Cool Fruity Treat

It’s the warm season in the U.S. and with it come some hot days which necessitate the indulgence in special cool treats. One of my favorite simple treats is tantalizing to the tongue and guaranteed to temporarily lower your temperature It’s an icy Raspberry-Lime blended drink.

ingredients

I’m sure there are many recipes for Limeade out there. This is just how I do it. I make it from scratch using just limes, filtered water and sweetener. I use organic sugar for my sweetener but you could use agave nectar or stevia or any other sweetener. I usually make up a two quart or 2 litre pitcher at once so I use the juice from three limes (about 2/3 cup, a little less is fine) and put that in the pitcher first. Then, I usually use between 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of sugar dissolved into some water warmed on the stove top (I don’t boil it, just get it warm enough to dissolve the sugar and I don’t like things too sweet when I know I’m going to be adding fruit because the fruit has it’s own sweetness - but you can experiment with the amount of sugar to get it to your liking).

When it is cool enough, I pour the cooled sugar and water mixture into the pitcher and then fill the rest of the pitcher with cold water and stir it up with a long handled wooden spoon. Then refrigerate - it’s great to drink just as is. But to make something good even better? Take a handful (1/4 to 1/2 cup) frozen organic raspberries, put them in a Magic Bullet blending cup and then fill the cup with limeade and whiz it up (you could easily do this in a regular blender if you don’t have a Magic Bullet). Stick a big straw in it and enjoy. Oh. My. Gawd. It is heaven.

Of course, you could use strawberries or a mixture of berries instead of raspberries and you could use lemons instead of limes, but really the lime and raspberries are awesome together. Also, what a beautiful, unadulterated, natural shade of red it turns out to be. No artificial colors here.

So yes, it’s simple. But sometimes simple is better, don’tcha think? ;)

    Sounds almost perfect.

    Add tequila.

    NOW it’s perfect! ;)
LOL. Yeah, it would be good that way too. But then I could only drink one! ;)

Oh, and I have to tell you about the t-shirt I saw last week. I was at a concert where all the performers wore custom t-shirts with their names or nicknames stenciled on the back.

    One guy was “Vagitarian”.

I thought it said “Vaguetarian” at first, but then I saw that his number was 69. Makes sense. ;)
Yikes! If I ever get T-shirts made I will make sure they include “Tea Room” on them.

Sometimes simple IS better - that drink looks delish!

Oh, it is soooo good! I would make these for all my friends, whether they be veggie or meatasaurus. Oh, and after reading these comments I would have to add a little alcohol for the drunkasaurases. LOL.

Mmmm… That looks so dang good, now I am sad the blender is packed away. :-(
Soon, friend. Hang in there. And the best thing is you can use frozen berries so you can make these all year round. So you will be able to make them as soon as you get unpacked.

Oh wow, that looks amazing!!!! I will have to try making this in the summer (can’t get berries here at the moment, too cold).

I think you and your family would like these, Hannah! You can use frozen berries if you can get those. I used frozen organic, but you could use fresh and a few ice cubes in the summer.

I bet it would be good with some tequila in it. :) Seriously, it sounds really good.

Uh-oh. I now have to count you as one of my drunkasaurus friends. LOL. Just kidding.

YUM. We are so far away from summer here (I just looked out the window to discover a downpour on it’s way in) but I could pretend for the sake of this drink.

LOL. Sorry, Leaf. I can understand not really craving one of these in the cold weather. But remember to make one when you have warm weather - you will love it!

Mmmmmmmmmm sounds so good Teeni! I have seen the infomercial for The Bullet and have wanted one for so so so long! I haven’t gotten one because they are too expensive. It’s official, I’m jealous!

I have a category for my Magic Bullet I think just because I love the thing so much - it’s worth every penny I paid for it - I got it for about $60. But most things can just be made in a normal blender as well. The Magic Bullet is great for making a single serving size of something and is quick and easy so I use it a LOT.

    what a cooler!
we need more of that here in the tropics. :)
Oh, I bet you have some great recipes to share. Maybe sometime when you are settled you can put some together in a post? :)

    i want one :)
I think you’d love it too Kaylee. And they are healthy for you - berries have lots of antioxidants, plus there are vitamins in the lemon or lime juice. It doesn’t taste healthy though. Yum. :D

I wonder how it would taste with Stevia. I don’t like using Splenda. But I don’t want the sugar with my WW. Too many points.

Oh, I bet Stevia would work wonderfully! I don’t know if it dissolves in warm water though - never tried it but I think it does because they sell it in packets for your coffee and tea and stuff. So I would definitely give it a shot!

Oh YUM! Roll on summer….this is gonna be my drink!

Put a little umbrella in it with your name on it so I don’t accidentally steal yours! :D

Stopped over by way of a-mum’s interview…and I think I’ve seen you over at Annie’s too.

Love this, especially since you have it tagged gluten-free (I’m celiac…so I lurve anything that I can actually eat).

If you get some general measurements up somewhere, it’d make my little gluten-free heart happy.

Oh, welcome to the Vaguetarian Tea Room, MJ! I’m so glad to have you. I know how it stinks to have to have a restricted diet so I’m glad to help you if I can. For general measurements of a single serving of this drink, use about 12 ounces (cup and a half) limeade and blend with 1/4 cup of frozen raspberries. And I think I included the simple directions and measurements for the pitcher of limeade in the post above. Simple and yummy. Fabulous for hot weather. Enjoy! Now I’ve got to go check your place. I’ve been wondering what a “notahousekeeper” does. ;)

I am so making this! Now I have to go check out Magic Bullets on e-Bay.

These really are so good. I was craving them when I didn’t have the ingredients to make them. I hope you can find a Magic Bullet - but a blender will do if you can’t. I wish I could give everyone a Magic Bullet though. I love them so much. Oh, why didn’t I get born as Oprah? Then I WOULD give everyone one!
