The Story Game 2 Results or the “Adventures of Marie Cambridge”
Posted on February 29, 2008 - Filed Under Story Game, Uncategorized
I apologize for the delay in this story as I didn’t chase it around as quickly as I did last time. I hope you enjoy it. (Hey, it was a collaboration so you can take some of the blame if you don’t like it, LOL!) Personally, I think this one is better than the first! What do you think?
Update: Apparently, I have a need to keep proving how human I am to you all. It appears I missed a few people in this round of the story game. I can only think that what happened was I was keeping a running list of people to send it to in a Word document but then forgot to go back to the original post and add the newest names that signed up to participate, so my apologies to everyone on that. To make it right, what better thing to do than to start a new story game, including the people I missed first and I’ll include the rest of the people who signed up for that last one as well. Hope everyone is okay with that. Besdies, I am all curious as to what happens to Marie next! :) For those of you who missed it, the original “signup” post for the game was here.
===========================
It was neither a dark nor stormy night, yet Marie Cambridge could sense some sort of electricity in the air. She swung her stockinged feet from the top of her desk back into her red Manolo Blahnik booties in the space below her desk. It was quiet here in her private investigating office. Her receptionist and clerks had left for the day more than two hours ago. Still, she anticipated something imminent. As if on cue, the telephone suddenly
rang. She answered. It was the call that Marie had expected - somebody looking for some answers to…
help them make the all-important decision. She knew what came next. With a deep breath…
… she hung up the phone, and hugged her shoulders. A heavy sigh escaped her. She bit her lower lip as thoughts began to race through her mind. Her chest …
ached, and she knew her heart was breaking. “Marie, you dolt! How could you have been so blind and so utterly stupid?” She chastised herself. She sat down at the table and put her head down as the pain washed over her. She went over and over the last few months in her mind. The signs were all there. But she had never seen them. Now all she could do…..
was walk out that door. Where she was going she had yet to figure out. But Marie wasn’t going to let it take over. She was going there right now to…
..the airport and pick up the plane ticket that had been left for her at the
flight counter.
She hailed a cab in the busy street and soon they arrived.
She dashed in and found the ticket counter for Air France (as the
instructions in the envelope had instructed her)
The agent at the counter smiled when Marie gave her name and said,
“Yes we have the ticket here, you are certainly very lucky to win such a
wonderful prize!”
“I know, I just can’t believe it!”, Marie exclaimed, “now can YOU tell me
where the flight is headed?”
The ticket agent smiled again and said, “Didn’t they tell you? It is for
Paris!”
Marie was VERY excited to hear this, as she hadn’t been there since she was
18….
As Marie busied herself with the the ticket agent, she was completely unaware of the man 4 people behind her in line. Dressed in a dark suit with dark sunglasses, he looked like many of the other passengers. An unassuming buisiness-type person. But behind the glasses, he watched Marie fumble with excitement as she handed the attendant her bags. He watched her scurry off to her departure gate. He looked down at his own ticket - Flight 197 to Paris. Everything was going according to plan.
Marie carefully stowed her carry on in the compartment above her head and marvelled at the size of the Cross-Atlantic jet she was in. She sat in her seat and made small talk with the young man beside her, an Armenian Engineer. Meanwhile, the man in the dark glasses sat only a few rows behind her, watching her…
and surreptitiously making notes about her on his Blackberry. Marie was too busy daydreaming about finally meeting Andre after all the months of chatting online, to notice that she was being watched. What would she think of Andre when they finally met? And more to the point, what would he think of her? Her thoughts were preoccupied with imagining their meeting at the airport and she was only half listening as the Armenian Engineer waffled on about his . . .
… pet llama (Mildrid) and how smelly she was getting. He loved that old
girl so much but just didn’t have the time to care for her properly.
Marie was absentmindedly agreeing with his rambling, she would say “Oh,
I know what you mean”, “yea” and “that’s crazy” without actually
listening. Before she knew it she had a greed to care for Mildrid! What
was Andre going to think of a stinky llama and where was she going to
keep it? Her chic condo was not the best place for a llama so she
grabbed….
the telephone book to see if there were any llama kennels in the area.
After all, this was New York, where you can find EVERYTHING. So she
wasn’t surprised to see 5 listings for llama kennels. She chose the one
closest to her condo which was called . . . .
. . . .The lucky llama; bed, breakfast and breeders of lovely llamas. Unfortunately they didn’t have any openings due to the llama convention that was going on this weekend at The Garden. She checked the next listing and called the Ewe me and the llama between; that specializes in the virgin wool preservation of pets in New York. Marie giggled a little to her self as the other end of the line was answered. “We treat your virgins like they are our own…how can I assist you today?” She made all the arrangement and booked her little friend for a long comfortable stay. As she hung up the phone she plopped back down on the couch and wondered what adventures that tomorrow would bring her way.

I loved this one! Great job, Teeni.
LOL - Yes, this is my favorite so far!
Oh my. too funny. Some how I missed this round, but you guys all did a fantastic job. Still chuckling…
Everyone did a great job this round. Sorry you missed it but I’m thinking of starting a new Marie Cambridge series as this one went so well. So don’t worry, I’ll definitely rope you into some future ones!
Oh, why am I being moderated? xxxx
You were signed in with a different email, my dear. I almost didn’t recognize you!
Hmmm, I never got this! I swear I put my hand up, but no email arrived …
Nevermind, I have enjoyed reading the story anyway!
Oh NOOOOOOOOoooo. Holy fuzzbuckets! I went back and checked the original post where people signed up and that was the Hey That’s My Fish Post and I see that I missed you and a couple of other people as well! This is terribble. I’ve been trying to figure out what happened - I think I copied most peoples’ names over to a Microsoft Word document that I kept adding to as people finished their pieces and then I’d send it to the next person. But I think at the end of that original post were some newer sign-ups that I never moved over! Hannah - my biggest apologies to you and the others that I neglected this time around! I’m starting up a new game right now and starting with the people I missed. Sheesh. Why must I keep proving to everyone just how human I am???!!!
haha very funny. I should have written a longer section though shouldn’t I? Mine was too short. Ooops! Not like me to be too brief.
Great idea anyway. It is good that there are people like you around in blogland who get us to do all these things - makes blogging a lot more exciting.
Thank you for organising it.

And dangit, Teeni! You aint supposed to act human, ya know! Your’e supposed to be SuperTeeens! Making no mistakes whatsoever!!!! Tsk tsk!
Do it again, Stan!
Thanks, Red. You made me feel better. I’m already on it and starting up another story game. Keep your eyes peeled on your mailbox!

This was a great story - I enjoyed it. I don’t think I saw your post for signing up for this - I must be more vigilant so I don’t miss the next one. The first one was fun.
Sorry Kate! I do tend to post quite a bit. I can’t help it - I’m full of chatter and the blog lets it out.
So sometimes you have to scroll back a few posts to make sure you don’t miss anything. LOL. But I will put you on the list for the current one - I already have another started going around!
Okay I must have been on the dark side of the moon, I completely missed that you were doing this again…. maybe it was when I was in the Bahamas? If only there were more time in the day to have read all the posts I missed!

I’ll be waiting for the next one!
It’s okay, Kami. I do post a lot and I actually do think you were away for most of this last one. But actually another is on it’s way around. So keep your eyes peeled. I’ll e-mail you with it soon.
