North End Treats Has Good Eats
Posted on August 12, 2008 - Filed Under Food, Products/Foods, Reviews
I recently visited a wonderful new eatery in Framingham, Massachusetts. It’s called North End Treats and is located right on Route 30. North End Treats offers another delicious food option if you are in the area. The interior is small and will have very limited seating but a patio is being built out front. At the moment, it is more of a takeout place.
We talked to one of the partners while we were there. Dan said he is learning the bakery end of the business from his partner, who runs Bova’s Bakery in the North End of Boston. When TGH and I visited, the shop had only been open for 8 weeks, and some of the baked goods were still being brought in. Disclaimer: I know Dan outside of this review but will treat this review as fairly as possible.
We did get some baked goods, but in an un-bloggerly-thinking move, I brought a bunch of different treats home to share with family. Although we loved our treats we didn’t get to taste as many of them as we would have liked (nor do I remember the names of the goodies we ate) to do a proper review. I would like to do that at another time (any excuse to go back for baked goods). So for the purpose of this review, I’m going to focus on the pizza. However, you can read what the person at this blog site had to say in the meantime regarding the baked goods. Note: I do NOT know this person I’ve linked to but it seems like a fair review. And here are a couple of pictures.
To reduce temptation, I left the pics of the bakery items small. You can click to make them bigger. Don’t say I didn’t try to protect you from those awful calories calling your name though.
TGH and I ordered pizzas off the menu. The brick oven below is where our pizzas were cooked. I love the way the copper and the stone face look together. Anyway, Dan is the one who personally stretched the pizza dough before our eyes and filled the pie with all the goodies as promised on the menu.
The picture below is my pizza. A piece is missing already because I could not wait to try it before snapping a photo, it smelled so amazing when it came out of that oven. And it stayed hot for a while. I have to say this is one of the most fantastic-tasting pizzas I’ve ever had. I never liked pizza growing up and didn’t eat it much. My tastes changed as I got older and I started to like it in my twenties. I tried lots of different styles of pizza because there were so many I didn’t like. This one was a perfect hit - nice tasting sauce (the kind that tantalizes your tongue just right), fresh cheese, and wonderful seasoning. I had the one with artichoke hearts - out of this world!
Normally, I wouldn’t be able to eat an entire small pizza in one sitting. And this was a normal sized small pizza. But it tasted so good that my tongue did not want to stop and I consumed the whole thing in one sitting. Seriously, I thought I was going to explode.
Even seeing this picture is reminding me of how good it tasted and I want to go back and get more. Right. Now.
The service at North End Treats was pretty good. They lost a point because TGH’s order was at first mis-heard and made as a sandwich. We had to wait for it to be made as a pizza. However, being such a new establishment, and having new employees in training as they did when we visited, I’m sure North End Treats was still working out some of the bugs. The glitch was remedied as quickly as possible and the partner personally made sure we were satisfied. They recovered well. But, to be honest, with pizza that tasted like that, we could easily have forgiven a whole host of mistakes. It seems to me that this place could go far and is certainly on the right track. The following little tidbit might also give some indication.
North End Treats is ironically located in a parking lot next door to a D’Angelo’s sandwich shop. As TGH and I sat in our car eating our pizzas, we watched several cars pull into the D’Angelo’s parking lot, and then we watched the occupants of those same cars walk instead over to North End Treats to get food, rather than D’Angelo’s. We laughed. I am willing to bet that that particular D’Angelo’s doesn’t last long in that location.
Congratulations, Dan, and thanks for the wonderful eats! Anyone else, give them a try if you are going to be in the neighborhood. You might want to call an order ahead as it appears they are getting really busy and popular here.

Can I email you? And yummy I want to go there!
Of course you can email me!
Sounds (and looks) delicious!!!
It was really good. I wonder what type of pizzas you have in NZ?
As a dedicated fan of NY pizza, I have to say that no matter how good that pizza looks I’m sure it’s purely second-class. Maybe third-class (after Chicago pizza).
If I want good chowder…Mass. is the state for me. But for pizza, strictly NY (and LI). No contest.
