Mother of All Cupcakes

Posted By Teeni on November 25, 2008

Didn’t I just get through saying I don’t like a lot of shaped pans?  Yeah, I know.  But this one is different because a giant cupcake can be used for many different occasions.  I’ve pictured it here with a banana so you can see/judge the size properly.

cake 4-1

This cake was made in a sort of rush so I didn’t take the time to decorate it as carefully as I should have.  I was just too dang excited about having a giant cupcake!  Who wouldn’t be, right?  This took about a cake mix and a half to fill. Now that I look at it, I probably should have used M&Ms as sprinkles.

cake 4-2

I had my neighbor do the actual cutting as I soon realized it would be no small feat to accomplish since it is such an odd sized and shaped cake.  I didn’t want to be the one to blame if it collapsed.  MMM - look at that banana cream filling just oozing out of there.  The filling was easily made using a banana blended with instant vanilla pudding but if you have more time you could get fancier or lazier and just use banana flavored instant pudding - d’oh.  But I do like to have a couple of healthy elements in my cakes so I went with a real banana.  Yeah, I know - that made it real healthy.  LOL.

cake 4-3

Anyway, just thought I’d share.  Enjoy!  And wipe that drool off the screen before anyone notices!  LOL

I still have a lot of practice to do before I could ever do this kind of stuff - check it out and torture your sweet tooth a bit more.  They are amazing!

looks like my signature may not be working.  In that case:

Hugs,

All topped off with a nice cold Bud Light I see. :P

That video has a lot of Marzipan. I don’t care much for that stuff.

The Bud was my neighbor’s. I don’t drink much beer - but when I do, it’s the good stuff! LOL. I don’t care for marzipan or fondant much either, actually. I probably won’t get into that stuff as much. I am stubborn in my old age and refuse to work on things I don’t myself like. Life is too short, ya know? ;)

I don’t dig on dessert, but damn! That is one huge cupcake!

LOL. Oh, I’ll have your piece, then! ;) And yeah, see if I made just the top part it might actually make a great boob cake! Can you see it? ;)

  3. Paige Stanton (100 comments.) says:

I want it. I want it right now. It looks so delicious!

    Thanks, Paige! :)

  4. Ginger Magnolia (37 comments.) says:

Yum, yum, yum, cakes, delicious CAKES(and beer, blech)!

    Now I want some sweets…

Yeah, I don’t know what my neighbor was thinking - beer doesn’t really go with cake.

  5. honeywine (94 comments.) says:

    OOOOHHHHH…that looks soooo goooood!!!!! Mmm…

Thank you! It was tasty. I think I enjoy pairing the fillings with the cakes. :)

  6. witchypoo (176 comments.) says:

I’m totally cake deprived lately. Stop taunting me.

LOL. I would send you some but it would be stale by the time it got there. Sorry. ;)

Thank you Kaylee. I can’t help posting treats. It’s the season.

    wowsers -
    you are right -
    that is one h-u-g-e cupcake!
    delish X

LOL. Yup - it’s big! Can’t say I didn’t warn you! ;) It tasted good and that is really all that matters but the size really was kind of impressive.

  9. Kaylee (456 comments.) says:

I know I am just kidding you!

    Gotcha! ;)

  10. Evyl (120 comments.) says:

Now that is my kinda cupcake!!!

    LOL! Yep, definitely Evyl-sized! :)

You are just killing me here, Teeni. If I don’t cheat and get a piece of cake in me soon I am going to lose it!

I am still jealous about the roses :)

I have never even seen a cupcake pan that big. Holy crap! I can just imagine asking someone if they would like a cupcake and then coming out with that!

LOL - that is a good joke to play on someone! I may have to try that!

  12. iamthediva (126 comments.) says:

mmmmmm, i wish you lived closer so you could bring over that ginormous cupcake of deliciousness.

I wish I did too! I definitely need more people to help me eat all that cake in the giant cupcake! Man was that big.

