Sammy and Pippa

Bad News: My sister’s cat, Sammy, was found dead this morning. He was more of a family cat though since he lived at my parents home for so many years. My sister said he had acted like nothing was wrong last night and didn’t have any signs of distress - he was found looking like he was asleep but with his eyes open. He had been taken to the vets just a couple days ago to be groomed so maybe he ended up having a little kitty heart attack or something. He was kind of overweight as you can see in the picture (the tiny dog is my mom’s Pomeranian, Pippa). But he was also a lovable, good hearted cat who just wanted to be petted and loved (he had a voice and he let you know, I tell you). I miss him already and wish I could pet him some more and give him a big ol’ Sammy hug. Why’d you have to go and die, ya big jerk. **sniff**

Okay, I had to make mention of his passing because it wouldn’t have been right not to mention someone (even a pet) who was such a big and loved part of my life. But now I need to concentrate on happier thoughts. So here’s the good news:

I received a care package from one of my favorite blog buddies, Beth Ellen Nagle last night - it was chock full of beautiful things that I still have to make time to photograph to show you all - I can’t wait and hopefully will have it posted by tomorrow. My photos probably won’t do her gifts justice, but to give you an idea of the lovelies her package included, take a peek at her work on her blog, the Eclectic Studio Cafe.

I got this adorable little snow bear badge from my buddy CowGalUtah. She made it herseslf and presented it to everyone on her blogroll. I’d like to honor her tradition and share this with each of you cuz it is just so darned cute and so are you!!!

heartwarming badge

In other good news - I won a contest for a $10 gift certificate at Amazon.com by participating in Chanya’s contest over at Blogstruk. I do believe this is the first time I am receiving monetary compensation for one of my creative ideas. YAY! I always say I have great ideas and I just need to find someone to pay me for them. LOL. But the contest is not over - I just (so far) participated in the way she could hold the contest and choose a winner. You all know I love games so of course I suggested a scavenger hunt at her blog. So that part hasn’t happened yet and the winner of the scavenger hunt will win a $20 gift certificate to Amazon.com. So get over there and see what it’s all about. Who can’t find a use for that gift?

Speaking of contests, my friend Witchypoo is also having a contest at her blog, PsychicGeek.com. The prize for her contest is a free reading which is described here. Somehow, I’m picturing Calamity running right over there. LOL.

Let me know if anyone joins these and wins, - I can always use more good news! ;)

LOL. Thanks, you! I needed that image in my head today of you and it really did make me smile! Thanks also for your condolences - Sammy really was a sweet pet.

Awww, sorry Teeni, at least it sounds like he went peacefully and had a long happy life.
I’m not surprised people give you stuff, your such a sweetheart! Woohoo on winning things. Winning always rocks lol. xxxx Hay

Thanks so much, Hay! I do hope he didn’t suffer - he was a creature who didn’t deserve any pain. And what a sweet thing to say! LOL. It reminds me of an episode of That 70’s Show when Jackie Berkhart says that people always just give her things. Her character always cracked me up. ;)

Aww, poor kitty. We have lost a dog and cat in the last few years and boy is it hard. They really are members of the family and we love them just as much. Maybe more ;-)
    Hugs!

I am a people person but I definitely loved Sammy more than some people. I hope that doesn’t make me too evil. But I have to be honest….okay, I didn’t get hit by lightning for saying that but I almost had a heart attack cuz the phone rang. LOL

It is very sad when a beloved pet dies. I’m glad there was a minimum of suffering. Sending warm fuzzies, so that you smile at his memory, rather than feel the hurt of his passing.
And, yay! for winning contests! I just won a custom header from RS Designs! And, I’m offerring a free reading in my own contest. Yay for free stuff! Thanks so much for mentioning it here, Teenie. If you win, you can gift it to whoever you would like.

Thanks so much for the condolences and the warm fuzzies. I can always use good thoughts coming my way. Oh, and I’m with you - YAY for free stuff. LOL. Okay, thanks, Witchypoo - I hadn’t thought of using the gift that way if I won - good thinking! ;)

Hi Lisa - thanks so much for the kind words. He really was a pretty guy with the softest satiny-est fur on his paws - I loved to rub them! But yes, the button is neat, I won some money to spend (LOVE to shop - woo-hoo!) and I love sharing contest info with my buddies - I figure it’s just as nice when one of my buddies win! :)

That is sad news! Cats are part of our families and when they die, it leaves a huge gap. It’s good of you to remember Sammy and share your memories with us.