But glad that you liked it.
Ouch! I’ve had pizza I liked and didn’t like in both New York and in Mass. Haven’t tried Chicago’s yet, but maybe I’ll make a trip there sometime. I don’t like to generalize but I would be willing to bet that a pizza made in Italy (and preferably eaten there as well) is probably going to be the one I like best.
READ MY POST IF YOU DARE ABOUT NAKED FisH!
No. I’m afraid.
LOL
oh well, whatever that pizza is made of, wherever too, that definitely is a must-taste.
Every time I think about it, I want some more.
Oh lordy, I MISS Pizza bad. This almost made me cry!
Our pizza’s are pretty standard here, but what I notice on TV with American pizzas are that the slices are huge!
Oh, really? I guess that doesn’t surprise me seeing as how we have a tendency to supersize everything here. Sheesh. Sorry to tempt you so, Hay!
Hi Teeni! That pizza looks pretty good. Just so you know, I can eat an extra large thick crust pizza by myself in 10 minutes…LOL!
Wow - that is impressive. And making me hungry. Remind me not to go out and share a pizza with you! I have a feeling I’d be leaving there hungry. I never knew you were such a pizza piranha. LOL. I still can’t get over the fact that I didn’t like pizza growing up and that I like it so much now.
Looks great!
Thanks, VeggieGirl! I think I may have a vegan pizza recipe coming up soon. Thanks for reminding me!
Holy man that pizza looks amazing - don’t listen to Earl he doesn’t know anything about pizza! I’m putting this place on my list of to do’s!
LOL. He keeps me on my toes. You will have to stay down here for a month or so, so I can learn how to do some good reviews from you!
looks like good stuff.. alittle too far for me to sample, sadly …
Well, if you are ever going to be in my neighborhood, you let me know and I’ll remind you of the good places to go.
I’m always in search of the next best pizza, so if I’m ever in the area I’m gonna have to check them out.
Thank you for the review, Teeni.
I wish everyone could try this pizza, that’s how much I loved it. If you’re in the area, I’ll meet you there cuz I still have to review the baked goods.
You’re welcome for the review. I think I’m starting to enjoy the reviews and eating the food a little too much.
OMG! that Pizza looks awesome! And the goodies too!
I haven’t had a brick oven pizza in ages!
All the pizza shops here use electric ovens and they just don’t do the same thing.
Hmmm. Do they deliver up here?
Sorry, Mac - they don’t deliver up there yet, as far as I know. But if you’re ever down this way…let me know!
Before Weight Watchers Pizza was my main food. I ate it about 4 times a week. No wonder I got fat. I had to go by the photos really fast because I think I started to smell it. They will probably do well. Pizza lovers have a knack of searching out the best pizza places.
LOL. I have to laugh because I think it was TGH’s main source of nourishment when he was in college. Sorry for any temptation, but I do think you are right and that they will do well. I’m definitely going to be visiting there again if I can!
YUM! You’re makin’ me want pizza!
Hi MJ and welcome to the Vaguetarian Tea Room. If you’re in this area then you should definitely check out North End Treats for pizza. I know they also have grilled sandwiches but I didn’t even get that far. I couldn’t get past the delicious pizza.
And now I am haing pizza cravings… Thank god I didn’t click on the bakery pictures, my butt does not need that sort of temptation!!
LOL. I hear ya, Leaf! I think I made those pictures smaller in an effort to also protect myself.
Oh come on it isnt scary!
LOL. I actually already read it when I talked to you last night.
I wasn’t really THAT scared.
Pizza looks really delicious!
Nice review!
Thank you!
Now I want more pizza - dang!
There is just something about a brick oven that brings out the best in a pizza.
There really is, isn’t there? What a difference! Also, now when I make it at home, I have to use the pizza stone. It just makes it better. But yeah, nothing beats brick oven. Nothing.
Yu might be with my replies
Going to check it out!
Oh surrre….I love how you put the “small pics” of the baked goods to seem all noble like you’re protecting our cravings, but then throw in that we can click ‘em to make’em bigger!!!
