Just another WordPress weblog

Exclusive!!

Posted on July 21, 2008 - Filed Under Award

The next couple of posts will be password protected. They will contain the photos from my vacation. You can have the password if you are willing to do a little work.
A lot of people participated in the contest to guess where I went on vacation. They made it a lot of fun for everyone by participating so I’d like to give them some linky love. So to get the password, you will have to visit the sites of the top guessers (the ones who made the most guesses) to decode it. This may be easier if you get a piece of paper and a pencil. Ready?

NOTE:  THESE INSTRUCTIONS HAVE BEEN UPDATED THANKS TO SOME VALUABLE INSIGHT THAT DAN GAVE ME IN THE COMMENTS SECTION.  **boinks self in head and goes on to update the instructions so that everyone will have the same password, regardless of font**

  1. Okay, first go this post at Bug-Eyed Earl’s Blog. Go to the first paragraph and second sentence.  Take the 19th word. Write that down. In lower case.
  2. Next, go to this post at BirdPress’ blog. Go to the first paragraph and the second sentence.  From the fourth word, take the second through fourth letters. Add them to the ones in the previous step.
  3. Last, go to this post at Dan’s dcr blog. Go to the ninth paragraph, the third sentence, and the third word. Take the sixth letter and add it to the letters you got in the previous steps. There is your password! You will need it for the next couple of posts.

As for the people who wanted to know what prize would have been given if a male had won my contest, don’t worry. I had a nice little unisex souvenir that the hotel gave away for free! Check it out:

Bowl Cover

It’s a one-size-fits-all bowl cover! The hotel even had them all individually wrapped like party favors! LOL. Okay, just kidding. I don’t really know anybody who uses those dang shower caps so I steal them when I can to make sure the hotel isn’t re-using them. For the guys, I would have given this as a real prize:

rooster

It’s a little cock magnet! It’s about an inch and a half tall. That’s a magnetic rooster, not a body part! And the funny thing is that the Portuguese have a cute little legend about this fancy guy. He’s sold in different colors and sizes in many souvenir shops. He’s called the Cock of Barcelos which you can read about here if you have a minute. Cuz you know I’m all about the learning (so long as it’s not anything I really have to know and as long as it can be done in a relatively short time). LOL. Anyway, since it wasn’t a male who won the contest, this cock is going on my fridge. ;)

Ha! Love the cock, too funny and too cute. He’ll look fantastic on your fridge. And the shower caps, what a great idea! Now I’ll be stealing them too.

    :-)

    And the password, great idea!

Thanks, Kami! I think linky love is always a welcome reward. :)

“It’s a little cock magnet! It’s about an inch and a half tall. That’s a magnetic rooster, not a body part!”

    Thank you for clarifying. :P

LOL. Didn’t want to imply any insult to any of my male readers! ;)

I can only imagine what Slyde and b.e. earl are going to say about that rooster… Almost too bad earl didn’t win it… : )

I loved the password idea, hopefully I got all the letters right, do bullets count as paragraphs?

LOL. Um, yes, they are just indented paragraphs right? So yeah, I count them.

  4. Wendy (24 comments.) on July 21st, 2008 10:25 pm

Whew! Hope I did this right. :)

You’ll find out soon enough! If not, I’ll email you. ;)

Oh no, I can’t do this homework!! My computer screen automagically changed some setting so now all the fonts are bigger than normal. This happened a week ago and I can’t “undo” it. I’ve actually gotten used to it being bigger and it’s definitely easier on my eyes.
Anyway, it means that there are fewer words per line on my computer screen (for example, there are only 7 words on the 3rd line of that first post!!) so there is no way I will be able to find the password :-( :-(

I guess I will be missing out on your lovely vacation photos :-(

I’m not going to leave one of my best buds behind! I’m emailing the password to you! Sorry about the font thing. But I guess it’s good if it is easier on the eyes. I wish we knew how these things happened so we could do it when we wanted it and not have it happen randomly. LOL.

  6. Hannah (314 comments.) on July 21st, 2008 10:36 pm

Oh, forgot to say LOL at the shower cap!! ;-)

    Glad you liked it! :)

  7. B.E. Earl (46 comments.) on July 21st, 2008 10:56 pm

That’s okay, I’ve got a much bigger cock.