  13. Kami (355 comments.) says:

I am so glad you put the banana there for perspective, that is a one big cupcake but what a fantastic idea.

    Mmmm, drooling over here!

Oh and isn’t cake all on it’s own healthy?

I mean it’s good for the soul anyway….

    ;-)

Ooh - yeah, “good for the soul.” Definitely! I’m going with that. :) Thanks, Kami!

  14. Hannah (420 comments.) says:

Yum! That looks awesome, Teeni! I do like the idea of a giant cupcake pan.

Everytime I visit your blog, I start wanting CAKE! :-)

Thanks, Hannah! I hope to stop torturing you with the goodies soon.

  15. sheng (57 comments.) says:

I love that cupcake, looks like a big cake.

Thank you, Sheng! It IS a big cake - it says it feeds 16 people! Since I didn’t have that many people I had to eat more than my share. Oh the things I do. ;)

  16. Beth Ellen (223 comments.) says:

Wow..I didn’t even know pans like this existed! Chaela would love something like this. :o)

LOL. I bet she would - it is a fun pan. She’d need a lot of help eating a cake that came out of that pan though. Feeds 16! Zoinks.

  17. caryn (5 comments.) says:

huwaw! that is one big CUP! i love how you decorated it teeni! it looks fab! ;-) how many people ate it?

I had five people, two who we sliced off “seconds” for and left at their house. Then TGH and I were stuck eating the rest of it for a couple days. So I learned not to make that particular cake again unless we have more people!

  18. dcr (157 comments.) says:

Looks great but what really grabbed my attention was the fancy plate. ;-)

LOL. That was actually a gift to me from a German family. Don’t tell Michelle Gartner though - I am pretty sure it is vintage as it is an OLD plate.

  19. Michelle Gartner (53 comments.) says:

In the video there was a cake that was done for a gardener- i thought that was so neat… are you talking vintage on here??? I thought the giant cupcake lured me over, now I know it was just the talk of vintage junk!

Happy Thanksgiving all… nyuk nyuk nyuk!

LOL. Hi, Michelle! That cake was one of my favorites too. It hardly even looked like a cake! The only vintage over here is me and that plate under my giant cupcake. I swear. I’m not cutting into your niche! ;) A very happy holiday to you too!

  20. Peter Parkour (115 comments.) says:

Wow. I’ve never seen a giant cupcake before. That’s pretty cool. The only thing cooler would be to have a midget stripper pop out of it. :P Now that would be cool. Midget stripper or not, I want a giant cupcake for my next birthday cake.

LOL. I think I need to find a bigger cupcake pan to accommodate your midget stripper. But thank you for thinking it’s cool. :)

  21. Karen (25 comments.) says:

I would like mine with lemon curd.

That’s what I used in my rose cake and it was fabulous! But there are so many combinations for me yet to try that I can’t pick a favorite filling yet! Oh, or were you just placing your order? LOL. ;)

    Mother of all cupcakes????
Holy icing Batman, that looks like the mother AND father!

HaHA! Yes, the mother AND father! I like that. :)

    Ooh, Shrek-sized cupcakes! I want!

This cupcake needs a Shrek-sized crowd to help you eat it! ;)

  24. MJ (53 comments.) says:

    YUM!!!!!

    WAAAAAAAANT!!!

Hehee! Sorry, MJ! I ate the whole thing! Okay, I had help actually. ;)

  25. Jeanny (25 comments.) says:

    Yum…
Thats a huge cupcake. I wish I have that kind of pan so I can make one. hahaha

I have the metal pan but I think they are making versions of this pan in that flexible, rubbery silicone. So maybe they will be less expensive.

  26. anja (33 comments.) says:

Oh my stars. I want that so badly.

Sorry to tease you but I’m glad you like the looks of it! :) Thank you!

  27. kelly (15 comments.) says:

OK - I see I’m not the first to see teh beer can in the back - but I’m laughing….. it looks like massive amount of cake offset by a diet beer!!!!! (Although I’m guessing “lite” beer really = low alcohol, right?)

