100 Things About Me - Part 5 of 10

Posted on January 9, 2008 - Filed Under 100 Things

With this posting, we’ll be halfway done with this series. So, are you sick of me yet? Hope not, ’cause here it comes - more trivia about me! ;)

  1. If I see anyone else cry - even if it is in a movie or a cartoon, I start to cry too.
  2. I put a glass of water on my nightstand every night so that I can drink it first thing in the morning and get a head stat on my daily water intake.
  3. I sometimes miss the crackles and popping noises that you’d hear on an old vinyl record. Sometimes CDs just sound way too clear. I know that sounds weird, but it is true. I guess it is a sort of nostalgia.
  4. Chocolate candy bar pieces do not belong in ice cream - like Snicker bars or Reese’s etc. They just get all hard and frozen and practically break your teeth. I don’t like them like that. TGH strongly disagrees with me on this but he’s a man who would probably sprinkle sugar on his candy bars so…
  5. I love to crochet.
  6. I haven’t been able to go on a rollercoaster since I was 18. And that time, I had to go sit down right away because my knees locked together and I couldn’t walk when I got off the ride. My knuckles were white for days and I was mortified because I had screamed and begged the guy beside me (who I barely knew) to “hang on to me,” and to “please don’t let me fly out of this cart.” We ended up dating but never going on a rollercoaster again, btw.
  7. I think the reason that I like blue ink better than black is that blue ink has a slight perfume to it that you can catch a whiff of when you get your face close to the page as you write. Black ink just doesn’t have it. Test it out yourself. You know you’re going to. ;)
  8. I don’t see what the big deal is with HD-TV. No matter how defined and clear they can produce the picture, aren’t I still limited by my own faulty eyesight?
  9. I am a pretty good rock skipper.
  10. I have poured out my feelings by writing them in journals and I’ve filled up several of them. But then, I burn the journals so nobody will ever read them or take something the wrong way or possibly get hurt. The journals were very therapeutic and did their job when I needed them.

I totally tested out the ink thing!! And you’re right!! :-)
As for burning your journals … I agree that it’s very therapeutic to write, but aren’t you ever curious to read what you wrote years ago?? I burned some of my journals from when I was a teenager, simply because I raved on and on in them about the various guys I was in love with at the time, and once I married Rob, I reasoned that I had no need to read about those guys anymore. But other things in those journals I really wish I could re-read. Part of me will always regret burning them - not because I want to read about my ex-boyfriends, but because I want to read about my feelings & dreams & other stuff I wrote about way back then. Pity the boyfriend stuff was 90% of what I wrote! If it had been less, I probably would have kept them!

Ha! I knew people would test my blue ink theory. LOL. I understand what you are saying here Hannah. If my journals had been full of good stuff, I wouldn’t have burned them, but they really just let me pour out my pain and hurts when I was going through a very emotional sort of breakdown and I didn’t feel I could talk to anyone else, so there are a lot of things in there I wouldn’t want to relive or have anyone else try to figure out. I figure the journals served their purpose for me then and I am fine to part with them now. However, I now keep new journals that just have bits and blurbs of my writing in them and little creative sparks or ideas - many of which I end up blogging about. These journals I will probably not burn. They are the much happier kind. ;)

Love these ‘100 things’ I do that with the water by the nightstand thing too.
And yes, yuck to bits in ice cream! John loves those Snicker ones but give me raspberry ripple or just strawberry flavour any day!

Yay! I thought everyone was going to think I was crazy for that one. So I’m glad that if I’m crazy at least I’m not alone and that you are joining me on the trip, Diane! LOL

I wonder why blue ink has perfume? Does it have underarm odor problems??

Don’t forget to admit you are a secret philosophizer. ;)
I like buying records. We often go to used bookstores and I search through the records. I am try to find a variety of instrumental records for my daughter when we listen to music. We have a really cool record store in our downtown area too. Those are fun to go to and look around. :)
I don’t know why blue ink has a perfume - it must be something that just is intrinsic to blue ink? Oh, yeah - I’m a secret philosophizer. LOL. I would probably like your record store - it would be neat to poke around in there.

Ps…I think water that sits out all night tastes funny. :)
LOL. TGH and I now have filtered water and I think our water tastes great - I haven’t noticed it tasting different after sitting out though. Stop trying to make me paranoid!

