100 Things About Me - Part 6 of 10 and The 7 Things Meme

Posted on February 19, 2008 - Filed Under 100 Things

Yet another installment of little factoids about me. This also satisfies a meme I was tagged for by Paige Stanton. It called for seven random things about me and since I had to post another ten anyway, I figured I’d combine them. Hope that is not cheating too much, but this is how creative I get when I get behind on my posts! LOL. Anyway, here are my seven and ten things all together.

  1. Flip Flops always gave me blisters as a kid. I think I must have walked funny or something because all my friends could wear them but I couldn’t. Just last year I tried them again and miracle of miracles, I can wear them without getting blisters. I wonder what changed?
  2. I love fresh cherries. But I cannot stand artificial cherry flavoring. It reminds of me children’s cough syrup and makes me gag.
  3. I love to wear my husband’s white sport socks. They are thick and warm and way more comfortable than my own. I think it might all be in my head though.
  4. I don’t know what the big deal about sushi is. I’ve only had the vegetarian kind. It’s okay. But it’s not something I would ever have a craving for.
  5. Artichokes are my favorite vegetable.
  6. I’d like to run an exercise class for the elderly. It would get them up and moving AND it would be good for MY ego because hopefully I wouldn’t get winded before any of them!
  7. I start a lot of things and don’t finish all of them. I hate that. I think my sixth grade teacher jinxed me because for a superlative at the end of our grade she chose me as the most likely to finish what she started. She must have made a mistake. Hrrrrmph!
  8. I’m not a big fan of the Beatles although I like a few of their songs (no rock throwing, please - I realize this is not a popular opinion, but it’s my opinion and it’s my blog - you can like them all you want at your own blog) ;)
  9. I used to have a huge crush on Mike Krushelnyski when he played for the Boston Bruins. It’s a good thing he didn’t find me and marry me. It would take too long to write my last name. I bet I’d get tired just saying it sometimes.
  10. It may be just me but I think winter weather makes things seem more surreal than other seasons. I love Spring and Summer! Fall is okay too until it starts getting cold and gray.

Now for the meme, here are the rules:

# Link to the person who tagged you
# Post the rules on your blog.
# Share seven random and/or weird facts about yourself on your blog.
# Tag seven random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs.
# Leave a comment on their blogs so that they know they have been tagged.

I will choose seven people but if I choose you and you have already done this then please just skip it - no hard feelings. That’s what I get for being late to the game! Okay, here are my tags:

Calamity - CalamityVille

CowgalUtah - Cowgal Land

Beth - Eclectic Studio Cafe

LumpyLumps - Lumpy Lump’s Blog

Pearl - Interesting Observations

Penny - And Who Cares

I can agree with you on some things! I only like fresh cherries! The rest are gross in my opinion. The Beatles I can do without, with the exception of a few songs.

I love the part about the elderly exercise!! lol

Yay - I’m not alone with the cherries and Beatles! :)

  2. Hannah (318 comments.) on February 19th, 2008 5:06 am

I wear flip-flops (we call them “jandals” here in NZ) every. single. day. Well, every day in summer and most days in autumn and spring too. I love ‘em!
And I’m a huge sushi fan … my fave is tempura prawn sushi. Yum! Vegetarian sushi is nice, but not as good as salmon, or crabmeat, or teriyaki chicken! But then I know you’re semi-vegetarian, so I probably shouldn’t be talking about meat!

And I totally think you should run an exercise class! You’d be so good at it! I can see it now … ;-)
LOL. You can talk about meat. You know it might just be the pickled rice that I have a hard time with. Which is funny cuz I like a lot of other things pickled. Like pickles, for one. ;) Yeah, and I’d want a big old whistle to blow in my elderly exercise class for the fogies who get out of line.

    Vegatarian sushi? Explain please.
I dont do flip flops .. Gots to have the Birkenstocks only!

