Four Things Meme and a Speedy Meme

Posted By Teeni on January 1, 2009

My friend the Bead Den tagged me with this four things meme.  I’m slow in getting to it but I blame all that on holidays and such nonsense.  ;)

Hopefully she forgives me.  If she still even remembers my name!

If you don’t know the BeadDen, let me just tell you that nobody decks out for Christmas like she does (check out her posts all through December) so if you like pretty, sparkly things or just holidays in general, give her a gander.    And while you are there, you will get the chance to meet a very smart, talented blogger.  Okay, here goes!

4 places I go over and over:

(1) Lately, the library!

(2) Grocery store.

(3) Post office.

(4) My niece’s house.

4 people who e-mail me regularly:

(1) My niece.

(2) My neighbor across the street.

(3) A woman I used to knit with.

(4) Three women I used to work with.

4 of my favorite places to eat:

(1) Home - cheaper, healthier, less unknown ingredients!

(2) The sub shop down in the center of town.  I like that it is in walking distance so we can walk there in good weather and I can get a nice raw veggie sub in a yummy pita pocket.

(3) The Longhorn Steak House

(4) The Weathervane - seafood.  Every so often I crave some fried fish for some reason.  Or maybe it’s the french fries I crave?  ;)

4 places you’d rather be NOW:

(1) Back in the Azores!

(2) Someplace tropical, in a hammock, holding a fruity drink with an umbrella in my hand.

(3) In the opposite hemisphere, visiting some of my blog buddies and enjoying their warm weather.  I know they would be happy to share, right?  :)

(4) In a Bubble Bouncer - these are so much fun!

4 TV shows I could watch over and over:

(1) That 70’s Show.
(2) The old series, Soap - Richard Mulligan was awesome when he thought he was invisible.  Does anyone else remember this?

(3) The Carol Burnett Show (Shut up!)
(4) Sonny & Cher (No really - Shut UP!)  ;)

4 movies I could watch over and over:

(1) Forest Gump

(2) The Princess Bride

(3) E.T.

(4) Raiders of the Lost Ark

4 people I hope will respond:

Well, I totally took way too long getting this one done so I’m not going to tag because I’m not sure if everyone has done this one or not.  But I do hope some of you will take it on if you haven’t done so already.  You know I love reading these things for some weird reason.  ;)

Okay, here’s the next meme (I still owe a couple of others and I haven’t forgotten them yet so don’t worry - I am just way behind):

This one is from Speedcat Hollydale, the lovable lunatic who breezes through every so often when he isn’t busy doing “plastic surgery,” playing golf, photoshopping himself into picures, and most recently, showing off his sexy crooning voice!  If you have not visited Speedy’s place in Hollydale, you really need to - it’s like a Cirque de Soleil for the blogging mind.  Silly, talented, funny, serious - it’s the whole gamut and a lot of fun.

Anyway, the rules are:

Take a picture of yourself right NOW!
DON’T change your clothes, DON’T fix your hair… Just take a picture.
Post that picture with NO editing.
Post these instruction with your picture.

Well, I broke the rules.  First, I would never post a photo in which I wasn’t prepared with makeup and being a little gussied up.  After all, I don’t want to scare you all away, sheesh.  And I still have some self-image issues so it would be too hard for me to just go raw like that (I’m working on it though and I hope this post is proof).  Also, I did some photo editing, but it was to edit out the baby I was holding in the picture because I don’t have time to ask for permission to post it, and I did soften the edges in the oval frame.  But that is all the editing I did and it IS a recent photo.  So at least, I’m honest anyway.  :)

Now, I usually don’t tag everyone, but in this case, I’d like to tag anyone who is brave enough to do this one themselves.  I’d love to “meet” you if I haven’t already and if I have seen you, I’d love to see you again!  Consider it a challenge!  :)   If you want to see me, click on the “more” link.

HI EVERYONE!  Happy 2009 to you all!

    Wonderful meme and photo!!

    Happy New Year!!

Thanks, VeggieGirl! And a very wonderful new year to you! I hope it brings even more wonderful things for you than even last year! :)

  3. Ginger Magnolia (37 comments.) says:

You look like a lady named Minnie who was my mom’s friend! Weird!!! At least now I have a face to put to your name, nice to “see” you, Teeni!

Haha! Minnie and Teeni look alike. That’s cuz we both have “small” names! ;) But I’m cuter! LOL!

  4. maleesha (7 comments.) says:

I watched Forrest Gump today, actually! I could watch that one over and over too. Happy New Year!