I figured the title of my post would make people wonder whatever I’d gotten myself up to … alas, only flowers. Single men are a rare commodity at 50…

Thank you for your kind words, Kate. Yes, they do certainly leave a gap. As far as single men, well, at least you have a nice son for now. Maybe 51 is a little better for men. Who knows? We can hope! :)

Oops … I also meant to say Happy New Year! I am also trying to think up some good names for your game … will keep at it!

Aww - thanks, Kate and a very Happy New Year to you also! Great about the names - I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

I’m sorry about your family’s cat, that is always hard. I know you all will miss him.

Thanks, Heather. You are right. But I’m fortunate to have all my good buddies and their condolences. That cheers me up quite a bit!

ohhhh my gosh….I have a cat that we’ve had for 8 years, who still lives with my parents, and his name is…SAMMY!

I love my little Sammy, and I totally understand how sad that must’ve been! My heart goes out to your family, really!

On a lighter note, I remember when we bought our cat: he was a little kitten, and my brother brought him home when my parents were out of the country (LOL); we told them on the phone, and they said he was going to be returned the SECOND they came back. When my parents walked in, little Sammy walked between my dad’s legs in that cute way, my dad picked him up, took one look at him, and the rest was history ;-)
Awww. Thanks so very much, Romi! You need to post pics at your blog sometime. I’d love to see them!

Sorry to hear about Sammy. A very pretty cat. :) I really enjoy cats and know how it feels to lose one you have known for some time.

Thanks, Bethy. He really was pretty. Thanks for your understanding. I do appreciate it.

Hope that you are having a better day today?

Yes, today is better but busier. I’ve had company all day.

  18. Merri (67 comments.) on January 4th, 2008 8:23 pm

Aww that is SO sad!!! At least he wasn’t sick before (?)
and he lived happily until the last..
He looks like he was a sweet character…the BEST kind!
Wow that is a long time for a kitty to live! I thought our Mimi was pushing the limit at 20….
Good for YOU winning that contest!
Yahh book coupons are ALWAYS appreciated, aren’t they!
I have checked out her blog and will try the scavenger hunt! Thanks for letting us know!
    ((hugs))

Thanks for your kind words, Merri. Yes he was sweet. OOps. I think you misread one of the comments or something. I think Sammy was about 8 years old. Someone else was talking about human ages on here though so maybe that got mixed up. Yes, book coupons always have no problem being redeemed in my house. Good luck on that scavenger hunt! ((hugs back))

  19. Kaylee (342 comments.) on January 4th, 2008 10:05 pm

Sorry about your family cat. I am a cat lover myself and can relate to the loss of a pet.

Thanks very much, Mark. I appreciate your sympathetic words and I’m glad to know you’re also a cat lover! :) That must be why I like you so much!

  21. writerchick (47 comments.) on January 5th, 2008 9:40 pm

Aw Teens, so sorry about your SammyCat. He’s up there in kitty heaven, having all the Friskies he can eat probably.

The contests sound like fun, I may have to check those out.

    Annie

Aww. LOL. Thanks, Annie! You got me smiling again. Could you tell by his size in the photo that he loved his Friskies? Oh, I hope you win if you enter the contests! :D

  22. Diane (35 comments.) on January 7th, 2008 8:12 pm

Oh sweetie, I didn’t realise I’d missed this post. Must have been quieter online than I thought.

    It sucks when a pet dies. Sammy sounded like was adorable and I know what you mean about having a voice! And how handsome he was too! Cherish your memories and I know what you mean about really needing to give that hug. That hurts :( {{{HUGS}}}

    Thanks so much, Diane. It certainly does suck. Oh yes, thank you, I do think he was so handsome. And I especially appreciate the hugs!! {{hugs right back}}

  23. kate smudges (32 comments.) on January 8th, 2008 2:30 am

I hope 51 is a more successful year on the men front … who knows though. Maybe I’m better off writing love stories instead!!

Well, you ARE great with the love stories! But never give up hope, right? ;)