    Magnetic rooster.

    On my refrigerator, of course.

I can’t wait to find the Holy Grail by using Da Vinci’s Code!!! Fun, fun, fun!!!

    Of course. LOL.

i had fun with the password thing, and i hope i got it right. :)
and a what nice bit of trivia on the barcelos’ cock!

I love to sneak trivia in when I can. It’s fun. :)

    Hannah,

If it is large everywhere on your computer, try right clicking on your desktop, click Properties, choose Appearance and check the Font Size setting. If the text is just large in your browser, click on the View menu and check the Text Size setting.

  10. CuriousC at IdeaJump! (33 comments.) on July 22nd, 2008 6:36 am

Goodness Teeni! I thought at first that the prize for the guys was a condom! I thought - how strange the hotel has condoms to go with the other goodies in the room. I should have known better. I’m not sure WHERE my mind is…

Aaaah, CuriousC! You’ve been corrupted! LOL. But man, that would be one huge condom! **picks your mind up out of the gutter and hands it back to you** :)

i want to see the pictures, but if i have to go to Earl’s site to do it then i dont think its worth it for me. That site is just Painfull!

I will just say that the scenery pictures are breathtaking and worth it for you to have to pay B.E. Earl’s site a tiny visit. You won’t regret it. :)

  12. dcr (48 comments.) on July 22nd, 2008 9:55 am

Next, go to this post at BirdPress’ blog. Go to the second line and the eighth word. Take the second through fourth letters. Add them to the ones in the previous step.

There are only two letters in “to”.

Last, go to this post at Dan’s dcr blog. Go to the ninth paragraph, the third line, and the first word. Take the sixth letter and add it to the letters you got in the previous steps. There is your password! You will need it for the next couple of posts.

There are only two letters in “be.”

Thanks for the link love and this was a great idea, but the problem is that not everyone uses the same fonts, font size or screen size. Some commenters have mentioned font size, but there’s more to it than that. If you have a font specified, and the font is not available, a different font will be substituted. And, that different font will be whatever the user’s browser has set. Most people probably don’t change theirs, but it may not have the same spacing as whatever font is specified on a web page. And, if no font is specified, the browser’s default font will be used. That all affects spacing.

On top of that, some web sites use a fluid design, where the layout adjusts to fit the user’s window. And, even on fixed designs, you’ll still have the font issues mentioned above.

So, you cannot be certain that a word that you see on your screen will be in the same position on another person’s screen.

A more accurate way to do it would be to specify a paragraph and the nth word in that paragraph, rather than specifying the nth word on the nth line. Because, for example, no matter how the words adjust on the screen, the 10th word in the first paragraph will always be the same. (Unless the layout is really, really messed up!)

Oh, sure - go and get all technical on me. LOL. But I actually understood this and I appreciate your bringing it to my attention. I didn’t even consider the whole font thing. Sheesh. I don’t know why everyone can’t just have the same exact setup as I do and make my life easier after all. Hrrumph! ;) Just kidding. Okay, I’m gonna update those instructions for everyone right now! Thanks so much, Dan!

  13. MacBros (48 comments.) on July 22nd, 2008 11:58 am

LOL! I think if a person has a huge monitor and the settings on High Def’ things don’t work either.

After following your instructions I come up with: ‘reallyne!be’

LOL. I’m sorry! I really screwed that up! But I fixed it!! The instructions have been updated - check them out!

  14. DragonLady (19 comments.) on July 22nd, 2008 12:44 pm

ROFL! I am going to be laughing over the cock all day now. :D

Well, they are always saying to take pleasure in the little things, right?! ;)

  15. honeywine (35 comments.) on July 22nd, 2008 1:22 pm

DIAL UP WOMAN! Dial up! lol But I got it. At least, I hope I counted right.

Oh, I’m sorry about the dial up. I’m just trying to share linky love with the people who helped make the contest fun. We gotta get you making some money on that blog so you can upgrade! :) If you aren’t sure about the password, email it to me and I’ll let you know if you got it right.