That movie is just so much fun to watch and truly, Tom Hanks did such a great job with it. I never get bored with it. Well, also the fact that my heartthrob, Gary Sinise is in it helps too! I love me some Lieutenant Dan! MMMMmmmm - ice cream! LOL.

  5. Eric "Speedcat Hollydale" (124 comments.) says:

First off … KUDOS for even finding this tag. I had to laugh a bit when you found the tag I did for “YOU” while searching my blog.

When I was tagged with this meme, it was pretty easy. My shyness is NOT evident to often. Ha haaaa!!!! When I first started blogging, my picture never showed up. Somewhere, somehow, things changed pretty drastically.

YOU are just how I imagined. Pretty, with a warm smile, and truthful eyes. Some people just have that look - you know … they have kindness inside of them that emits as they glance at you.
COOL way to post this Teeni! I clicked, and there you were :-)

So, I am relatively new here. Was this the first photo of you??

Thanks for playing along. Please know that my tags are very informal, and I never really expect anyone to do memes - or “MEEMs”.
    he heee ;-)

    I’m glad you did though.

    BIG hugs from Hollydale !!!!!!!!!!

I hope I am someday as comfortable as you are with posting your image - I love the fun you have with all the photoshopping and stuff. Of course, my first project would be to transplant my head onto a tall, thin, sexy, runway model body. LOL. Just kidding. I think that would be too boring. I want to do more interesting things than that.

That actually is not the first photo of myself that is on the blog. I have a couple others that are not out in the open but they are not exactly hidden either. If you wanna see, I’ll send you the links to the posts. Nothing exciting, although I do like the one of my wedding pics. The fact that you are so low-pressure about the whole meme thing made me want to do it more, actually. Because you made me feel accepted, no matter how I responded to the tag, I just thought that by doing it, I would be showing you how much that meant to me. So very big hugs right back at you, friend! :) :) :)

  6. thebeadden (86 comments.) says:

Thanks for doing the meme, Teeni! I know the holidays have made it hard to keep up with all the blogging to - do’s.

Just want to let you know the steakhouse link isn’t working. And that I am glad I don’t eat lobster. I almost fainted when I saw the price.

The bubble bouncer sounds like fun! And Carol! Wasn’t that show just hilarious? I loved it!
The Princess Bride was a great movie and ET

Oh my Goodness! It is so great to ’see’ you!
You do look fabulous! I just couldn’t post a photo on-line. So, I’ll opt out of this one.
    I might e-mail you one though. ;)

It is so nice to put a face to the name. Very cool! :)

Oh, thanks for letting me know about the link - I will fix that right away. LOL. I didn’t een look at the price of the food while I was doing the links. Now I will have to go check but yeah, lobster always seems to be outrageous. I am not a big fan of it and think it’s not worth all the trouble and money. But that’s just me.

And yes, please DO send me a photo of you! I would absolutely LOVE to see you!! It’s like adding another layer to our growing friendship! :)

  7. Eric "Speedcat Hollydale" (124 comments.) says:

Sure … Lets see the wedding photo!!!

I sent you some links in an email! :)

  8. B.E. Earl (84 comments.) says:

I love “Soap” and “The Carol Burnett Show”. Richard Mulligan was hilarious during that invisibility story arc.

YAY! I knew YOU would appreciate those, Earl! Thanks! :) :) :)

  9. dcr (157 comments.) says:

Wow. You really did post your picture. I was expecting another one of those back of the head shots. ;-)

The library? I don’t think I’ve gone to the library since I had Internet access. It’s probably a good thing too, because they’re closing the local library. Well, actually, they’re expanding it, but they’re moving it at the same time. So the one that’s within walking distance of my house (though it’s a long walk and driving is preferably since it’s a busy road) will be closing and the new one will be in the middle of what the politicians want to be the center of town. They say it’s more centralized, but it will be about a fifteen minute drive (in light traffic) for everyone on this side of town.

Actually, the library in the next city would be slightly closer and have fewer traffic stops, so that might end up being more convenient for people that live in this area.

I sent you an email too! I love the library. I’m not a pro on how to use it to my advantage but I love the fact that it is a free resource available to the town. Many libraries work together and have linked systems so I don’t see why you couldn’t just use the one closest to you.

  10. witchypoo (176 comments.) says:

There’s kindness in them thar eyes. And some sassy in that mouth. Love it.
Of course I remember Soap, and all the ones you named. I’m older than dirt. And my Grammie is older than toilet paper.

LOL! It’s always awesome to see your comments. You are really gonna be giving old Knudsen some competition you know! Thanks about the kindness and yeah, I think you are right about the sassiness too. ;) I admit it.

  11. dcr (157 comments.) says:

    Wow. That was fast!

