Slow Humans?

Posted on July 7, 2008 - Filed Under Just a Teeni Thought

These are some of the things my mind gets into when I let it wander too much.

Ever wonder how come viruses can evolve so quickly and become immune to antibiotics but we humans can’t evolve quickly enough to become immune to the viruses and diseases?

That really pees me off.

    Interesting thought!

I have some interesting ones once in a while. LOL.

I think that’s because we don’t let our body’s immune system to fight off most viruses on it’s own, but instead take medicine. Our immune system can only get stronger by fighting it on it’s own. Evolution. Survival of the fittest.

I don’t know about all that survival stuff but I wonder if you might have a point about not allowing our bodies to fight it. Maybe our first response of using drugs is too strong.

Hmm. Very interesting! It also makes me think how by the end of summer mosquitos can still sttack you no matter how many layers of bugspray you have on. Just one of those things I guess.

Yeah, that is kind of scary to think that you have to continually find stronger bug spray. And who knows what ill effects the bug spray has on other things, not to mention us? -Eeep!

Who said we are evolving? :)
Ha! Although I don’t buy into the traditional Theory of Evolution, I do think that we humans experience SOME amount of evolving.

I think about this a lot. Not about us evolving but about viruses becoming immune so quickly. It’s really distressing and kinda makes you want to stay away from public places. Or maybe that’s just germaphobic me.

I think about it too - like being on a crowded train, or being forced to breathe the same recycled, canned air with everyone else on the airplane, or just being in a large crowd. Yikes.

The reason this is true is because the human being is an incredibly complex system of organs, cells and DNA. A virus is relatively simple and has a short lived life cycle - thus a virus can go through thousands of generations and build resistance much quicker! Any other questions? Hahaha
Sounds like you may know a little something about this subject, huh? ;)

Hey Teeni - What does it mean when it says that it’s an “auto post”?

Bush, an auto post is a previously written post that WordPress allows me to schedule to be published at a predetermined future date and time of my choice. I’m not sure if other blogging platforms have a way to do this but WordPress makes it very easy to do. It is one of the features I love about WordPress. :)

viruses scare the crap outta me. I sit and think how we are slowly getting immune to antibotics thru overuse and i get all scared about it….

    im a neuotic mess, i guess …

I don’t think you are neurotic at all. I think we all SHOULD think about this kind of thing every so often. Prevention seems easier than cure for so many things, you know?

You know what annoys me? When you have a cold you;re tired ALL the time right? And all you want to do is sleep?
Why is it that when you do get to sleep, it’s the crappiest sleep of your life. Surely if you’re that tired, and uncomfortable sleeping with a cold should be the best sleep of your life.

Yes, that really SHOULD be the best sleep. I don’t understand that myself. You would think that would be a good sleep. Hmm.

Know what’s scarier? M. got the same flu everyone else had when he was in Iraq. Two years later. How long had that virus been hanging around the Chuck E Cheese? Ick!

I know a Viet Nam Vet who got sick with a serious mysterious illness a couple years after his tour of duty and then again once more a few years later. Both times he rapidly lost weight and had flu like symptoms, etc. The doctors had no clue what was going on. Wonder what he was exposed to? Scary.

I think it has a lot to do with the types of foods that many of us eat. They don’t do anything to help our immune system in fact they hinder it; therefore, our bodies are susceptible to many of the ailments that are out there. If we change our inner roadmap and make whole food choices that not only taste good but are powerful immune boosters are bodies will become stronger.

I’ve seen miraculous things happen when people have changed the way they eat. Unfortunately with some people it’s too late. I could go on about this topic, health/nutrition is something I’m passionate about but I don’t want to sound like I’m preaching, lol. Ehh…probably too late for that.

LOL. You may have a point there. Hmm - are you using a new email or something? You seem to keep getting caught in my moderator. But fortunately, I found you! :)

    Good point Teeni!

Also how come we keep getting colds? Though if (as scientists say) each cold is a slightly different variation of the cold virus, how come we never get to the end of the darned things???

Thank goodness this doesn’t seem to happen with every other virus too!

You said it! Thank goodness for that!

I get over most of my illness-like things within a day or two.. I get over the horrible have-to-lay-in-bed-and-groan bit in a day usually.. sometimes rarely longer.. but not often.

    coincidentally I don’t do meds, and I can’t spell :)\

Wow - I haven’t heard from you in a while on here. I’ve missed you and your posts. I’m glad you don’t normally get sick for long. I would hate to see that. I think meds are only for if you REALLY need them. What? Can’t spell? Is this the same girl that just grajimatated from hi skewl? :D

Amen sister. And ever wonder why the effects of the antibiotics are often worse than the illness? Ugh.

Oh yeah. Medical stuff scares me to pieces. Lately they’ve been talking about measles on the news and encouraging parents to get vaccinations. I can certainly see why parents have been hesitant to do that though. So I don’t know which is worse. I know measles can be deadly but you would think with the proper medical assistance these days that a vaccination wouldn’t necessarily be required to survive it. I dunno. Another one of those things that gets you wondering.