We bought my Gram a record player for Christmas. She wont listen to CDs. She likes her old records, and I know when I sit and listen to them I always feel so cozy! LOL I really enjoy reading these. I have thought about doing one myself, but I dont know if I could think of 100 things about me LOL

Yay for your Gram! Records ARE cozier. ;) Ooooh, you can definitely do one of these 100 things. Do it in parts, like I am. I couldn’t think of 100 things all at once either, but I could ten at a time. :D

  6. TGH on January 9th, 2008 11:30 am

We have a cat that has been known to drink from glasses of water, so I prefer a bottle by the bed or a tall glass that is only half full. Teeni had a tall glass sitting there full this morning, this should get her thinking. :)
Toast does NOT drink my water at night! Stop trying to make me paranoid! And I like drinking out of the glass better than plastic. Now I’m going to have to look for one of those bedside water urns that come with the cup you can put over on top to cover it. Sheesh. Thanks a lot, honey!

i love vinyl. love it!! i think i love vinyl because the sound it creates is REAL sound, analogue… whereas a CD is Digital sound, and therefore not being created every time you listen to it. Everytime you listen to a piece of vinyl, it dies a little as the grooves get a teeny bit deeper

OOOh. I never thought of that. Maybe that is why they are so precious to me. Their impermanence is part of their beauty!

  8. Kami (321 comments.) on January 9th, 2008 3:20 pm

I am giggling over the cat drinking your water! You two are so much fun.

Oh and I agree with TGH. Candy bars could use a little sugar. And chocolate? In my ice cream? It’s all good!

No I don’t have a problem. What would make you suggest that?
    ;-)
LOL. Kami - you are sweet enough, your candy bars shouldn’t need any more sugar! ;)

  9. kaylee (4 comments.) on January 9th, 2008 6:22 pm

I Think TGH just proved why I never believe men ;) does that mean that my dog drinks my water too? or should I ask the smartman that? lol!

number 7 is going to make me start stiffing my pens now to see if you are right! thanks!

I do number 2 also but, get up at like 2 am and drink it LOL!

I hope tgh doesnt read this lol!

You should definitely sniff your pens and you will see that I am right! ;) Don’t worry, TGH is just trying to freak me out about the cat drinking my water.

  10. Beth Ellen (222 comments.) on January 9th, 2008 6:53 pm

Oh, that is another thing-my cat will drink from my glass. Anyways, I have found the water to take on the taste of furniture in the room if left out over night. Maybe I have very sensitive taste buds. lol Well, if you like the taste of old furniture…

And people thought MY meals were interesting! I have not tried furniture yet. I’m not really sure how I’d prepare it! LOL

  11. Beth Ellen (222 comments.) on January 9th, 2008 6:54 pm

    I like to ricochet

    LOL

  12. addictedtocoke on January 9th, 2008 7:44 pm

Oh I get the crying thing. I HATE going to funerals, because even if I didn’t know the person well (or at all), I will breakdown sobbing, its so awful.
I hate cookies and cream icecream or anything with chunks of brownie in it…ewwwww.
    Great post Teeni xxxx

So you are a sap like me and thank you for not liking that stuff in your ice cream. I was afraid I was alone on that. I mean, I like those things, just they don’t belong in my ice cream! :)

  13. kaylee2 (133 comments.) on January 9th, 2008 7:48 pm

Number 1 is me too. ITs a good that you haven’t seen me in person LOL! I cry alot but, i have an excuse when I do.No, I am not being a baby LOL!

  14. Fourleafclover (13 comments.) on January 9th, 2008 10:00 pm

This was great…. I prefer listening to records over CDs or MP3s anyday! Bravo!

Thanks, Fourleafclover! There just is SOMEthing about them, isn’t there? :)

  15. Merri (67 comments.) on January 9th, 2008 10:08 pm

YES about crying if someone in the movie cries(but I can easily blubber alone if the music gets sad or people hug or, or, anything..lol.)
I do that water thing! We have filtered water too, but sadly no kitties to worry about..
Our cat could get your water even in a tall glass by dipping her paw in and licking it and repeating the process over and over..lol
I guess it tasted better than the water in her own bowl!
    YES about vinyl….
EEK I still have my journals and I look at them in the drawer and worry..lol

Oh, that is so cute when cats use their paws like that. I love watching them do those things. If I find Toast drinking out of my glass, then I will have a nice, healthy ginger cat ready for you to have if you like. LOL. Ooh, another person who likes vinyl. YAY. :D

  16. Red (143 comments.) on January 9th, 2008 10:58 pm

Ah hon, you shouldn’t burn those journals. . Those are priceless, and someday when you’re old and grey *like 45 :-)* wouldn’t you want to reread them and reminisce?
And yes, vinyl is the best way to listen to tunes.

