Organic and Healthy Treat

Here are some last minute stocking stuffers for your loved ones who are trying to eat healthier. These snack bars by Nutiva are amazingly healthy. They are all natural and have wonderful ingredients.

I tested the Hempseed Bar which is all organic. With ingredients like sunflower seeds, honey, hempseeds, flax seeds, and pumpkin seeds it was quite a mouthful of texture. I could easily pack these into my purse and go without a meal if I had to. All those seeds were like a miniature orchestra going off in my mouth and the touch of honey added just the right amount of sweet to the symphony.
Next, I tasted the Flax & Raisin Bar. It was filled with all organic ingredients also, with the obvious substitution of flax seeds for the hempseeds. But this bar also contained sesame seeds (which I love), raisins and almonds. This bar tasted very similar to the Hempseed bar but the raisins were an additional element in the texture department. Very satisfying.
Last, I tasted the Flax Chocolate Flaxseed Bar. This bar, too, was filled with organic goodness (except for the chocolate). It also had crisp rice. The combination of the rice and chocolate took the bar to a new level where it made me think I was eating something much worse than I should be eating, like a candy bar. So yeah, I thought it tasted great. ![]()
So if you know anyone who would rather have something healthy in their stockings than the standard sugary candy fare, then these little bars just might be what Santa ordered. Only if they’ve been good, of course!

the bars sound good! too bad they’re not vegan :0(
That’s true, VeggieGirl. They do contain honey so my vegan friends will not want to partake.
These are all delicious! Great recommendation!
Thank you Myartfullife! I did enjoy these. Welcome to the Vaguetarian Tea Room! Hope you enjoy your visit and please drop in any time.
I have always had problems with whole flaxseed, in that those pointy lil buggahs want to rip me a new one.
Hi Yourgrace! LOL. Sorry, I’m not laughing at YOU but at your description and how you spelled buggahs! I love that. Sadly, I don’t have much experience with flax seeds. I don’t allow myself to have too many of them because I’m trying to avoid the phytoestrogens in them so really, this is the first time I’ve had them whole. I guess I’ll have to wait now and see if they **ahem** “affect” me that way.
I might have to try those.Ever since my fainting spells started I have been cut off stuff that contains high amount of sugar. The doctors think that could have something to do with it cause when I faint my sugar levels seem to be high.SO I cant have large amounts anymore.
Oh, good news then Kaylee. EAch of these has only 10g of sugars or less. The hempseed one has only 5g!
I think I’ve had them or something similar before.
If a person is trying to lower their fat intake they might want to watch how many bars they consume checking out the package over 1/2 of the calories is from fat. Although fat isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you consume too much it’s not good for you.
Also remember that complex carbohydrates like (breads, pasta, rice, baked goods, cereal, etc.) are high on the glycemic index and can be converted to sugar. It’s something for people, especially diabetes, sufferers to remember. You have to be attentive to more than sugar on the packaging.
Yep, I’m a label reader…
I am too and that is why it takes me so darned long to do the food shopping these days! LOL. Thank you for reminding me and my readers about the fat and glycemic index, Opal. See? This is why I always love it when you show your face around here! You always have some valuable information or insight. Thanks again, buddy.
Well nutrition lately has been on my mind especially since I now write about it with my freelance job. I really have to step back when I write those articles and think of everyone, besides myself, I know what I can eat and how to identify hidden dangers but I know not everyone is aware of them.
Occasionally I hesitate to say anything in a blogging format but I didn’t think you would take it as my picking apart what you offered just adding more info for those who might have to look out for certain things.

Yes I’ve been scarce on my blog comments and blog visits. I haven’t been doing too much of that lately. Work & family has been keeping me extremely busy. I do take time to smell the roses.
I always know you have people’s best interests at heart and that you are not visiting to nit pick so I welcome any additional info/insight you have. I think I’ve gotten to know you well enough that I can tell the very generous and kind person you are. So no worries about that. And yes, I do miss your visits but I understand we all get busy at times so I’ll take you whenever I can get you! You just come when you can and you know I’ll be happy with that. Hugs to you, buddy!
Mmm! Those sound yummy . . ’specially the raisin one!
Yes, it was good. I love raisins. Oh, now you got me thinking of chocolate covered raisins and chocolate covered peanuts. Yum. Oops. Heheh.
Those look very tasty!

For a healthy treat, it was quite tasty. And it even felt pretty neat in my mouth. Weird, but true. LOL
I swear we used to have bars with those same ingredients in our pet store for birds like cockatoos and parrots. That’s funny.
OMG! That is true!!! I almost fell off my chair when I saw your comment. LOL. But oh well, I guess if it’s good enough for the birds, it’s good enough for the humans? Is that how it goes? Well, it does now. Except for worms, cuz that would just be gross.
