I love this picture (click to biggify) because it has some of my favorite things in it - candy. But not just any candy - peanut m&ms! And a game, of course! This one is chinese checkers and is another example of positive thinking.
You see, I had mentioned to my parents that I wanted a good chinese checkers game because the old one I had was a cardboard game board with holes in it and marbles. The marbles were too close together and whenever you went to pick one up, your (my) big fat fingers would knock the other marbles out of place. Also, it was difficult to distinguish the color of the marbles so it would get all confusing when they started passing each other in the middle. Anyway, I was under the impression that my dad was going to actually make me a new game since he is now retired.
It wasn’t long before my parents called me and told me that the board game was finished so the next time I visited them I could pick it up. Well, the next time I was there, this game was waiting for me. I looked it over and fell in love with it, but I knew my dad hadn’t made it. They then explained to me that he had intended to make me one, but they had gone to a local flea market and found this one for only $5! Who could pass that up? Although not easy to see in this picture, the board is easily 15″ across, so it’s a big set, with nice, chunky, easy-to-grab pieces that fit perfectly into their slots and are not easily knocked out of place. So, things may not always happen the way you think, but they still happen!
Oh, and since that board is so big, you now know that that is a pretty decent sized bowl of m&ms. Just another reason for my happiness.
LOL
I hope all those who celebrate Memorial Day are having a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and all those who don’t celebrate it are having just as wonderful a weekend!

Chinese checkers + M&Ms = happiness :0)
Have a lovely Memorial Day weekend, Teeni!
Thanks, VeggieGirl, you too!
Now that is a wicked good reward for making it to the middle, innit?
Yes, I love peanut m&ms. Get outta my way, cuz I’m winning those babies! LOL
haha looks great. what is memorial day?
Hi RB! Although I said Happy Memorial Day, really the holiday is a serious one. We Americans are happy for the freedoms we have, but we take this day to remember those who have perished in military service. Many people also choose this day to visit the cemeteries of loved ones whether they were in the military or not. More information on Wikipedia here.
I have that game in my Hoyle Board game pack.
I can
spendwaste hours on that game. Fun!You should switch the marbles with the M&M’s. The winner gets to eat all the loosing players pieces when the game is over.
Oh, I like the way you are thinking, MacBros!
It would be tempting to cheat and eat the playing pieces.
But then again lots of things are tempting to me.
I hear ya, Evyl. Why is it so dang hard to be good? LOL
I definitely like the M&M part of this game! I think my competitive streak would really come out playing this one …
Oh yeah, those M&Ms are definitely worth competing for.
Funny though, I really don’t care much for the ones without peanuts.
Lol, and it’s so pretty!! That in itself is worth it
It definitely made for the most colorful picture I’ve ever taken, I think. Of course, after I knew I had a good shot, I knew it would be safe to help eliminate some of those M&Ms, if you know what I mean.
Thats what i call heaven LOL!
Me too, Kaylee! Definitely.
You’ll have to move the bowl to play right?
Why don’t you play with color M&M’s??
Yes, I’d definitely move the bowl to play, but they looked so pretty in the middle for a picture. And to be honest, I never thought about playing with the M&Ms as pieces until I started seeing the comments on this post. My readers are so creative. LOL
It’s really cool that this is a game, but I would just ruin the game and eat them all..ya I’m not a team player
It’s okay, Romi! The M&Ms are not really part of the game. They just happened to be at my mom’s house at the same time as the game was and I thought they would look cool together. There were considerably less of those M&Ms by the time I left my mom’s house, though.
Teeni, how many blogs do you read? How big is your Bloglines roll? How many of them are active? How many blog posts do you read in a day? And do you make a point of commenting on every one?
Just curious! You’re my steadfast commenter!
LOL. I read a LOT of blogs. At this time, I have 83 blogs in my reader, most are active, and I have a few more I’d like to add. I did in the beginning try to comment on every new post but I can’t physically keep up with that as my buddy list has grown, so I will be slowing down, I’m sure and will probably post about it soon. But I honestly DO try to make a point of visiting and commenting on the posts of bloggers who were nice to me in my early blogging days. You were one of them. I’m loyal like that. And you do have a wonderful blog, with wonderful pictures and wonderful tastes and even when we differ, I still respect and admire what I see when you post!
Oh, and I don’t use Bloglines - just google reader. But I may change that if I find something better. I do have to update my blogroll and do some spring cleaning there though as there are some blogs that have gone inactive. I’ll be doing that in the next few days. I hope you don’t mind my chattiness by my comments, but I also like my buddies to know when I’ve been by, rather than just lurking.
Anyway, thanks for asking.
Mmmmm. M&M’s are delish! I have a 7lb bag of them sitting next to me on the couch right now! Breakfast of CHAMPIONS!
Oh, that sounds goooood!
LOL! Teeni what a nice gift from your parents!
I think my eyes would go to the big bowl of M and M’s too!
I hope that you had a nice long weekend!
Thanks, Merri. I hope you did as well. The weather seems to finally be turning more spring-y here.
Oh I’m a big fan of peanut m & m’s too! i can’t stop eating them when they’re around!
i thought alot about my granddaddy today, on memorial day.
i hope your day was good today teeni!
Hi buddy!
I’ve also been thinking about my loved ones who are no longer here. That lead to me thinking about things I love and that of course, lead to me thinking about m&ms.
How neat!
But them candies wouldnt last too long in my presence.
There were a lot less of them when I left my mom’s house.
playing with m&ms at stake is a wonderful idea!!!
it’s been soooo long since i played chinese checkers…this post makes me all nostalgic.
I know what you mean! That’s why I love board games so much - the nostalgia and memories of good times past.
and the winner eats the treats! MMmmmmm
Seems like a great prize to me!
Ooooo…I love that game board. I have an old metal Chinese checker board with marbles. Imagine my frustration when my daughter and I play the game in bed with the marbles rolling all over. And peanut M&M’s…mmmm…that makes it ever better (but I may have to change the ‘no eating in bed’ rule)!
Wow - it must be hard to play in bed - I had a hard time keeping the marbles still while playing on a flat surface - that is why I really like this new set - no marbles! LOL. But yes, peanut M&Ms make everything better, I think.
Hmm - maybe you should post your Chinese checker board and we can start a new meme.
Oh, glad you have plenty of m&m’s girl- I’ll bring the java, you supply the m&m’s and they can melt in our mouthes as we drink our hot Joe!
Whoot! Whoot! I never played Chinese checkers!
What? Never played Chinese Checkers? Only the easiest game to learn and the funnest to play for all it’s simplicity. Bring lots of Java, I’ll bring lots of m&ms. We need to get you playing!
That is the single best use of a chinese checker board I have ever seen. Big points for creativity Teeni. Now where did I hide those peanut M&M’s?
I realized something cool - if the brown m&ms were purple, then all the colors would match the chinese checker board!