You little rascal
LOL. Well, I thought some of you might like to see the pastries.
I owe you and my friend Peter Parker some blog visits. I was just waiting for a bigger block of time so I’ll be by soon! Hope you are well! Hugs to you!
You had me at bakery…
LOL.
Your Pizza lokoed really nice tenni. Got me to thinking about pizza’s and how the ingredients don’t generally differ but the quality of pizzas do.
I wonder how they are all the same but all so very different.
I quess pizza are like humans then eh! Hehe!!
Morning Tenni
Di
Hi Di, I wonder about that stuff too. I don’t know the answer but maybe it lies in the amounts of ingredients and spices in the recipes. I know that I love to have a good tomato sauce on my pizza. If the sauce isn’t good then I don’t like the pizza.
Oh that pizza looks so good. I have suffered from bad pizza syndrome for all the years I’ve lived in California - they just don’t make good pizza. In the midwest, you can’t swing a dead cat without finding 10 amazing pizza places - here, it’s a vast wasteland. Oh…I so want some of that pizza. Dang, girl that’s just cruel.
Annie
Oh, Annie! I had no idea! I hope you know I would never intentionally torture you that way. Well, you know, unless it forces you to come out this way. Cuz then I WOULD do it on purpose to get you to come here and then we could go out for pizza together!
So yeah, I guess I could be mean like that.
mmmm, I am drooling over that pizza, it looks fantastic! If the pizza was that good I am betting the baked goods were pretty spectacular too!
A trip back seems like the only thing to do so you can try out more of those pastries too
Yeah, see? Sometimes having to go back is a GOOD thing. LOL.
For as healthy as I try to eat, pizza is one of my BIGGEST temptations. I have been to Bova’s a few times and it has always been super busy. I used to have relatives that owned an egg store in the North End for all your egg needs. This post is making me too hungry!
p.s. Where I live now really needs a kick in the backside to get its pizza act into gear. There are only 2 good places in town!
Oh, I wish I knew someone with an egg store! I’d feel better knowing where they are coming from. I would send you some of this pizza if I could but it wouldn’t be doing it justice if you didn’t experience it hot out of the oven. And I apologize for the temptation - but you know when you find something you really like and you just want to share it with all your friends? Just chalk it up to that.
Damn.
How I love pizza.
Jonesing it now . . .
Have to settle for my Italian meatloaf tonight.
:0(
Awesomely delicious review.
~m
Mmm- italian meatloaf does not sound too shabby either. Most things Italian get my attention - at least when it comes to food, LOL.
Just have to disagree with your review - I’ve had the unfortunate circumstance of dealing with North End Treats several times (ordering for work) Today was the limit for me - after I placed the order I had to call back to add an item. The man I spoke with was downright rude. This isn’t the first time that an order was incorrect - several times something was missing or prepared incorrectly. Working out the kinks is one thing and understandable, however rudeness is unacceptable. If I spoke to a customer in that fashion I would be out of a job.
I’m sorry your experience was not good. I can see how large work orders sometimes get confused or incorrect. Heck, that happens to places that have been in business a long time, especially when things get added to orders. But you are totally right that rudeness is unacceptable. I do know that some of the help there has been unsatisfactory and that they are working on it. However, I still think the food there is awesome and I didn’t experience any rudeness there myself. I will go back, but you are entitled to your opinion and I don’t mind showing it here as it seems fair. Thanks for stopping in.
Did I ever tell you that I drove by this over Columbus Day wkend and started screaming, ‘That’s the place Teeni blogged about!!!!!!!!’ My hub was not catching any of my enthusiasm nor did we stop but I thought of you. It was a very exciting moment for me.
No, you didn’t tell me but if you do drive by again in the future - definitely stop in. They got good reviews from the Phantom Gourmet as well, so it’s not just MY say so!
Also, I love seeing things referenced by my buddies on the blogs - it makes me feel like I’ve brushed with celebrity or something. LOL.
YOU are a celebrity to me. I mean, I celebrate you, so that’s the same thing…
You are too sweet and make me laugh at the same time. I can’t help loving you, Curious!