Hey - I’m not gonna be old and grey until at least 46! LOL. I know, the journals would have been nice to reminisce through later if they had been normal journals. But these were more just all my pain and anger and negative feelings and letting them out - I don’t want to relive that and I don’t wish it on anyone else either so I think I did the right thing. Now that I’ve gotten rid of those feelings and don’t dwell on them anymore, I feel much healthier and happier so I think they did their job. My journals from now on will be the ones I want to reminisce with and look back on. :) YES, another vinyl lover!

I relate to #2, for sure. as SOON as I rise in the morning, I drink water before doing anything else - 50.7 ounces of water, to be exact (yes, I keep track of ounces, haha). I also relate to #5 - I ADORE crocheting!! :0)

I saw your comment on my blog - here’s the explanation behind my “no-chocolate-rule”:

I love the stronger, luscious, smooth flavor of carob; and, on a health note, carob is a very rich source of calcium, magnesium, and potassium and, unlike cocoa/chocolate, is naturally sweet and contains NO caffeine and NO oxalic acid. So for health reasons as well as “preference-of-taste” (since I’ve always liked carob), I opt for carob in place of chocolate in all recipes; and my family loves it second-best to chocolate! :0)

LOL @ your exactness of the 50.7 ounces of water. :) Yay, another crocheter! Thanks for explaining about the carob rule. I am nosey at times. ;) Oh, I just read up on that oxalic acid and found out it is also in rhubarb, spinach, beets, tea, and nuts and berries. Wow. I didn’t know that. I’m always learning new things.

Totally agree with you on the blue ink. But I also find blue more calming. Maybe I’m just weird that way…

Oh, no you’re not weird. Well, if you ARE it’s not because of that because I think the color is soothing too. ;)

  19. susan (6 comments.) on January 10th, 2008 4:31 pm

    hey teeni,
records rule. i have to find some blue ink. i am really thinking you should come up for the feb. 1st opening of lovely hearts …. all the chocolate will be flowing and NOT in cold ice cream (i hate that too) and well, it would be fun to see you guys again!
on the journals front … honestly, put them in a box in the basement or attic and pull em out again in 20 years. think of the fun! the embarassment! the wise old you! ;-)
Hi Susan! I’d love to come up for the opening of lovely hearts! I’ll check with TGH and see what’s on our calendar. We really did have fun with you and Rainer so it would be great to see you again. Oh, plus, iSketch is fun too - I’ve been playing myself a few games of that on the side. Definitely - get some blue pens - don’t take my word for it. You need to smell it for yourself. LOL. Oh, gosh about the journals - yeah I can definitely imagine the embarrassment! Yikes!

  20. yourgrace2001ca on January 10th, 2008 5:25 pm

I sniffed my pens, but don’t think it works with gel pens.
Now all my markers are mad at me.

Wow - and now you have an echo too! Note to self - do NOT sniff gel pens! ;)

    Hi Teeni!
I like that crackly sound too, it makes me think of listening to records as a kid. I guess we respond to some of the first ways we remember hearing music. maybe?
I like your number 8! That is so true!
I don’t like chocolate chunks necessarily either in my ice cream, especially not chocolate chips, be/c I like for them to be melty, not frozen. Although I do like peanut butter chunks in ice cream and now, thanks to TGH I also like peanut butter itself on the top!

I think you are right about the music. We just learn to love what we are familiar with maybe? I’m curious as to how TGH got you hooked on peanut butter on top of ice cream? Did we discuss this before? I couldn’t remember mentioning that that is how he eats it. I did a search on my blog for ice cream and I can’t find it anywhere. But he says he is happy to have helped. LOL.

Coming into this to comment kind of late, Teeni, but I was reading your blog and felt that one thing I could add was info about this turntable that connects to your computer and converts record albums to MP3’s and CD’s. I gave my husband one for his birthday and have been converting some of his album collection.

    http://www.sharperimage.com/us/en/catalog/product/sku__IA002

You can probably find this cheaper. I got it at Costco for $170.

Now Mark can listen to his old albums on his ipod. The crackley-scratchiness is still there. :)
    (Love your blog.)

    Laura-in-Virginia

Hi Laura!!!!!!! It’s never too late to comment at this blog. Friendly faces are always welcome here. :) Oh, what a wonderful contraption that is. I LOVE that idea! Thanks for the link. I will show it to my hubby when he gets home.
