old graveyards. There are some amazing grave stones and I have often told my husband I would like to go around and get a photo collection. I suppose some might think that morbid but I am not morbid at all.
How about if I do 200 meter to make up for the one??
I have an interesting graveyard photo I should share sometime.
Hey, Beth Ellen - that works for me! And you know I love your photos so anytime you want to share one, just let me know where to go view it and I’m there.
Wow Teeni,
What a cool environment you live in. It seems quaint and countrified. I love old cemetaries, there is a lot of writing fodder there, just by reading the head stones and letting your imagination run rampant.
WC
Thanks, WC! When I read what you wrote, I immediately started thinking that some of my horror-writing friends would probably really enjoy my little cemetary. Anyone seen AntiBarbie around?
Oh, what beautiful pictures!
Hmm, my street is very long and just full small front gardens so not really any landscapes/scenes but I will use my imagination and maybe do some typically Brit photos.
Don’t know when it will be though!
It’s nice to see what other people see round where they live.
I’d love to see what you come up with no matter when or how!
Cool idea, I might steal it…since you didn’t tag me…
Great pictures!
Please do steal it! I’d love to see your surroundings and your photography. As a mater of fact - I was going to tag you but didn’t think you had a digital camera for some reason. It is a fun and different meme.
WONDERFUL pics, Teeni! Sorry that am I late in commenting!
Hope that you are feeling better!
I loved the story about poor little Toast..aww..
GLAD that he lives safely indoors now…
take care..
Hi Merri! You’re never too late to comment! I thought you might like that little story about my Toast. He’s quite a character and has a few stories like that which I may share sometime.