You know, I’m just glad you don’t actually look like your Meez. That would be frightening!

I think our library and the library in the next city/county are part of two different systems.

But, I really haven’t used the library in a long time. Even before I had Internet access, I don’t think I’d used it that much. Back in the eighties, they added a computerized card catalog, which was poorly done. You’d go through screen after screen of stuff to find something (they apparently didn’t trust people with keyboards, so everything was touch-screen) only to find that the book that you were interested in wasn’t available. They could bring it in from another branch, but if I was at the library it’s because I needed something then, and didn’t want to wait! So, then you’d have to start all over and look for another book.

Well, after a little bit of that, you just went to the reliable card catalog, which was faster than the computer.

I think I went to the library once in the nineties. They had the same computer system, but the card catalog was gone. So, the only options for finding a book were the computer system or going up and down the aisles. You’ve probably guessed that going up and down the aisles was faster.

I’d hope that they’d have a better system by now, but I’m not sure I’d bet on it. At any rate, between the Internet and my own book collection, I haven’t needed the library at all.

LOL. I was right here at my laptop when you commented - watching a very bad movie on tv so I am not paying much attention to it. It is Balls of Fury - a supposed funny movie about ping-pong. I love playing ping pong so I thought I would like it but so far, bad movie.

Some people think I DO look like my Meez. I did try to model her after myself but there was no short, fat, slant-eyed option. ;) They want everyone to look like skinny little anime characters.

Anyway, I think the computers at the library now are MUCH better and much faster than going up and down the aisles. Since I’m not working on research papers for school anymore, I don’t mind too much if I have to wait a couple of days for a book. There are so many to read that there is always something to read in the meantime. Sounds like you have a large personal collection yourself though.

Eeeeeeee! You are so stinkin’ adorable!! I just want to grab you and hug you!

Happy New Year to you, Teeni!

    And…Sonny and Cher…YEAH! I got you babe!

Oh my gosh, do you think I could pepper this with any more exclamation points? Ha!

LOL! Well, THAT made me as happy as a pig in mud! No, you can never have too! many! exclamation! points! or happy faces for that matter! I love ‘em! :) Heehee! I love taking joy in those crazy little things. And I’m still smiling from your comment! Thanks, 2LD! You can hug me any time!

  13. Debo Hobo (72 comments.) says:

Forrest Gump is one of my favs as well!!!

OMG you are so cute too! Did you get a chance to go out at all for the New Year celebrations?

I just went to my niece’s house and we had takeout Chinese food and then played a couple of board games. We left there around 1:00 a.m. I had two drinks - LOL. I’m such a party animal. Actually, I’m not a big drinker - alcoholism runs in the family so I usually limit myself to two and only drink on occasion. Besides it’s too easy for me to make a fool out of myself without the alcohol! LOL. One year I did go out for First Night with a cousin into Boston. Boy I will never do that again. Some people love that stuff. Not me - I don’t think it is normal for people to be outside in such frigid temperatures late at night. I was miserable and shivering the whole time. LOL.

  14. Debo Hobo (72 comments.) says:

Um….run there is a boulder chasing you!!!!

Yikes! Maybe I should just let it catch up to me and it can give me a quick treatment to make me thin. LOL!

  15. javajunkee (61 comments.) says:

Carol Burnett was one of the funniest shows on tv EVER! I loved her characters of the cleaning lady and the old shuffle lady that was always getting hurt and the famous Muhis-ah Wiggins! There was just a special on PBS about that show…Tim Conway and Harvy Korman were talking about how hard it was for all of them to work together and not just bust up laughing.

and Soap..my favorite was the old guy who thought he was still in the war. Oh my gosh that show was a riot.

beautiful picture….and uh yeah no pictures of me without makeup. :)

I LOVED when she was the secretary! LOL! Oh yeah - I could never have been on that set with all of them together - that would have been incontinent city with all the laughing till I peed myself. Did you ever see the one wear they are doing a Gone with the Wind skit and Carol comes down the stairs with the curtain dress and someone compliments her and she just says, “Oh this old thing? It was just something I saw in the window?” Holy crap.

Now that I think of it Soap had a lot of great characters - Billy Crystal was on it and so was Katherine Helmond and Robert Guillaume! Oh my gosh. The writing was great. These are the kinds of shows I miss and why I am not such a big fan of reality television.

I hear you about the makeup. Are there any pics of you at your blog? I’d love to “meet” ya! :)

  16. Talina (118 comments.) says:

I am so taking you up on the photo meme!

Awesome! I look forward to seeing you! :)

  17. [...] Oh I am so taking Teeni up on the speedy meme she posted today: [...]

