100 Things About Me - Part 3 of 10
Posted on December 24, 2007 - Filed Under 100 Things
Here’s another installment of trivia about me. Cuz if you are like me, you are nosey and you know you like to read this stuff.
- I have to either read or write a little before bed each night because I have a hard time falling asleep if I don’t.
- I have an astigmatism in my eyes so sometimes I fear going down the stairs. They appear to me to blend into each other (I can’t always tell where the edge of the step is so I can’t tell where one ends and the next begins - it’s a weird depth perception thing).
- I very rarely fall, but when I do it is more often going UP the stairs and not down as I usually fear it will be.
- I’m afraid of escalators. I will use them but I stay in the middle of the steps and far away from the edges. I have a hard time judging when to step on them.
- Also, I don’t like walking up and down the escalators as they are moving. Hello?!! They are moving so you don’t have to. Otherwise what is the point of using them? If you want to do the moving, use the regular stairs and don’t rush us people who are afraid of getting swallowed by the metal-toothed monsters. Thank you very much.
- I sometimes buy kids’ sneakers. They fit fine and are usually cheaper than adult sizes. One time I almost brought home a pair of the light-up ones. Fortunately I tried them on at the store first and realized my mistake. I could picture them torturing me at the office in those babies. So instead, I came home with a pair of Shaquille O’Neals. My husband was so proud of my Shaq shoes. LOL
- One time, my cat brought home a whole nest of baby birds and left it in front of the front door so I’d find it in the morning when I left for work. She was right. Not expecting anything to be there, I stepped right onto the nest and severely injured the baby birds. They were fatally wounded but not yet dead. I didn’t know what to do and ran into the house to get some paper towels. Why paper towels? I have no idea. I knew I couldn’t save them and I didn’t want to put them out of their misery. It was such an awful predicament to be in. Fortunately by the time I came back out with the paper towels, the decision had already been made for me as the birds were only there in body. I almost called in sick to work that day and maybe I should have because I cried off and on all day while I was there.
- Another time, I was at a lake. I heard a commotion and saw a bird was fighting with another bird in a tree awfully close to the water. I remember thinking, “Oh, I hope one of them doesn’t fall into the lake.” Sure enough, that is exactly what happened. One poor bird fell into the drink and since it wasn’t a water fowl, it couldn’t get out. I ran and got an oar from a nearby canoe and used it to slide under the bird and lift it out of the water. I put it on the ground and as soon as he was dried off and able, he flew away. I was glad I was there that day.
- I really don’t like the colors red and green together much so I don’t like a lot of holiday decor. But in nature, red and green look great together - like berries on trees or tulips in lawns or fields.
- However, I love the colors yellow and blue together. My niece’s husband tells me that yellow is the color of insanity - hmmmm.

Yikes! Escalators!! I never know when to step out on them, so I’m like waiting .. okay, Im gonna go, but nooo! I cant, gotta wait .. Im waiting for a “good” step to step on, here it comes .. oh no! That’s not it either .. Im with you, Teeni. I no like them!
I love how you’re an animal lover/saver/doctor. Shows how big your heart really is!
Oh, you described how I feel about those dang escalators perfectly. That is exactly what goes through my head! And yeah, sometimes I think my big old stupid heart is gonna bust at times - I’m such a sap.
oh Man. I totally hate escalators! I wont even use them! I remember when I was about 4 my Step Dad told me if I wasnt good, the escalator troll would know and would suck me up when we got to the top. To this day I can not ride on one! I willt ake the stairs or the elevator, or just stay on the lower level! Ugh! Oh and yellow is one of my favorite colors LOL
They really are scary - and it’s not unfounded. There have been a lot of serious accidents on those things. Yikes. I’m glad I’m not alone in liking the “insane” color! LOL
LOVE yellow and blue, sunshine and sea. my fav colours.
I can empathise with the bird thing. Even if I kill an insect I feel guilty and have to apologize lol.
Merry Christmas :o)
Oh, good - another yellow and blue lover! And yeah, isn’t it weird about the insects. My thinking is that if it’s in my house somewhere, I try to put it outside without killing it. Catch it in a cup, whatever. But that rule goes right out the window if they are found in my kitchen. Then I go beserk and might kill them on purpose. I think that has something to do with an ant infestation I had one time in a new house I had built. Now I just can’t take them in my kitchen. So any bugs reading this - take heed. Stay outta my kitchen and you’ll be just fine.