I like to try new things so I tried the vegetarian sushi and as I said, it’s okay. It wasn’t gross. It just wasn’t something about which I think I’d ever say “Oh, you know what I really feel like having right now?” Birkenstocks. The ugliest/most comfortable shoe in the world.

Your favourite vegetable is an artichoke?? Wow.

I am not a fan of the Beatles either.

I did laugh re the exercise class. I bet a few of the old dears would give you a run for your money!!!

Sure - artichokes are good - the fresh ones are good steamed but I even love the canned hearts or marinated jars of artichoke hearts as well. Yum. And yeah, I bet there would be some old fogies who’d give me a run for the money. For those ones, I’d take away their walkers and their teeth for showing me up. LOL.

  5. Calamity (121 comments.) on February 19th, 2008 12:22 pm

artichokes, huh? Not sure I have ever had an artichoke LOL Thanks for the tag:) I will get this up probably tomorrow :D
Artichoke hearts are kind of like mushrooms in that they can take on the taste of the sauces that you serve them with. I like canned artichoke hearts with pasta and lemon/garlic sauce with chopped fresh tomatoes. Oh, I’m making myself hungry now.

I live in flip flops in the summer but sadly summer is short and sweet here…. :-(
I am not a fan of the Beatles either… all their songs seem to have been written while under the influence of some very strange substances….I am just not into that.

I think you would be a great geriatric exercise instructor! Wait! I mean that as a compliment. Really ;-)
LOL. But I want to do it NOW not when I’m geriatric. ;)

  7. sterlingcamden (4 comments.) on February 19th, 2008 5:37 pm

Vegetarian sushi? That’s the problem. You must have fresh sashimi to truly appreciate sushi.

    Artichokes rule.

LOL. Maybe that is the problem then. I will not shut the door on it yet. And yes, artichokes do rule! Yay!

  8. Beth Ellen (192 comments.) on February 19th, 2008 6:08 pm

Uh oh..I have been tagged. I will try to do it … (whistling…..)

Hmmm. Yeah, I SEE you trying to sneak out the door! ;)

  9. Beth Ellen (192 comments.) on February 19th, 2008 6:11 pm

Don’t worry, I am not a huge Beatles’ fan either. I can listen to them but I don’t own anything of theirs. I hate floppy flips. Never had a crush on Mike and artichokes are good with butter and yes it IS all in your head. ;)
    LOL.

  10. Merri (67 comments.) on February 19th, 2008 7:33 pm

I could never wear flip flops either; ALWAYS had blisters between the first two toes…
I have to wear sandles with orthotic insoles ’cause I have such wrecked feet..lol
I don’t think I like fake cherry flavour now but used to OD on cough drops that were cherry flavoured when I was a kid..lol!
LOL about his socks.. I like wearing H’s shirts, makes me feel cosy..so it’s kind of the same thing!
I think it depends where it is made, who makes it, and how authentic it is..there are tons of good japanese sushi bars around here, but it tends to be pretty expensive..
    I prefer the vegetarian kind..
I have never had fresh artichokes!
LOL good idea about the seniors class!
LOL I am not a finisher either, but don’t sweat it!
I was madly in love with the Beatles when I was 9, but no I am not crazy about their music either..lol
Yes roll on spring! (and summer..)
    LOL!

Fresh artichokes are good but a lot of work. I still like them though - they are like the vegetarian equivalent of lobster. LOL. You have to take your time and pick them apart to get at the good stuff inside.

nice list Teeni.I am ot doing the best today but, wanted to stop by and say hi :)
Well, thanks for stopping by even though you aren’t feeling well. I hope you feel better.

  12. talinan (21 comments.) on February 19th, 2008 11:51 pm

You know now that you mention it I had the same flip flop problems as you!! Strange huh? Must have been the way we walked in them as kids.

YAY! Thank you Talina! I’m glad I was not alone in that flip flop conspiracy. All my friends used to wear them and I wanted to as well, but the blisters weren’t worth it. I must have learned to walk differently because now they are no problem. Weird.