  18. javajunkee (61 comments.) says:

and this is another reason why we go on amazon and buy the old tv show dvd’s. I’ve got Barney Miller, Welcome Back Kotter…newer stuff like Rosanne…we don’t get tv. We have rabbit ears and fell for one of those convertor boxes..yeah they suck and don’t work for squat! So we basically get snow snow snow and PBS. And then some digital snow which is just enhanced snow. What a joke…but anyhow it’s fine cuz from what I hear I’m not missing nothing by not having cable or dish or any of that other garb.

I don’t have any pictures up on my blog. I really don’t like putting my face up on there. If I had your email I could send you a short little video of me talking to Joan about dumbasses and crackpots. I took it one day while I was bored waiting for the kids to come out of art class. Since then though I’ve chopped my hair off and my son says I look like I’m sporting a “butch” haircut. Like whatever. I like it! So I gotta beat the girls off now as well as the guys..just have to carry a bigger stick (read a whole lot of sarcasm into that)!I think I’ve got your email..I’ll check and send that to you if I do.

Oooh, Barney Miller was funny and I liked Welcome Back Kotter too. Oh, now all these great shows are coming back to me! You know, you really AREN’T missing anything as far as the cable and dish go, plus you are saving a lot of money and not wasting as much time as those of us who do have the giant, magnetic, brain-scrambling distraction boxes in our homes. ;)

I hear you about putting your face on the blog. I totally understand that. I got your email (LOVED it) and sent you one back! :) Oh, and forgot to tell you, I did watch those youtubes about the talking doll - too funny! I couldn’t find the part three for it but I saw enough with the first two parts to see how creepy that doll was!

  19. Hannah (420 comments.) says:

You are so beautiful, Teeni. Inside AND out. And I’m so glad you’re my friend. As for your comment about wanting to come down here and share our summer, of course you are welcome! :-)

Forrest Gump and The Princess Bride are 2 of my favourite movies as well. I think I know one reason as to why you like Forrest Gump so much … a certain Lieutentant Dan, perhaps? ;-)

See? I knew you’d be happy to share! :) And you know ME all too well too. Mmmmm. Lietenant Dan. :) Heehee.

  20. JavaQueen (122 comments.) says:

Teeni, you are so B-E-AUtiful!!!!! I wasn’t expecting that, because you wrote it like you weren’t going to add a pic, and then WHOOP there it is! I love it. It’s so nice to put a face with the name. I’m at work. Just took a pic of myself at 3am and am going to go post it- eesh! No makeup here, that’s fo sho- usually I get to work with wet hair too- LOL!

    Thank you for sharing!

Aw, thanks JQ! I just had to warn you all before I posted it so you wouldn’t break your monitors! LOL. Oooh - I got to go see your photo now! I know I’ve already seen some of you, but I like seeing all my buds too! :)

  21. CuriousC IdeaJump! (66 comments.) says:

YOU DID IT! scary, huh? It’s OK, you’re among friends…

Yes, it’s always scary, but thanks so much for reminding me of that. It really was a wonderful thing to say and just perfect! You made my day! :)

  22. Em (15 comments.) says:

beautiful, as always :) Im proud of you for doing that one! Even if you did cheat a little bit ;)

Thanks, Em - nice to meet ya! LOL - Yeah, I’m a cheater but an honest one? At least I admitted it. LOL!

  23. Slyde (128 comments.) says:

oh my god, i love Soap!

    my favorite tv line ever…

“Did you hear? He was shot in the temple!”

“I didnt even know he was jewish!”

Soap was freaking awesome. Such great writing. I really miss shows like that. :)

  24. Michelle Gartner (109 comments.) says:

Oh yeah I remember SOAP- you should do a guest post on that show. I remember it was so weird and funny and Billy Crystal and Robert Guillame were on it… hee hee.

Oh you are so pretty- Happy New Year to you Teeni!

LOL. thanks for saying that, Michelle! I will have to send you a check! ;) Oh yeah, Soap was a riot! When I first watched it, I was a bit freaked by the opening music and the narration and stuff but after watching it and getting to know the characters a bit, I was hooked and used to beg to stay up to watch it! I will think about writing a guest post and send it to you sometime - if you like it, you can use it. :)

  25. MJ (53 comments.) says:

    Love your hair! So cute!

Aw, thanks MJ! I am really not happy with my hair but I am looking into some wigs. The thyroid meds I am on keep making my hair fall out so even though I’ve already been bald from the chemo, now I get to deal with thinning hair again. I will admit that short hair is so much easier to take care of though. :)

  26. meleah rebeccah (21 comments.) says:

    GREAT ANSWERS!!

