Teeni’s Tips - Lists
Posted on April 21, 2008 - Filed Under Teeni's Tips
Ah, my little Kleenex wasters (nieces and nephews),
Of course you all know by now that you should have a permanent marker in the kitchen and probably a running shopping list as well.
But what you don’t know is that your frugal little auntie thinks a good way to save paper is to begin your list at the bottom of the paper (especially if you have one of those long-ish shopping lists magnetized to your fridge). Then you can add your items to the list, working your way up and only have to tear off the bottom portion of the sheet when you go food shopping.
Sometimes you don’t always have a long list and this will allow you to get more out of your shopping list paper! It used to drive me crazy when I’d start at the top of the page and have to rip it off to go shopping well before the sheet was filled. Well, no more! Hey, this may not seem like a big deal to you, but every little bit helps and it’s YOUR future (at least according to that song, anyway).
With hugs and love from your Auntie Teeni ![]()

Fabulous idea Teeni!
I actually use my old grocery shopping receipts from the till, I just turn them over and voila! a big long peice of paper for my new list! Then I tear off what I need and save the rest for the next list. I buy a lot at once so the receipts are quite long
Oh, that’s a great idea too! Way to save paper, Kami!
you are scary smart!
Well, you’re half right anyway! Heehee. Especially when I first wake up in the morning. LOL
haha that is such a logical and seemingly obvious thing to do. I never thought of doing it though. I shall do it from now on. My children will probably think I have gone bonkers for a few weeks until they get used to it.
Sometimes the simplest things are overlooked but since I am good at simple things (and ONLY simple things these days, LOL) I tend to be better at thinking of them.
HA! I do that same thing as Kami does!
Smart minds… smart minds indeed.
Heehee. CopyKamicatter!
Haha, great idea! Not something I’d ever thought of, as I use scrap paper for my shopping list (recycled print outs from my work pile, usually) but this is a great tip. Thanks, “Aunty”!
You’re very welcome! I figure when I post the tips for my nieces and nephews that it may help someone else out too. You never know.
Clever Auntie Teeni. You see, that’s why we love your blog
Awww, thanks, Diane!
That’s a good idea, never even occured to me. But I do use scrap paper for my lists, or old junk mail. I’m a little obsessive compulsive about list making too, JRK always finds little pieces of paper with to do lists or gocery lists around the house.
LOL. I have lots of scraps all over the house too. No wonder i keep forgetting stuff!
Never thought about it before. Now that you pointed it out, I’m sure to discover other things to do to save and not waste that are right under mah nose!
AWESOME!
Love that you are frugal!
Thanks, Lumpy! If you discover good ideas, be sure to share them!
Good idea but, ummmmmmmmmm no grocery shopping for me for awhile
You shouldn’t have to anyway, you’re just a kid. Plus, no heavy lifting for you.
I shop once a week and somehow my list which is attached to the fridge so other people can add what they want to it, always ends up full to the point where I have to add things to the back of it. It’s a great idea though, for people who don’t fill their lists. I never would have thought of it.
My lists are generally short since I go out a couple times for fresh produce now that I eat so many dang vegetables. LOL. And yeah, I think of some uncommonly simple things.
But hey, simple is good. LOL
Hey I like that idea!
How come you are so SMART, Miss Teeni??
Love these tips!
(hey do you want a scrabulous game??)
Let me know!
I would love a game, but it is true that I promised one to Kaylee first. I will start one for us as soon as I can, okay? Thanks for asking me - I enjoy playing.
I don’t make lists. I memorize everything and go to the store and forget most of it.
But yes, that is a good idear.
I can barely remember my own name. Sheesh. I gotta write everything down and then have TGH remember when I wrote it.
Hey Merri I am in line for the Scrabulous game first
Don’t worry - I didn’t forget you. I’ll start one up unless you remember how to do it.
maybe im just getting too mature, but thats actually a damn good idea… 10 years ago i would have laughed at you

p.s. rss feed still doesnt seem to be alerting people right
I know what you are saying. I would have laughed at me too. Actually, that’s not true. I would have seriously been hurt if you laughed at me then (sensitive, that’s me) but today I’d laugh right along with you (still sensitive, but don’t take myself so seriously anymore). And I realize that these ideas are simple, but I think that is why sometimes people don’t think of them! LOL. Sometimes life gets so crazy you just can’t see the forest for the trees, you know? We all need to slow down a bit and remember the simple things.
Oh, well, Mr. Slyde. RSS feed or not, you won’t keep me from visiting your site!
you are SO right!
And i havent given up on the RSS.. i just need to find an expert who can explain whats wrong to me…
the RSS is valid, and feeders can read it, but it only seems to be updating correctly, if you unsubscribe and re-subscribe.. new stories arent getting updated for some reason..
hmm. Well, I wish I could help more with that techy stuff but I am sooooo not a Techie anymore. And I feel bad because I have been pushing you to get a feed! But again, I will keep visiting you every so often (it helps when you comment here to remind me, too - LOL).
Doh! Genious!
Yeah, I like to think that about myself sometimes. I’m the Genius of Simple.
That’s a good idea!! I usually don’t make a list. I just go to our small town store and walk around. If I see it and know I need it I’ll grab it or just buy something els on sale.
You are lucky! These days if I don’t make a list, I forget how to get home! LOL.
No you start it up
Okie-doke! Keep your eyes peeled on your email.
Ha, ha… great tip! Was this earth day inspired? It was sort of random but fun. I totally waste grocery list paper!
Well, it wasn’t really Earth Day inspired so much as it was inspired by the fact that I’d like to save my nieces and nephews from overlooking easy and simple ways to live easier and more frugally. I have a whole series of Teeni’s Tips in the Tea Room Subjects box and most of them also happen to be earth-friendly if you think about it.
*smack* I coulda had a V-8!
Why didn’t I think of that?
LOL. Because it takes a simple mind like mine to think of these things! heehee.
that’s a great idea. i think my mom does the whole ripping thing too because she uses the long, thin magnetized pad. what i do is reuse paper (8×11) that I have printed out and don’t need anymore, cut it into 4 squares and keep a pile on my desk. i write on the blank sides. the squares are small, i jot down notes easily (or grocery lists).
That’s great - I’m glad to see so many people reusing the printer paper. It has always been a peeve of mine about how much gets wasted. Like even those test pages that automatically print when you switch printer cartridges! Grrrr!
This is such a GREAT idea! I’m guilty of writing half a list and then tearing the whole page off. I won’t do it anymore, though. Thanks for the tip!
It’s just so simple, I think, that we overlook these things sometimes.
This might just be one of the greatest “tips you didn’t know” posts ever written…it’s a small thing but total genius at work!!
Thanks, Romi! I’d like to think I contributed a bit to help us all in our frugal/earth-saving endeavors!
Great point and idea. We have a dry erase board magnetized to the fridge, so we can just reuse it over and over. Plus I have my nifty little notepad thingie that a friend sent me.

Awww, you’re smart AND sweet Annie!