  13. Lumpy (24 comments.) on February 20th, 2008 3:19 am

Teeni, I about spit my coffee out when I read that you’d like to run an exercise class for the elderly! SO YOU WOULDN’T GET WINDED BEFORE ANY OF THEM… I was LOL because I joined a gym a few years back as I was losing weight and wanted to get into shape. I have NEVER been so disheartned as walking around the track and some old little bitty kept passing me - WTH? She was so fast. Or was I just really slow? Granted, I was new at the whole exercise thing but I seriously wanted to trip her! And, I LOVE old people. Great list and I’ll get to work on that tonight. I’m at work *wink*

Hey Lumpy! I actually love the elderly too even though I tease sometimes - you know I’d like to be one of them someday! But yeah, I’d want to trip one too if they were lapping me like that! Grrrr! LOL.

I hate artificial cherry flavoring. Always makes me cringe. I live cherries, but some reason cherry pie isn’t one of my favorites. Any other pie, though (chocolate, apple, pumpkin, key lime, etc, etc) is fine.

I was very resistant to sushi for a long time. The whole idea of fish wrapped up in seaweed just seemed weird. But, the thing is, you have to experiment with sushi. Each restaurant has its own special “recipes”. The one I go to in Raleigh NC (Misou or Mizou, not sure of the spelling) has this thing they call an “oozy roll”. It is sushi topped with shrimp and mayonnaise and it is baked in a toaster oven. It tastes fantastic and every one who I’ve ever treated to it has been surprised at how good it tastes.

Hi Tim! Welcome to the Vaguetarian Tea Room. Oh, I feel the same way about the pies too! Okay, I won’t shut the door on sushi yet - I’m just always afraid to order it because I don’t want to order something I’m not going to end up liking. I’ll have to go with a more experienced person to try some new stuff. Thanks for the idea.

  16. Tim (4 comments.) on February 20th, 2008 11:29 am

I meant “love cherries” not live.

    Gotcha, Tim! ;)

  17. Tim (4 comments.) on February 20th, 2008 3:18 pm

Thanks for the welcome. I have the same problem with ordering. Too many times I’ve decided to skip a favorite menu item, try something new, only to be disappointed. I will say this though. I’m not a fan of all sushi. I’ve just managed to find about 5 or 6 different kinds that are delicious. But fish eggs and eel I usually have to pass on.

I get it. With my personal tastes it would be hard for me to make a generalized statement like that I loved all Italian food too. Although I do love most that I’ve tried there are some things that I don’t want to touch. LOL. So I totally get you there. :)

I am here - bit late to collect my tag teeni - thanks ;-)
I will get my thinking cap on but it may be a few days before it gets done. I’ll be back another day to read it properly - all I’ve seen so far is you are not a great fan of the Beatles - I agree - in fact the less of them the better. x

I’m glad to hear I’m not alone on the Beatles thing - I think maybe we got a little too inundated with them and I hated it when you coudn’t listen to a half hour of radio without one of their songs coming on. LOL. And you take all the time you need - no stress on this. :)

  20. #3 on February 25th, 2008 3:48 pm

I have to agree with you on the whole artificial cherries things. I had a frightening experience as I kid when I took a bite into what I thought was going to be a nice solid chocolate, only to find it gushed out a disgusting mushy cherry-like substance surrounded in red goo! Cordial cherries are what they are called, I think. Those things are nasty and if anyone buys me chocolates to this day I will pinch, sniff and break each one open to be sure I never bite into the likes of one of those again. If you add more to your list…don’t forget Circus Peanuts candy. I know you hate those as much as me! : ) Oh yeah, Mike was a cutie, but I would have sooo run away with Andy Moog if given the chance!

I liked Mike better than Andy but Andy was cute too. Ewww - circus peanuts. Bleeecchhhh. *gagging sounds*

  21. Penny Southwell (46 comments.) on March 6th, 2008 11:40 am

I Finally got around to this teeni …

I’ll be right over to check it out! :)
