A Story Game
Posted on December 20, 2007 - Filed Under Games, Just for Fun
I’ve got an idea for a story game based on one I used to play with my sisters when I was younger (oh heck, I STILL play it whenever I can, I may as well be honest).
Here’s the quick and dirty of it - one person would have a lined piece of paper in front of them and start off by writing a sentence and a half or so of a story they made up. They would then pass that paper to the next person. The second person would read what was written on the previous lines and add to it. Then that person would fold the sheet over just enough to cover what the first person had written and pass it on to the next person. This way you could only see the last two lines and not the whole story. You had to work with only what you could see. When the page was filled, someone would have to read the whole thing out loud - a lot of times we couldn’t get anyone to do it because they’d start cracking up so someone else would have to take over reading it.
Obviously we can’t do the physical paper thing and we can’t have someone read it out loud so here is how I think it would work on line. If I could have everyone who is interested in playing please leave a comment here and a good email address. I’ll start the story and email it to the next person on the list - they will read what I wrote and add to it. Then they will email me back what they added. I will then email just what they added to the next person on the list and have them add to that. So unlike the paper version, I will know the story as it is going along, but the players will only see the couple of lines before theirs. And I don’t mind being the “moderator” in this case because I still think I will get a kick out of seeing what you all add. Once we’ve gone through the list of players once or twice (depending on how many people want to try playing this) then I’ll post the resulting story.
So - anyone want to play? (New readers feel free to jump in!) ![]()

Hey Hay! (you must get that all the time, sorry - LOL) Welcome to the Vaguetarian Tea Room! I’ll be happy to add you to the list of players, and yes, a line or two shouldn’t be too hard. If I can do it, anyone can!
I’ll send you an email when it’s your turn.
Cool, let’s play. My email should come up in your edit box.