I didn’t even realize that was in the background when I took the picture! LOL. It’s actually my neighbor’s beer. He’s 83 so I guess if he thinks beer and cake go together I won’t bother arguing with him. I don’t know what “lite” beer means - I THINK it is lower in calories. Probably lower in alcohol too. I probably drink not even six beers a year but I refuse to drink a “lite” as they taste watered down to me. I would rather have a full flavored imported beer. But NOT with cake!

    MY
    GOSH

Cupcakes are the ultimate happy tool, and i think you’ve hit the motherload with that.

    mmmmm

Ultimate happy tool? That is a fabulous description! :)

  29. Hay (45 comments.) says:

Yikes! That is queen of the cupcakes!! And the video…the dogs in the basket, the handbags, those cakes are ART, not food. How could ya eat them?
(Yeah, I hate marzipan, fondant too, ick)

I agree - those are definitely art. Also, I don’t like that marzipan/fondant stuff either. It makes pretty cakes but bleccch - who wants to eat it? LOL. Okay, sorry - I know there are people who like it. And I will gladly save any I get for them. :)

  30. joanharvest (44 comments.) says:

I don’t want to know how many weight watcher points a piece of that is. But it sure looks good!!

It’s probably a trillion WW points, now that I think about it. I don’t want to think about it because I must have eaten most of them.

  31. Bobby Revell (74 comments.) says:

That looks delicious Teeni! I bet I could eat the entire cupcake in two minutes flat…lol!

LOL. You probably could and if you couldn’t then don’t worry! I’d help! ;)

    Hmm, a bucketcake? I LIKE!

It’s definitely bucket-sized! It’s a diabetic coma disguised as a cupcake, really.

  34. Jim (10 comments.) says:

Wow! I just stopped by after my usual visit to Evyl’s site and this cup cake is awesome. I want that same cake pan. The guys at work would get a kick out of me bringing in a cup cake that big.

Hi Jim - Welcome to the Vaguetarian Tea Room. That Evyl is something, isn’t he? Gotta love him! As for my giant cupcake pan - the one I have is a big metal one that bakes the cake in two pieces that you put together afterwards. But since I got this one, I have seen that they now have those rubbery silicone ones for sale that make a giant cupcake that looks just like this one. I would imagine those are actually less expensive and easier to store so keep your eyes open for one!

Oh Lawdy Teens, you know I’m going through a cake phase right now, are you trying to kill me?

This looks amazing. I watched the video too- This whole cake creating is serious stuff! Blew my doors off, good job!

Sorry to tempt you, JQ! It’s all just part of learning for me. I may have to start decorating cardboard cakes so I don’t feel the need to eat my lessons! I don’t need the extra sugar and calories myself!

  36. Natalie (59 comments.) says:

that is one big cupcake. my friend elaine made it for her little guy’s first birthday and then my sister made it for my nephew’s first birthday. too much fun! and aren’t you so clever adding filling! yummy!!!

seriously, i may have to bake a cake today. bad for my diet but i bet it will make my cold kids very excited!!!

That is why I thought this shaped cake pan was one shaped pan I wouldn’t mind having. A giant cupcake can celebrate many different things - birthdays, anniversaries, special occasions, whatever. So it was worth it for this one! There are many low fat cake options out there though so I hope you can find one that is acceptable.

  37. odette (68 comments.) says:

wow teeni, that looks really really good!!! it must have tasted so good too i suppose! i still get the feeling that i can shove it right to my mouth, being the giant cupcake won’t sink in just yet. :D

It was yummy - but it was also a LOT of cake! LOL

  38. Jess says:

    WOW!!! It looks yummy!
How long do you bake that for???

Hi Jess. Welcome to the Vaguetarian Tea Room. That cupcake had to bake for about 50 minutes at 325 degrees Fahrenheit. But it was worth the wait. :)
