No, It Couldn’t Be - It IS - It’s Turkey Cake!
Posted By Teeni on December 2, 2008
Yes, it’s true - I made turkey cakes. These are “mini” cakes because they are only about four inches in diameter. I used white cake mix and cut each into two layers. I used chocolate ice cream topping syrup as the filling. It was yummy! Sweet - but yummy! I didn’t even bother smoothing the icing on these before I decorated which was too bad because I was in a rush (seems like I always am when making cakes) but I think it would have made them look a lot nicer.
Other lessons learned:
- Turkey bodies look a lot like a tamarind pod or a poop before they are decorated to look like turkeys
- I should have made the turkey tail feathers come in a lot tighter to the body of the turkey
- I should have piped out more frosting before making the tail feathers because it just started coming out dual-colored on the last row but should have been all throughout the tail. You can start to see on the turkey on the right that the color is lighter on the bottom.
Other than that, I thought these were really cute.
Here’s a closer look.
See those eyes? Do you recognize them? Well, you SHOULD! Those are rice crispy cereal grains used for the eyes with a tiny dollop of icing for the pupils! See? If you didn’t know what to do with the leftover rice crispy cereal after making a rice crispy dude, then you now know a good way to use up four of them! They make great turkey cake eyes! LOL.
Now that you’ve seen my quick and dirty version, here is link to a much better one which was the inspiration for mine.

Ooooh, delicious looking! They are so detailed, Teeni. I love them.
Love the idea for the eyes
I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving.
Thank you Diane! We did have a nice quiet, peaceful Thanksgiving with hubby’s family.
You are so creative. They are cute.
Thanks, Karen. I almost felt guilty eating them because they were cute. Almost.
Im going to try to put all my comments in one comment this time. Here you go with the food again. Now, I am hungry When I start baking again I am so going to show off my skills. They are better than yours.
Sorry, Had to throw that in there. You know me I like to take those jabs at you
but, anyway why are you so critical of yourself? Those are fabulous Turkey cakes. AND I mean that.
Well, we’ll just have to see about whether your skills are better than mine or not. I take that as a challenge. So get better and start baking already!
You’re turning into one cool pastry baker… way too cool! Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you, Sheng! We did have a lovely holiday.
These are so cute! You amaze me with your creative talent!
Thanks, Hannah! These ones were fun but made a mess out of my kitchen with all the color mixing (you know, because it wasn’t MY fault).
LOL! The body looks like a turd.
I know, I know. *shrugs* LOL
Quite interesting and innovative.
Hello Anamika and welcome to the Vaguetarian Tea Room! Thank you for the compliments. I just peeked at your site and viewed all the beautiful cakes you have made. I am not even close to your talent but I still like to play with my food! You have great skills in cake decorating and also in photography. Thank you for stopping in and come by anytime.
I like yours better than the one in the link you provided even though the body looks like a terd. I think this is my favourite cake that you’ve made so far!
Wow! Thank you!
Gobble! I only have eyes for you. Great job girl!
Thank you!
yet another way to eat turkey. i think i like this turkey best.
Why yes, I’ll have turkey for dinner AND for dessert, thank you very much! LOL.
Those are so cute, I don’t normally like turkey but I would make an exception for those. They look tasty.
They were yummy little gobblers! I’m surprised you don’t like turkey - most omnivores seem to. Anyway, I’ll be by to visit your site soon. I’m very behind.
What a great way to have turkey on the Thanksgiving table without harming any! Very cute, too.
That’s right - no real turkeys were harmed in the eating of THESE turkeys.
Thanks, Hannah!
Those are fantastic! Love them!
Thanks, Kami. I thought you guys might enjoy seeing them.
I like that too. The thought of having your Turkey on the table without harming any. Brilliant!
LOL. Yup - this way everyone can have a little turkey.
So terribly cute!!!
Thank you Hay - now you can steal this idea and make a vegan turkey cake for your next feast!
Wow, Teeni! That is fantastic. Really. You have learned cake decorating so quickly. You should be very proud of yourself.
So, are you thinking of a new home business?
LOL. Oh, you flatterer! I know I’m no way near good enough to make money at cake decorating. But it’s fun to think about. Maybe if I keep practicing though.
Bring on the challenge
After Christmas
Get yourself better and then get baking!
