Tell Her What She’s Won, TGH!!

Posted on July 19, 2008 - Filed Under Contest

Okay, well TGH is busy right now playing a very important video game. So I’ll tell you what Calamity’s won.

It’s this lovely, embroidered teacup, hand made in the Azores! It’s not very big - about the size of a small coaster. As a matter of fact you could use it for a coaster if you’d like. But if, unlike me, you have some sewing skills, you could use them to attach this little cutie to a clothing item or home decor item of your choice.

embroidered tea cup

I just love the little teacup and thought it was so pertinent to this site and the Azores islands that I couldn’t resist using it as a prize in a contest here. I did get to see where these were being made, which was neat. And, due to a full bladder and having to ask to use the restroom, I even got to see the back room of the embroidery shop and got to see the women in back, hard at work ironing out the pieces! There were only two women back there (not a sweatshop by any means, well, except for the humidity and regular island temperatures, LOL) and they were very happy when I told them how much I liked their work. :)

Anyway, I hope this will give you many years of enjoyment, Calamity! Congratulations! I’ll try to post more pics and tell you more about our trip later this weekend.

Oh, how dainty and cute! I’m jealous.

Me too, actually - I wish I had gotten some more! :)

That tea cup would have looked lovely in my curio cabinet.

Oh wait…I don’t have a curio cabinet. Never mind. ;)

Yeah, I think that I’m glad Calamity won it Earl. I wouldn’t have wanted to insult you with such a dainty piece - although Gia might have liked it. But again, it was just a cute souvenir and it was handmade in the Azores so that is kinda cool.

My grandmother used to do fine embroidery like that. I can remember being very little and playing with her pots and pans on the floor and watching her work at embroidering napkins and other little things. It’s beautiful. I hope you got one for yourself.

TGH and I actually got a set of painted tiles for ourselves. They are actually known for their handpainted tiles there. But I’m not sure what we’re going to do with them or where they will go yet. I’m sure a possibility will turn up with all the renovating we do on our house. ;)

That is so sweet Teeni! No doubt she will love it!

Thanks, Hay. I hope she does. I’ll have to have a more manly prize for any future contests to make it up to the guys. LOL.

I don’t say this very often, but I wouldn’t have had a place for that.

So, what’s the manly prize I’m going to win? ;-)
Hmm. I really haven’t got a clue. What’s a good manly prize for a blog contest? Seriously, I’d like to know what you think but it can’t cost too much since I have no income of my own.

That is so cute. It would be so cute on a cardigan!

Oh sure it would! That’s another good idea for it. I wonder what she will do with it? I hope she’ll keep us posted!

I think that one of those would look good on a scrapbook page. Since I don’t do regular scrapbooking anymore just digital I think I would scan it and try to incorporate it into a layout. I can only imagine the other cool stuff at the embroidery shop besides teacups which by the way is really shabby chic cute.

Hi Michelle! Welcome to the Vaguetarian Tea Room! You know, this would really look nice on a scrapbook page. I didn’t even think of that! There were a LOT of neat things at the embroidery shop. We were only limited by price. LOL. Sure, it could be shabby chic. It all depends on what you do with it. ;)

this contest was rigged… i still think i should have won!

Rigged? You had three days to guess! There are only so many countries in the world! LOL. But you’re right. You should have won. But ya didn’t! :P LOL

What’s a good manly prize for a blog contest?

A tea cup doily made out of leather?

Actually, I did have a different souvenir if there had been a male winner. I’ll post about that later too. ;)

  21. odette (57 comments.) on July 21st, 2008 6:46 pm

    it’s beautiful, teeni!
and because it is handmade, i think it is extra special. :)

Thanks, Odette! Me too! :) Hugs to you!

Aw, Teens, what an adorable little teacup. Leave it to you to find such a thing. It must have taken quite a lot of skill to make such a gorgeous little thing. I really admire people with sewing skills since I can barely sew on a button. Just beautiful.
    Annie

Thanks, Annie! It really just seemed so appropriate. I could never had made one myself though. I can’t even stitch a straight line by hand. It’s tough for me even with a machine! LOL. But that is why they make these things for you, right? :)
