Sign Up for the Story Game
Posted on April 10, 2008 - Filed Under Games, Just for Fun, Story Game
I am dying to find out what happens next to Marie Cambridge! I want to start another round but first I have some questions.
For my newer readers, the Story Game is an interactive story where the writers only get to see the few lines above theirs before adding to it themselves. It works best when each person adds at least 2 and half lines, leaving off at an incomplete idea for the next person to finish. I start off the story and then “moderate” it by emailing it to each writer so that they can only see the few lines before theirs. Then I save it all in a separate document to post all together after each person has had a chance to write something.
The game is open to any regular commenters at my blog. Since I have one of the worlds’ worst memories (it may actually BE the worst, but I can’t remember, LOL), it would be great if anyone who would like to participate could “sign up” by commenting on this post.
I am also looking for ideas on how best to do this in the future. I could really use your opinions on the following items.
Should I have one permanent sign up sheet and always include the same people (adding new ones if they’d like to participate)? If someone can’t participate within the next two or three days they can just let me know and I’ll skip them this time around.
Or should I have a separate sign up sheet each time with the same two or three day turnaround?
Is two - three days enough time for each person to be “holding” the story before it goes to the next person? It can take a long time to shuttle it around sometimes so I’m not sure if more time for turnaround would be good.
Any other ideas or suggestions?
So, you up for a game? ![]()

OKAY I SIGN UP LOL!
Okay, you’re in.
“Is two - three days enough time for each person to be “holding” the story before it goes to the next person?”
I dont check my email everday! Thats the only thing!
Everytime signup makes sense. What if someone is offline? You don’t want to hold the fun up. Sign me up!
You’re signed up and based on what everyone is saying, I think we’ll do a signup each time. Thanks for responding.
Yes, I agree, it’s probably best to have people sign up each time, in case they are busy, offline or whatever.
Sign me up!
2 to 3 days is quite reasonable for the committment on this one I feel:-)
Pst - Love your meebo girl, very stylish. Those boots! I want them! I think I might need a shoe/boot intervention;-)
You’re signed up! LOL - Stop lusting over those boots! I use the red boots and a side ponytail with slightly redder hair than my normal meez to indicate when it is Marie Cambridge. So that is supposed to be her up there right now.
I’m in - but you knew I would be, right?
I think 2-3 days is plenty long enough. And if you sign everybody up each time, it will be easy enough to manage. If they don’t respond within the time frame, simply move on to the next person.
Nothing wrong with setting out some rules & conditions, LOL.
It looks like we are thinking the same - if someone doesn’t respond in the time frame then I’ll simply move it to the next person. Thanks for the opinions.
Yeup - you’re in! And it’s nice to be right sometimes!
Somehow I missed the last lot so sign me up
Okay - You are signed up and not missing it this time!
I think it is best to have a new list each time.
Usually 2 or 3 days would be fine. For various reasons I don’t generally announce when I am going to be away on my blog so I guess then it might sit for a while but I am not away very often (sadly!)
I would like to do it again.
Oh, I agree - nobody should announce if they are going to be away for a bit. Sorry you don’t get to go away often but I’m sure some things will come up for you and then you’ll get to blog all about it for the rest of us!
I’m glad to have you on board again!
I’m not a gamester but please include me, this sounds neat
I’m including you and at least this game isn’t really a typical game. I think you’ll like the results Lumpy! I always do!
I would like to try this again. Thanks.
Sure thing, buddy! You’re in! And you’re welcome. And thank YOU!!!
I would love to participate…sign me up! I watch my email closely. I’ll try to get anything you send me back to you the same day:)
Oh - AWESOME! I really did hope you would join in, Bobby!
I want in!! I’m back up and running again (just don’t check my blog until next week!! lol). Looking forward to it!
But I’m not giving you any advice right now, so best of luck to you!!
Okay - you’re in! I’ll take your word for it that you are back up and running again - but no pressure on the posts. Take your time. I’m just glad to see you back around! You have been missed. Hugs to you!
TEENI: Please count me in!
1…2…3…YOU’RE IN!
Teeni,
I’d love to do this if you have room for me.
IF there wasn’t room, I’d build another chair just for you! You’re IN!
Hi Teeni,
I haven’t been checking in often lately … I am so glad that I did because I’d love to do another Marie Cambridge!
Woolly Thyme is a wonderful groundcover … spreads rapidly and is a great place for ladybugs to sleep upon!
Well, I’m glad you checked in too! I definitely want you in the story game! YAY team!
Oh, yes, that would be a great groundcover! I haven’t seen much of it around here - but now I’m going to keep my eyes open for it.
Hi - there is an award for you over on
http://sidmouth-town.blogspot.com/2008/04/chatty-bloggers-award.html
if you’d care to become one of the chatty bloggers circle of friends.
I certainly would! Thank you so much! I just saved myself a copy of the award and will post about it soon!
I am game and I like how you are doing it…
You could also make it a carnival type thingy where someone starts the story and posts it on their blog, then links to the next person who will be writing the next part.. they post their portion on their blog and so on… Just another way ti could be done that might save you some trouble…
I can’t wait!
Thanks, Talina - you are in! Oh, so that is how a carnival thing works! You know, I had been wondering but didn’t know who to ask. I am going to actually think about that a bit and see if I can come up with a good way to work that in for next time. I love how creative my fellow bloggers are and how I’m always learning stuff from you.
Is it too late to sign up? If not, sign me up. If it’s too late, I’ll catch up with you on the next round.
Definitely NOT too late! Glad to have you, Wendy. I was hoping you’d join!
I want to be in on it everytime! If I cant do it, I will send it back to you and let you know! Does that work for you?
That works for me!
Can I play too?
You sure as hell can! I’m so happy to have you join in! I’ll send you an email when it’s your turn!