Cute! You are getting good at this decorating thing! Will you make me a groundhog cake for my birthday? (You could eat it for me too.)
LOL. I’ve never heard a request for a groundhog cake! Are you a Groundhog’s Day baby? I bet that would make a cute cake though! Hmmm.
I hope they don’t have real turkey in them.
That would be soooo wrong.
~m
Nope, no real turkey in the cake. That’s what PIE is for! LOL.
I hate to mention it but I do believe it’s giblets are showing.
LOL. Heehee! You know - I realized that what was missing on the video of the turkey cake that I linked to was the red wattle thing so I made sure my turkeys had “wattles.” Now if I only knew how to make giblets.
They look yummy! I’m here via Debohobo.com.
Hi Gran! Glad to have you at the Vaguetarian Tea Room. Debo is awesome, isn’t she? Thanks for the kind words about my little turkeys. They did end up being yummy!
Very nice cakes Teeni! Do they contain creamed turkey meat? LOL!!!!
Yuck. Nope. When I want something with guts and goo, I go to Revellian dot com!
Did you say “turd-key” or “turkey”?
Looks like “a poop”. You are so funny.
Cute for your first turkeys. I’m sure the next flock with look much less poo like.
LOL. Thanks, Peter! I hope so!
CAKE. ME WANTS CAKE IN ME CAKE HOLE - you’re killing me.
But, in a good way. These are so cute!!!!
Hehee. Sorry!!!! But thanks!
your getting really really good! Hope I could learn to decorate cakes.
Oh have you tried fondant? I wanted to try (for the first time) decorating cake with fondant this coming Christmas.
I have not tried fondant yet. That would be a different class. I love how it looks but I don’t really particularly like fondant! LOL. I may take the class anyway just so I can be more flexible. I hope you will take pictures of your cake decorating for Christmas! We’d love to see!
Well I am not much into cake design and stuff but those are rather lovely. But I think I would struggle to eat them if they stared at me like that!!
LOL. They do have rather “puppy-dog” -ish eyes considering they are turkeys!
Shoulda, coulda, woulda. Either way, those are really cute!
I know, I know. I’m not really being down on myself, but I am just trying to honestly note some areas of improvement that I could stand to work on. Thanks though - I thought they were a bit cute myself. And yummy.
Teeni, those are freaking adorable! I can’t believe how cute those are. I could never do that.
Oh, I’m sure you could do better than what I could do! But thanks!
These look totally fun! Bet they were yummy too.
Thanks, Kelly! They were fun to eat!
I have to echo Mac. I am cracking up at the turd body. LOL
Okay, okay - I should rename them turd-keys!
They’re so adorable that i could eat them all! You’re very creative.
Thank you, Dyosa! Welcome to the Vaguetarian Tea Room. The good thing is that they were small cakes so having a piece of one really wasn’t too terrible for my waistline!
wow! very good. i am impressed. i may get on google right now and find something festive to decorate since i am planning to do some baking to warm my house!!!!!!
Oh, baking is the best way to make a house smell and feel all homey and cozy.
The turkey looks like he’s saying, “Um, whattadya think you’re doin wit dat knife?”
Yeah, that’s what he said right before he said, “Ouch!” Muhahahaha!
ROFLMAO @ “turd-keys”
Yup - it’s official. Everyone I spoke to said the turkey bodies resembled Mr. Hankie so I have to go with it I guess.
Holly Gobble Gobble these are really cute and creative cakes lady!!!!!
LOL. Thanks, Debo! I thought they were cute too. But it didn’t stop me from eating them!
LOL Teeni! Sorry that I haven’t been visiting the way one should with one’s blogging buddies!
I see that you have been VERY creative as usual!
By the way, I was a bit tired of wrestling with my Meez and the site, so have given her a vacation…
Hi Merri! You have been missed! I’ve been slow in my visits too so don’t feel too bad. I’m hoping to get caught up soon.
I hear you about the Meez site. I think they have a horrible search system and they still haven’t come through in making the animations longer but they HAVE come through in adding many items that cost Coinz! I’m not ecstatic with them right now myself.
Oh my gosh Teeni. Those are 500% adorable! AH!!! I love them! You are totally rocking at making cakes!
They really aren’t so good as far as technical cake decorating, but they are kinda cute. Thanks for liking them!