Happy New Year to you and your family!!

Thanks Meleah! Happy New Year to you and yours as well! Feel free to steal the meme if you would like to complete it. :)

I love the photo of you! We so rarely get the pleasure of seeing your beautiful smiling face, thanks so much for sharing :)

Aw, thanks Kami! Feel free to steal a meme! :) And the happiest of new years to you and yours! :) I’m so thankful for all my good blog buds in the last years!

  29. katie (19 comments.) says:

oh so lovely to finally *see* you -
love the hair - that is the new hair, right?
    happy new year
    mwah X

You are so sweet, Katie! Thanks! It’s the hair that grew in after the chemo and I keep it short because it is very fine (it seems to have a bit of curl if I keep it short too). I’m thinking of returning to a wig though. The thyroid meds make my hair fall out and I just don’t want to worry about it anymore. I’d rather just put on a wig, get over myself, and move on with my life.

  30. joanharvest (26 comments.) says:

I can attest that this is the real Teeni because I have met her and she is just as beautiful, sweet and perky in real life. Thanks for posting that wonderful photo of you. My daughter and I love “The princess Bride”. The song “Storybook Love” from that movie is what my daughter played for her wedding song. Oh, and I love your hair!!

You are too kind! :) Thanks so much Joan! (Psst - Where should I send the check to? LOL)

Aww, that is so sweet about your daughter’s wedding song! Love it! Thanks again about the hair. Maybe I’ll do an update shot when I get my new wig.

  31. Merri (41 comments.) says:

I TOO am so thrilled to finally “see” you Teeni!
You do look like I thought you would; cute, mischievous, kind and with a killer sense of humour!!
    Yay!
    Thanks for sharing with us!
Oh and I ADORED Carol and the game.
YES remember Harvey Korman was ALWAYS breaking up laughing??
    YES Missus uh Whhhigaans?lol!
My other fav was the one where Tim was a dentist???
I never saw Soap but wish I had!
Other shows I wish would come back are WKRP in Cincinnati and Taxi…
    :)

Wow - I was just thinking of WKRP in Cincinnati the other day - loved that show and Taxi was also one of my favorites. It even made my dad laugh! :) Harvey Korman was such a great part of Carol’s gang but it was tough for even him to keep a straight face with the likes of Tim Conway around! Remember the elephant sketch? OMG! Snork. I bet a lot of these shows are available on Hulu - I just checked and some of them are! :) Thanks for the kind words Merri. I wonder if you will take up the challenge and post a pic of yourself? I’d love to see you! :)

  32. birdpress (114 comments.) says:

I’ve seen the other ones you posted, but this is the first close up of you I think. You still look just like I picture you though - pretty and cute at the same time, and kind-looking. Funny how some people just look like nice people! (I don’t have that look.)

Are you kidding me? You definitely don’t see yourself as others do I guess. I see a beautiful young lady who is kind and super intelligent when I look at you. I’m glad you commented tonight because I was just wondering where you had been! :)

  33. Evyl (120 comments.) says:

That Longhorn Ribeye sounds crazee tastee.

I wish you and yours a year of peace, love and laughter ..thanks for your friendship!

    Lila

Hi Lila! Thanks so much for the kind words and wishes. I’m not as active on Flickr as I am on my blog but I will definitely catch up to you one way or another! LOL. I hope that 2009 brings nothing but good things to you and yours! :)

    You had me at Steakhouse.

LOL. I’ve never been a big steak person but only TGH and that steakhouse have been able to make steaks that I like. And since I don’t eat them often, I like them to be the good stuff when I do eat them.

  39. Sama-lama-ding-dong (15 comments.) says:

I never did like ET *shrugs*

    Teeni . . you’re so cute :)
I, however, DID post a “raw” picture as you put it.

Whoa! I’m SO glad to see you! You have been missed. Welcome back, my friend. I hope we will see more of you but on whatever terms work for you! **rushes over to see what you’ve done**

I’m thinking of returning to a wig though…. I’d rather just put on a wig, get over myself, and move on with my life.

you know, i think i’d get a wig too - cos i am so used to my hair being long and thick and i am rather in love with it lol. and it’s “me”, you know?
big huge love and kisses to you -
you are very inspiring and i feel incredibly special to know you teeni X

You are incredibly sweet and I’m so glad to have gotten to know you through blogging too. :) I understand about the hair totally. I never had great hair to begin with - it was always thin and baby fine. I don’t think they make many wigs that way though. LOL. So I guess I’ll get myself some of the good stuff. ;)
