‘Tis the Season

for hot chocolate! It snowed here today. And there is no better way to get through the cold weather than with hot chocolate. Whether you drink dairy or are a vegetarian or vegan, there is nothing better. You can use any kind of milk and you can also use carob powder instead of cocoa! I have made it so many different ways over the years. But the last few years have been the easiest because of my Cocomotion machine. This is the ultimate winter kitchen gadget.

cocomotion

No matter what type of milk or powder you use, this machine heats the milk to the perfect temperature (never scalded) and mixes the powder in perfectly. In the picture above you can see some of the powder is still on the inside of the pitcher there but by the time it was done heating, it was all mixed in. When it’s done, you’re left with something that tastes like you had to stand over it at the stove, constantly whisking away. It’s heavenly. There’s nothing that tastes better than good old fashioned hot chocolate!

Mhmmm .. I loooves those things - both the machinery and the hot chocolate! Im on my way over for a mug!

I have to say it is one of my favorite contraptions. I scalded milk one time doing it the old fashioned way on the stove and that was unbelievably awful - I almost was put off hot chocolate for good but with this gizmo there is no chance of that happening! YAY!

Hot chocolate sounds great… but I’ll probably forget about it in the morning. (No snow here… though we did get a few ice pellets on Friday)

Oooh - ice pellets call for hot chocolate too though. LOL ;)

Wow, that looks so thick and rich… I could seriously go for some right about now! I had to move into my dorm in that snow yesterday, and it was not exactly a picnic either.

Oh, wow - sorry you had to move in that weather! Yikes. I wish I could have sent you some of my hot chocolate - this batch was made with rice milk. It would have helped. :)

    Hmmm. It’s that good? Hmmmmmmmmmmm…

Yes - it really is! I have had mine for a few years now but I think you can purchase one for about $20 now and there are other brands beside Mr. Coffee I believe. It just is a pleasure because you put in all the ingredients and can walk away while it does all the work. :)

I never knew such a gadget existed. Everything is getting gadgetized! ;) We enjoy hot chocolate now and then too.

Yes, everything is gadgetized and some gadgets are just silly but every so often there is one that is worth its weight in gold and for me, this is one of them!

  6. Kami (278 comments.) on January 28th, 2008 1:16 pm

I have never heard of this gadget! But yum! I love me some hot chocolate - what’s not to like, milk? Yum! Chocoldate? Yum!

    My sentiments exactly, Kami! :)

Cool! I love gadgets! LOL I will pretend I didnt see it tho. ;) We dont have hot chocolate often. It tends to make me sick. But it sure sounds wonderful!!

Awww - sorry to hear it makes you sick, Calamity! Is it the cocoa or the milk that makes you ill? You could definitely put carob powder in here and use a non-dairy milk. The batch I pictured was rice milk and cocoa.

Yum, now I want to make some!! It’s snowing here and has been for the last 2 days, burr!

Oh, you definitely need some then! It gets the chill out! :)

Yumm, hey its not snowing here but its 40 degrees out and raining!!!!!!! Does that count? Actually, I have been sick all day so I have been drinking Tea :) But, now I want hot chocolate :) Now I must get off of here and make some ;)
Oh sure - that counts - anything under 60 degrees is cool enough for hot chocolate. LOL. Hope you feel better.

Thank you for the wishes :)

Holy Moly! I didn’t know there was a gadget for that!

Yup - and it is actually an affordable and easy to clean one for a change. LOL

    I WANT!!!!!
    LOL
I bet that the hot chocolate IS delicious!
(and now I understand the hot chocolate thoughts sent my way..cute! )
I’d rather have the machine sent my way though…LOLOL! ;)
It really is delicious! LOL. As much as I love you, my friend, I’m not sure I could part with this machine until summertime. ;) I am too much of a wimp in the cold weather.

Now this is what I need on a day like today and tomorrow and the following day. What a great machine … and what a warming post!!

Thanks, Kate. I wish I could send you some - I know you are dealing with some super cold weather there now. Please stay warm. Hugs to you!

I have never heard of this thing before! It sounds awesome! Now you’ve got me craving a cup!

I’m surprised more people don’t know about this. The one I have is made by Mr. Coffee. :)

mmm, I didn’t know there was such a thing either! Teeni you have all the coolest gadgets.

I do have a lot of cool gadgets. LOL. I’ve been collecting them for a while. It’s funny how sometimes it’s the ones you least expect that you end up loving the most. At first I thought the concept of this one was kind of lame. But when I realized how it never scalds the milk and you don’t have to babysit it, it really was a gem of a find.

What kind of powder do YOU use?

I use Hershey’s Cocoa - it’s non processed and very rich. YUM! But I’ve used others like ghiardelli and a mixture of cocoa and carob. I like the cocoa/carob mixture better for my smoothies though. :) Those’re just my opinions and taste, mind you.

  17. Calamity (121 comments.) on January 29th, 2008 5:37 pm

Teenie, I think its a little bit of both, or maybe the combination of the two. I will have to try making it other ways. I do love this gadget! LOL

I just hope you can find something that doesn’t make you ill and that makes you feel as good as I do when I have this hot chocolate. Maybe a nice glass of wine for you? :)

Wow, now I really have seen everything. That is a brilliant machine. ;) WC

Thanks, WC! It sure has become a valued addition to my kitchen!

Mmmmm, I love hot chocolate!! But I prefer mine with heaps of frothy milk. Rob makes the BEST ones ;-) Your gadget looks very impressive!! Wow!

LOL. You probably won’t be craving one about now though, huh? I bet it will have to summer where I am before you start really wanting a hot chocolate!

  20. Penny Southwell (46 comments.) on February 5th, 2008 9:17 am

WOW - what a gadget - it sounds wonderful. I’m sure I’ve not seen anything like it this side of the water. Perhaps you should set up an export business. :-) . x

Now THERE’s an idea! I’d love to do my part in keeping my blog buddies warm! :D

  21. blaqberry (40 comments.) on February 5th, 2008 4:03 pm

I’ve been making us some soothing choco yumminess as well. You are correct. Would be nice not to have to watch it so closely while it’s warming. I don’t let the mixture get piping hot.

Does this neato gadget of yours have a temp gauge on it, by any chance??

Good question - sadly it does not have a temperature gage. I know there are newer versions than mine and I think other companies may make something similar so those may have one but I’m not sure. If I make some tonight I will stick my candy thermometer in there and see what I get for a temp for you!

  22. blaqberry (40 comments.) on February 6th, 2008 5:14 pm

Thank you! That would be great:)

    It’s mostly out of curiosity.

Sorry for the delay - I actually didn’t have hot chocolate until last night. So, I checked the temperature for you and it was 160 degrees Fahrenheit when it was done with the mixing and heating up. I will email you this info too in case you don ‘t find your way back here. :)