  16. kaylee (317 comments.) on July 22nd, 2008 1:33 pm

I got it now what do o I have to do ?????

you will use it on the next post because that one will be password protected.

  17. kaylee (317 comments.) on July 22nd, 2008 1:34 pm

Ps i blame any typos on the baby I am holding ;)

Teach the baby to type! ;) Wow - you now have two tiny siblings, huh?

  18. birdpress (32 comments.) on July 22nd, 2008 1:44 pm

Cool; it’s like a treasure hunt! I hope I did it right. I have a tendency to screw up with stuff like this. It’s almost like math. Don’t ask me why, but it is.

I didn’t understand why everyone was getting all bent out of shape over the font size until I saw your replies and then read what dcr quoted. Now I can’t wait to try this password to see if it’s right!

I didn’t get it at first either. Thankfully, I have people like dcr’s Dan to help me out. Whew! And yeah, it’s like a treasure hunt. Fun! :) You can email me what you got and I’ll let you know if you have it right.

  19. kaylee (317 comments.) on July 22nd, 2008 2:07 pm

And is this paassword supposed to be a real word? Cause what I got was nothing like it! my computer screen is all messed up through! you can read it but not that well so who knows if, I did it rght.

email me what you have and I’ll let you know if it is right, ok?

  20. kaylee (317 comments.) on July 22nd, 2008 2:10 pm

Okay will do, and yes I do…they are invading my house noe at least they arent aliens. ;)

    LOL.

  21. Hannah (314 comments.) on July 22nd, 2008 2:41 pm

Thanks TGH for your help! I had tried the first solution already, but everything looked A-okay there. I have just tried the second (”If the text is just large in your browser, click on the View menu and check the Text Size setting”) and it seems to have fixed it! I actually didn’t know you could adjust text size there - but now I do!

And yay for Dan, suggesting those changes!

I agree whole-heartedly on the yay. I have some great men who visit my blog and I’m very thankful for them. I’m also very lucky to get to have one come home to me every day! :)

  22. joanharvest (45 comments.) on July 22nd, 2008 6:55 pm

Everyone needs a cock on their fridge. And I am referring to a rooster. My next door neighbors used to have roosters last year. No wonder I was depressed. They cock a doodle dood all day. I thought they just did it in the morning. Finally something killed them off. No, I did not cane them.

I’m glad I figured out the password it was well worth it.

I would have sent it by email to you if I knew you were having so much trouble! Anyway, you will use the same password for the next posts so you don’t have to decode another one! LOL.

  23. Bobby Revell (29 comments.) on July 23rd, 2008 10:36 pm

Whew…that was tough! I smashed my brand new lap top just trying to get through it…hahaha! Just kidding of course. Let’s see if I have the right password

    I emailed you! :)

  24. jen (3 comments.) on July 24th, 2008 8:19 pm

    wait a minute… some hotels REUSE shower caps? That’s gross… isn’t it?!

No, they don’t really! They are all individually wrapped and sealed. I was kidding. But I bet they don’t replace them if they weren’t used by the previous occupants. So I don’t know if that counts or not. LOL.

  25. The Poet Laura-eate (21 comments.) on July 25th, 2008 8:11 am

Hi Teeni, my, will I ever figure out how to leave a comment again now you’re all password-protected like that on your newer posts??

Just to let you know you’ve won an award @ mine.

    L x

Ooooh. I’m all over that! Running to your place! :)

  26. caryn (3 comments.) on July 29th, 2008 9:11 pm

hey, those are really cute. hehehehe. i take home the amenities too because i figure they’re part of the deal right? my mom loves to use them for overnight trips ;-)

Absolutely! You pay for them whether you use them or not, so I figure you should take them if you didn’t get to use them. Your mom is a smart cookie. :)

  27. mJ (3 comments.) on July 30th, 2008 6:31 pm

What a cool idea! I love this…I was one of those kids who ADORED scavenger hunts. The clues always made me warm and fuzzy inside.

Thanks mJ. I do sometimes have some good ideas. I just need a good idea on how to make money with my good ideas. That is one I haven’t had yet! LOL
